My Notes from Baeclast #75 - Some weekend reading for those catching up.

    Posted: 13 Aug 2021 01:08 PM PDT

    Hello, everyone!

I'll preface this by saying that I really, really enjoy taking notes. Any time there's a developer guest appearance on Baeclast, I always do one of these breakdowns for myself. Rather than just leave it in some unnamed google document to rot, I figured I would post it up. I've done my best to summarize all of the major talking points and have taken some liberty in clarifying the more technical questions/answers into plain language.

I know there have been other summaries and I'm a bit late to post this, but I'm hoping this will help some of you connect to the information and feel informed, especially if you cannot dedicate the time to listening to the 3.5 hour episode due to work, family, or otherwise.

    Thanks for reading!

I think this sub should have and apply 'false' and 'misleading' tags to posts where people straight up miss-quote Chris and GGG (Or even other people/streamers).

    Posted: 13 Aug 2021 12:54 AM PDT

I have seen this a lot in the past and a lot more now that we had Baeclast and will have more podcasts with Chris.

People create posts completely based on something false or using hyperbole to make their point. And then other people who didn't saw the podcast eat it like it is facts.

A lot of subs use those tags and I think it would really help.

A perfect example: https://www.reddit.com/r/pathofexile/comments/p2ua1u/the_message_is_clear_harvest_was_a_mistake_and/ (I wrote something similar in the replies but might as well create a thread)

Chris specifically said that he knows players want some type of Deterministic crafting and that there is a place for it in the game, just not in the form of or as powerful as harvest.

OP in that thread says: ' The message is clear: Harvest was a mistake and determinism is dead '

I think this kind of post spread misinformation and feed the flames basically while completely wrong.

So if the mods could apply a 'misinformation' kind of flag/tag to the post that would greatly help the discussion.

I think discussion IS important be it for or against GGG, don't get me wrong. I just think that it would be a better place if we based our discussion on real facts rather than distorting things GGG or even streamers say to further your own point.

    Thank you in advance!

[All Bow skill Test] New support gem "Focuses Ballista support"

    Posted: 13 Aug 2021 12:39 PM PDT

Void Sphere should be able to consume a Power Charge to bypass the cooldown

    Posted: 13 Aug 2021 08:05 AM PDT

There is Flicker Strike for Frenzy Charges, there is Vigilant Strike for Endurance Charges, Void Sphere seems just perfect for Power Charges. The change would make the spell more usable as a main skill. It looks cool. It fits the Chaos/Power Charge Occultist/Assassin archetype. Everything is already there. It would be a shame for it to be left out as yet another support skill.

You are misinterpreting GGG's internal documentation

    Posted: 13 Aug 2021 02:11 AM PDT

During the Baeclast podcast, Chris mentioned and literally read out things from their internal documentation. While I applaud this transparency, and while he jokingly said "I'll probably get in trouble for this", he well... will probably get in trouble for this.

Here's the thing, the internal documentation (like issue tracker, feature suggestions, discussion topics, etc) is meant to be a collection of feedback, ideas and thoughts for the team to work on. The contents are meant to be discussed and decided upon, and many things might be changed, discarded or postponed.

My issue is that I watched and read some reactions to the changes they are considering, and some people claiming "this and this will come in a future patch to Path of Exile". And while I do hope most of the changes will make it into PoE because they sound great, don't go and expect all these things to make it into PoE in the way they were described. Be aware that they are ideas and suggestions, things they have to try, experiment with, test, and iterate upon.

This is potentially another instance of GGG mismanaging players' expectations. Maybe they will point this out somewhere in the podcast summary post next Monday? I hope they do.

Suggestion: Bind all uniques to certain bosses.

    Posted: 13 Aug 2021 09:47 AM PDT

Before the s-storm starts, they should also drop randomly from every mob as usual.

But with the difference that all bosses in the game have a bit higher chance to drop specific uniques (I talk here about 1-3%, depends the map tier)....Means white = 1%, yellow = 2%, red = 3%.
On Awakener 9 the droprate at red maps would rise to 5% (Maybe via a own Awakener Atlas Passive skill).

F.e. Kaom's heart has a higher drop chance from "The infernal king" at caldera map.

This way people can chase for specific uniques they need for a build and esp for SSF this would be less frustrating if you're searching for the 1 build defining unique bcs you know that there's a place where you can grind for it.

Ofc the best/most expensive uniques in game are bound to the hardest bosses on highest difficulty (As some of them are anyway).

But would be rly nice if we could have this kind of "chase" for all uniques, even for the "cheaper ones".

The 3.15.1 Patch Notes Preview stated "We are removing the 'Silence' curse from Hexfont." How come this didn't make it to the live realm?

    Posted: 13 Aug 2021 01:05 PM PDT

This patch note line does not appear to be in the actual 3.15.1 patch notes.

