3.16 SSF Cold DoT: Better than 3.15

    Posted: 11 Oct 2021 06:58 AM PDT

Had a lot of fun on stream Thursday and Sunday working on a potential 3.16 Cold DoT update.

Disclaimer: We're still missing a ton of 3.16 info, especially the updated skill tree.

Here's where we're at currently with 3.16 SSF (and HC viable) Cold DoT: https://pastebin.com/KH4KFk6G

We're likely get even better when we get a passive tree update. Also, the new Divine Shield keystone is pre-broken. We might be borderline immortal.

    Quick summary

    Losses from 3:15:

    • 7% DPS

    • ES total is lower (addressed below in EHP)

    Gains from 3.15:

    • Elemental Ailment Immunity

    • Elemental Reflect Immunity

    • Higher block chance (looking to cap without GB after 3.16 tree reveal)

    • 2.5-3x the EHP against Physical Damage

    • ~20% more EHP against Elemental Damage

    • 0 reliance on SSF clusters or uniques other than the super common Rime Gaze

I'm really happy with the current proposed version, and as always, my SSF PoBs include extremely achievable items. We ended the stream last night by crafting Armour/ES items to be sure they weren't difficult, and both Saintly Chainmails took exactly 1 Dense fossil to closely replicate my PoB version.

Looking forward to 3.16! Thanks for reading <3

EDIT 1: To clarify on some PoB details: I added some custom mods to simulate new item modifiers and Tempest Shield and raised/lowered gem levels and support gem quality to simulate the updated gems as best I could. I'm assuming (and hoping) that Tempest Shield will get 15% spell block.

EDIT 2: As /u/hesh582 pointed out, I was finally able to find a source for Juggernaut's node not including block damage; I'd seen conflicting reports but had issues verifying. It looks like block won't count for the new Divine Shield keystone, but it will very likely still be worth taking as long as our Armour is above our ES total

    Gladiatior Build HELP

Hey guys I'm not new to POE but I feel like I know literally nothing. I´ve been using my Champion with Hatred, Herald of Ash, War Banner and my main source of damage is Ice Crash and Sweep (Mostly cuz I on hit i get Fortity). I'm currently stacking only armor and elementarl resistances and for "utility" I'm using Leap Slam, Molten Shell, Sesmic and Endurying Cry.

I´ve come for your help because I'm stuck in ACT 9 and I can't defeat the 3 bosses in the belly of the beast. If theres a better build, skills or defensive/offensive focus I could use to improve my runs I would happily take all your recomendations. :D

Ps: Sorry for my broken English

    Most Gonzo League starter build?

    Posted: 12 Oct 2021 04:59 AM PDT

So I recently learned that cast while channeling will cast every linked spell gem and not just the first one. I'm assuming all the other trigger gems will do the same.

So now I'm looking at all the channel skills and seeing what's fun. Scorching Ray/Desecrate/VD that's pretty basic though.

So what's the most out there weird League starter build, that's like "oh you can do that"?

What builds you are choosing for 3.16? i want new builds to try out

Last league i started out as lightning strike it was okay, bit boring for me and then ele hit but kept dying easy, then as always i return to minion build which is only way for me to hit t16 maps and do all end content. i want to try another build easier and fun + Slightly tanky

Looking to build a ES/Armor character for the next league with CI, Divine Shield, Incandescent Heart and Aegis Aurora, looking for ideas

    Posted: 11 Oct 2021 01:06 PM PDT

Title. I was thinking either Inquisitor or Elementalist. Any synergies that you can think of? Or which skill to use? Just a rudimentary brainstorm before the patchnotes hit, likely that there will be sweeping changes.

    Explosive Arrow Ignite

    Posted: 12 Oct 2021 12:55 AM PDT

Am I reading things wrong or is there no reason to stack charges on an enemy anymore for ignite EA other than aoe? They gave numbers like "deals 66% more damage with ignite at 10 charges after the change" and "25% more at 20 stacks" but tellingly they didnt say how much more ignite you'd get at a single charge, which i would expect is 150% more since thats how much ignite has been buffed.

Kinda kills the flavor of the skill in my mind.

what do you think will be the ascendancies changes?

