How do I convince my wife's boyfriend that he's wrong for enjoying Path of Exile?

    Posted: 25 Jul 2021 06:32 AM PDT

For the past two days every time I walk by my bedroom and see him in there playing reaper summoner I get absolutely livid. I cannot believe he would betray this household like this.

Sometimes I'd step in and say something like "H-hey Kieth, um, you know this league will have the worst player retention right?"

And hed always say something fucking stupid like "That's okay champ, go back to your room me and your wife need to have an important talk"

One time I tried to redditpill him again and said "H-hey Kieth the patch notes were uhh really disappointing, um don't you wanna stop because um the games so slow now, how will you do delirium encounters?"

Now get this Reddit. He had the AUDACITY to say "I didn't read the patch notes, if I can't do delirium that's fine, maybe I'll focus on delve this league"

I immediately ran out of the room sobbing, I sat at my desk and threw my chicken tenders all over the floor in disgust.

I just don't get it reddit. I'm at my wits end at this point. I cannot fathom how someone could enjoy the current state of the game. I've already tagged the developers at least 13 times in my Reddit comment manifestos do you think I should start tagging him as well? I don't even know if he checks Reddit.

Hey Chris Wilson, you know when I'm having fun?

    Posted: 25 Jul 2021 03:16 AM PDT

When I'm coming home from a long day at work and I'm blasting a whole screen of mobs, then zoom on to blast another screen of mobs, and so on. The mindless farming and satisfactory blowing up of mobs really helps me unwind.

You know when I'm NOT having fun?

When I get perma frost from mobs in a tier 1 map.

When I have to click on a shitload of new shards in this new league, that then proceed to clot up my inventory space (for which we still don't have a "rearrange automatically" button.

When I die to corrupted blood even though I used a staunching flask.

When I can't even use a life flask because the flask charges have been nerfed to oblivion.

When movement skills have been so nerfed I feel compelled to play Raider so that I don't feel like a slug.

When the game that's supposed to relax me causes me more stress and anxiety.

Seriously, you butchered what I liked about the game. I've been playing this game for 7 years and it's the first time I actually considered quitting.

    GGG fixing player retention

    Posted: 25 Jul 2021 10:51 AM PDT

90% of Contents that you made are Contents that force us to zoom zoom.

    Posted: 25 Jul 2021 04:19 AM PDT

Im fine with balancing around clear speed. Then just remove old contents. At least remove timer. Pls stop forcing us to do two things They are incompatible with each other.

Slow Speed isn't stress. "Stop Speed meta!!" "btw, you need clear Speed to complete our contents" ↑THIS IS STRESS

Utility flasks paradox, when to use them ?

    Posted: 25 Jul 2021 08:03 AM PDT

Don't forget, It's okay to move on.

    Posted: 25 Jul 2021 06:04 AM PDT

Short and to the point. If this current iteration of the game is no longer enjoyable or fun, it is okay to move on to other things. If this is the hill GGG is willing to die on, let them.

You are not obligated to drudge through the mud and sacrifice your time. If you are not having fun, let them know by not spending your time on the game.

If your having fun in 3.15 then good for you

    Posted: 25 Jul 2021 07:39 AM PDT

Lots of hate going around and I myself have personally uninstalled but for those that are enjoying the new league I'm happy you are. Too much hate being flown around and counter arguments of "You're bad lol" so if your someone that is just sitting back, chilling and vibing you keep having fun.

Edit: It's really sad that I make a post about encouraging to have fun and for some reason people decide to drag in the rest of the sub's negativity into this post. No one needs to see you complaining about people complaining. As far as I'm concerned it's just more people complaining.

I didn't think PoE would remind me that I'm fat, slow, and have a drinking problem.

I'm just sad the game i fell in love with is no longer available

    Posted: 25 Jul 2021 02:28 AM PDT

I understand not everyone wanted things to stay the same, but these changes are not for me. Campaign was a chore but i kept telling myself that it will get better. It didn't, i got to red maps and quit, i just don't have fun playing anymore. I had fun when POE was slow in 2013, but i just cant forget how it felt previous leagues now. I realize that it's their vision with upcoming POE 2 and these changes are inevitable, but i'll always remember my 8 years with fond memories.

    Annoying isn't synonymous for difficult

    Posted: 25 Jul 2021 12:57 AM PDT

I'll start off by saying that I'm fine with nerfing player damage and even more so I'm ok with making the game more challenging(not for newer players tho, for them it was hard enough already as I couldn't intro PoE to like 10 friends of mine even tho I did put a lot of effort).