I'm still getting constantly silenced by Hexfont monsters, and Necromancers.

I'm adding more text here because apparently this post was flagged as low effort the first two times I posted it and needed more text. Please remove Silence as a curse effect from Hexfont monsters at a minimum.

    Wanted: Cooldown Recovery Support Gem

    Posted: 12 Aug 2021 10:45 PM PDT

Second Wind died for smoke mine's sins.

tl;dr: Please add a support gem which does not grant additional uses, but instead grants Increased Cooldown Recovery Rate.

The loss of cooldown recovery rate (CRR) from Second Wind -- with no suitable alternative -- compounded other key pain points this update, namely loss of effective defenses and loss of movement speed.

Guard skills serve as a baseline defensive layer which nearly all builds can incorporate. But, they are held back by their effective uptime. Losing CRR increases the number of shields-down moments in which people get one-shot. This compounds the loss of fortify effect and flask defenses, making it even harder to get suitable defenses on a character.

Other movement skills were said to be in a good place before this update. And yet, they were indirectly nerfed via the loss of CRR. This compounds the loss of speed caused by adrenaline flask nerfs and flame dash / smoke mine nerfs, making it feel even worse to switch off of top movement skills.

Additionally, other skills with cooldowns, such as warcries, brand recall, sigil of power, and void sphere, all feel much better to use when scaling CRR.

PS: If there are concerns about supporting flame dash and smoke mine with this new gem, a potential solution would be the line "Can't support skills which store multiple uses."

Thanks for reading, and Stay Sane, Exile.

    Result of 8000 Gwenn rerolls

People keep calling this community toxic, but frankly, majority of people are expressing their opinions about the game in a polite manner giving constructive criticism

    Posted: 12 Aug 2021 09:12 PM PDT

It is frankly quite annoying to see the word "toxic" being thrown so easily. I skimmed through a lot of comments in the past few days. Specifically sorted by "controversial" and even those comments aren't really bad.

What is more, most of the commenters write the REASONS why they don't like certain aspects of the game, rather than saying "I hate it" and leaving it at that. In fact, a lot of commenters write paragraphs justifying their opinion. And I think it's great, because they love this game and they don't want it ruined for THEM.

Can we get a UI setting to visually prioritize enemy effects over our own? It could be a simple prioritization (which only prioritizes the key things of an effect) as on picture #1 or a thorough coverage such as on picture #2

I build characters based on how they can circumvent mechanics

    Posted: 13 Aug 2021 02:43 PM PDT

I've played POE for a quite a few years now, and I've always built characters based on how they can get over 1 mechanic or more.

E.g. I dont wanna worry about mana, so i build a blood magic/trigger spells/mana build.
I dont wanna worry about flask management, so i choose a pathfinder and just piano flasks all the way.
I want to play a RF character, so i prioritise my life regen so i never have to worry about me killing myself.
I hate proximity bubbles, so i play a DOT character like vortex/cold snap.
I dont want to worry about curses, so i play a soul mantle totem build
I'm feeling lazy so i build a minion character so i dont have to read.

Thats how i've played all along, but these days the game makes me feel like this way of playing is a cardinal sin. Is it the "correct way" to face all of these mechanics head on? The day i stop playing the game is when im being forced to react to every single mechanic that the game dishes out at random and at any possible time.

Path Of Exile could benefit greatly from a Survey System like Genshin Impact

    Posted: 12 Aug 2021 05:29 PM PDT

Especially given all the recent posts after the Chris interview its clear that players priorities & what they view as fun/engaging differ wildly. This is where a survey system like Genshin Impacts could help show the overall player bases feelings on different topics. If your not aware Genshin has a survey every now and again In Game. Where they give a few in game currency in return for feedback on recent updates and game design. This would be a great way to gage players interests in addition to in game metrics.

At the moment it seems decisions are made solely on metrics which causes conflict on many topics. Eg the divide between GGG & people's view on harvest and the view of the top 1% vs average player. Whilst this wont solve everything it would give a overall view of peoples thoughts. You could also split this into SSF, Trade league ect and post the breakdown of the results in this subreddit with some dev notes. This would also make the player feel like their contributing to the games development creating a better dev/player relationship.

What are everyone else's thoughts on something like this?

How about new gem tag - BUFF?! Onslaught, Fortify, some totems, golems, etc. A lot of people may not know/remember many gems that provide global buffs to a character. This is quite helpful for new as well as advanced players

Eye of Winter- Increased Frequency Enchant

    Posted: 13 Aug 2021 02:19 PM PDT

Does anyone know how this functions? Does it make the spell shoot the same amount of projectiles, but just faster, thus reaching its end explosion sooner? Does it keep its same duration but increases frequency, thus adding additional projectiles fired during travel? After using it for a bit, I can't really visually see a difference with it, and I'm not sure what it is even doing and if it's worth using VS the 40% damage.