    Posted: 11 Oct 2021 06:28 PM PDT

Gladiator, trickster and I think one more class had ascendancy nodes changed to keystones. So what do you think/hope will replace them? And any other ascendancy changes you'd like to see?

Looking for a Scion Boss killer

    Posted: 11 Oct 2021 05:21 PM PDT

So I've actually NEVER played a Scion in my entire time of playing POE, and really want to try one this league. Looking to league start with Dominating Blow Guardian (Patch Notes Pending) and would love to have a solid bosser to go along with it (Although I know dom blow can boss, specifically would love one that handles Sirus well.
Was looking at Boneshatter Jugg as an alternative, but would love to look at a Scion instead. Other than mana flask miner what Scion bossing builds are out there to look into?

    Bloodslinger into Cor.Fever TS

    Posted: 11 Oct 2021 11:02 PM PDT

What do you Guys think about BloodSlinger leaguestart into Corrupted Fever Tornadoshot?

With Grimro Videos it looks decent with some old Tornado Shot vibes.

Is it scalable without insane budget and HH-Carry like most showcases of this kind?

Also how far would you go with BloodSlinger before swapping?

    Necessary DPS for map clearing?

    Posted: 11 Oct 2021 05:45 PM PDT

I'm trying to put together a build that uses a weapon swap. The ability I plan on using for mapping will be flicker strike, but I was wondering what the DPS cutoff is to be able to do t16 maps efficiently. At a certain point getting more flicker dps won't be as useful because you'll just one shot the mobs in the map anyways right?

What are some league start builds that uses Herald of Ice?

    Posted: 11 Oct 2021 05:08 AM PDT

I know its a bit early since there is no patch notes yet but what are some good league start build, that preferably can be pushed (something like Storm Brand) with investment, that uses Herald of Ice?

The only skill MTX I have is the Herald one and I really like the visual and sound effect of Herald of Ice.

Looking at poe.ninja 3 and 5 days SSF-Expedition (I'm planning to play trade though, just using SSF to exclude groups) data and 1-week data here are some of the skills people were using with Herald of Ice, but I'm not sure if they fit 'my criteria':

    • Spectral Helix
    • Lightning Strike
    • Eye of Winter (self-cast)
    • Lightning Arrow
    • Storm Rain

Those are only examples that I've found on poe.ninja, others skills are welcome as well if you think they can do good.

Needh help going defensive juggernaut for 3.16 - al dhih 100%+ enduring cry buff effect for 90% physical reduction total

    Posted: 11 Oct 2021 01:21 PM PDT

    Hello everyone

Recently looking into characters for inspiration on poe.ninja, I discovered someone built a cool combo with over 100% buff effect enduring cry and 10 endurance charges juggernaut for a total of 90% physical reduction (using transcendence to use the armour values as an elemental resistance layer). Character

Specifics: al dhih 25% buff effect, tree 30%, divergent enduring cry 23q + enhance 4 for 47% buff effect (cooldown increased is bypassed by al dhih fixing it at 4 sec) = >100% buff effect ((base 2 * buff effect 2)% reduced physical damage taken per enduring charge x 10)

Was trying to build something like this for couple days, but could never get the dps numbers high enough. This build has over 1m dps with corrupting blood, but the gear is sick enough that I consider once in a few leagues type of thing.

Would like to build with the al dhih strategy in mind as I love warcries and think that combo works very well. Just need to figure out a way to use armour, get elemental max resistances and another easier to scale dps skill with this as a league starter.

What can I do? I never did built a good dps wise juggernaut! Specially now considering I want those juicy 90% all max resistance (dreaming?) and 90% reduced physical damage taken...

    Aurabot Theorycrafting.

    Posted: 11 Oct 2021 04:46 PM PDT

    Hello PoEbuilds,

I was planning on league starting as a duo with my friend and doing aurabot. Is there any channel or player that's doing theorycrafting after the changes? Or are people mostly waiting for patch notes.
Not looking to argue about the playstyle, I just like supporting.

Most fun build in standard to try before new patch?