The game can be more challenging via introductions of various mechanics for instance, that would take time for people to research and beat, whereas now with changes to player mobility, flasks & mana multiplier, the game is not challenging/hard, it's just way more annoying, tedious and significantly less fun(even tho I still enjoy it cuz I skipped ultimatum and am fresh for poe).

Chris, are the seniors in GGG too busy with poe 2 or is this league the kind of stuff to expect in it as well?

    Posted: 25 Jul 2021 01:34 AM PDT

The last few leagues the balance and tweaks/nerfs and lack of qol makes it look like the game is currently being run by interns with out any significant testing or.

Every league the game becomes less and less fun. Dont get me wrong, you can still make grinding fun, and you should, because the only reason we play games is to have fun. Its in the phrase "play" games.

    But this ain't it chief.

To me the game is dead. You made a gamble that your wide sweeping changes would be good for the game without thinking or asking why we play.

People are leaving in droves. My whole guild didnt even log in this league, and between us all we have easily spent over ten thousand dollars on mtx.

Like others have said, you should have done even a little of the longstanding qol requested by the community at the same time of the sweeping nerfs.

The worst part is, I agree with the damage nerfs. Its everything else thats the problem.

Look at the game when people try play HC without logout macro. Look at the mathil bet. You cant smash the players damage and mobility and leave monsters in the stupid state that they are.

Look at the almost monthly threads asking you to fix trade and your tone deaf ignorance of what we all want.

Give us something like player shops from star wars galaxies.

Fix all the easy scams in the game. Hilight six links. Show currency totals in trade window. Im a very senior software dev so I know this shit is easy.

Cmon man, we want to play. We tell you what we want. Try some of the community suggestions in a new league and pull it back out if it doesnt work. If it does work? Holy shit, free game design and keep it in.

But instead you sat in secret and compiled the worst league ever and told us its what the game needed and everyone left.

I don't know if you ever played star wars galaxies but this smells like NGE to me.

Its ok to let us have fun. Its ok to be wrong too.

Its better to be wrong about giving us too much rather than taking away too much.

Sorry for the rant, Im just pissed because my favourite game is now a boring rip fest.

Ill wait for the "we're sorry" league before playing again.

Chris said he want to do less clicks on Poe....

    Posted: 25 Jul 2021 06:01 AM PDT

And you know what they did? Make an entire league based on multiple clicks with: Ton of new shards, clicks on every TNT, Tons of new chest to clicks on top of the rest.

    3.15 Currency Experience

    Posted: 25 Jul 2021 05:01 AM PDT

I feel like a lot of players are waiting on GGG to make a response to all the feedback and if the response isn't reverting some changes this league that's when player numbers will really tank.

    Posted: 25 Jul 2021 02:38 AM PDT

I feel like a lot of people still have hope that GGG will quickly make an update to revert many of the changes even though the chances of that are astronomically low.

POE's unique niche IS its fast paced, crazy gameplay. People play it over other ARPGs for that reason, among others.

    Posted: 25 Jul 2021 10:12 AM PDT

The game has evolved over time to be fast. More damage, timers on encounters to enforce "go fast or get nothing" gameplay, crazy builds like cast on crit and autobombers letting you clear whole screens as you walk...

People play POE for that reason, it's why the game went from paltry indie game numbers to pulling 150k players. POE is "that crazy ARPG with a huge amount of customization where you can make a insane character that one-shots eldritch gods".

This sort of "slow, tactical, difficult gameplay" exists in other ARPGs. Grim dawn as an example. Divinity: Original Sin as another.

People want to chill playing this game. They want the sort of "turn brain off and wipe maps" gameplay.

Instead of pulling the game speed down and making things more tedious, lean into it. Speed the game up. Add more crazy ways to scale your character. Add bosses with HP in the billions, that even meta min-maxed fuckin 124million DPS builds would struggle to quickly kill. Optimize the game to handle huge numbers of damage and enemies (ask other devs! Plenty of devs have made games designed to handle crazy amounts of moving/acting things - Factorio for example!) and focus on what makes the game fun.

I remember playing a pestilent strike pathfinder a few leagues ago. One of the best parts of the build was killing something and watching the poison proliferate and kill more things in a chain reaction. Or my first time playing tectonic slam chieftain. Spam warcries, activate flasks, and right click to wipe screen.

THAT'S what I play POE for. Satisfying reactions and interactions, and crazy explosions in a sandbox. A sandbox, that's how I see the game. I don't want artificial difficulty and tedium. If I wanted a slow methodical RPG I'd play Grim dawn or Wolcen or whatever other RPGs are on the market.