    Posted: 11 Oct 2021 03:44 PM PDT

What's a fun build that I can try out in standard while I wait for the patch? My favorite build was doing essence drain when shaper came out. I haven't found one quite as safe as dotting up and just running around like that one. This league I tried SST and didn't like the fact that I had to stand still to constantly do dps and that it was kind of weak for bosses. Then I tried a SO spectre build and enjoyed it but not as much as I enjoyed esssence drain dotting. Any recommendations? I have around 6k chaos saved up in standard so I should have enough money to run some builds.

Archmage Frost Bomb: Viable after 3.15 nerfs?

Some fun/unique Templar or Marauder builds?

    Posted: 11 Oct 2021 08:10 AM PDT

I know it's too early to figure out the meta builds for 3.16, but I am more interested in finding some fun/unique builds to try. I tend to only play one character per league because I hate doing the story and I like to try to push my character as far I can. Since I got back into the game during Heist, my characters have been:

Heist: League Started Poison BV, ended with Fire BV Assassin

Ritual: League Started Storm Burst CwC Hydrosphere, ended with a Spark Aurobot Ascendant

Ultimatum: League Started Arma Brand, was planning on going ignite Penance brand but went Archmage Ignite Arma Brand Elementalist

Expedition: League Started Spectral Helix Slayer, then went to a Max Block Bleed SST for maps, and finished with a slight twist, a Trinity SST Max Block Glad w/ Secrets of Suffering

So I haven't touched either character on the left half of the tree, so I figured this would be a good league to go that route. Are there any fun builds that are different enough from the ones I have played just so the game feels different to play? I know totems and minions would be popular choices, how about a Volatile dead Inquisitor or maybe a endurance stacking Jugg, are attribute stacking worth the hype? I see Inquisitor or Jugg both have ascendancies with some attribute stacking potential. I am also leaning towards a AR/ES build because of the early news on the changes. Thanks for any suggestions!

Yet another ignite BASE damage scaling question

    Posted: 11 Oct 2021 07:48 AM PDT

Edit: Thanks for all the answers. All damage from the conversions are tagged with the damage type, and increases to damage of certain types apply to these individually, at the end of the conversion chain, so additional conversions aren't double dipped on the increase, but do acquire all tags along the chain. So your chaos damage can be impacted by increased elemental and physical damage if it took physical or elemental damage as input to the conversion.

TL;DR: Does increased physical/elemental damage apply before conversion or gain as added extra, even for counting the BASE damage of ignite? Assuming all of our damage can ignite.

    --

Assuming we take Elementalist's Shaper of Flames, so all damage ignites.

Let's say we start with a phys spell that does 1000 base damage from only the gem.

Then, assuming that I convert some and gain a bunch of Phys as Extra Elemental/Chaos, as well as elemental as extra chaos from gear/passives/flasks, that 1000 phys becomes something like 500 phys, 500 fire, 500 lightning, 500 cold, 500 chaos. All of that damage can ignite. Total 2500 base ignite damage (just some random round numbers).

Now, assuming, just for the sake of figuring out how things work, I stack a bunch of % global phys damage, and increased elemental damage, normally, the increased phys damage is applied BEFORE the conversion chain, and the same for the increased elemental, which is applied before the chaos conversion. Will this increased damage then scale my base ignite damage, due to conversion?

Say I have 100% increased phys damage. I turn my base 1000 physical into 2000 physical, that is then converted or gained as extra to elemental or chaos damage. I would end up with 1000 fire, 1000 lightning, 1000 cold, 1000 chaos, as well as 500(?) physical damage that counts toward the BASE damage of my ignite. Total of 4500, because increases to generic damage of a certain type (phys or ele) don't increase the base damage of your hit. However, increases to phys or ele do increase the damage before conversion, so in this case, they DO impact the base damage, but only for the portion of the damage that's converted (so not the remaining 500 phys).

Finally, the 4500 base damage for the ignite would then converted to 4500 * 1.25 = 5625 burning damage per second dealt as ignite. At that point, say I have generic elemental or fire damage, or dot damage, generic/fire dot multiplier, that would impact the burning/ignite dps at that point.

Is this correct, or am I missing something?

    If it's correct 2 follow-ups:

    1. Deadly ailments support lowers the hit damage. This applies AFTER the conversions, right? So it's meaningless for the ignite dps even when taking into account conversions.
    2. Generic elemental damage increase, and flat added phys/elemental damage from gems or gear, would all be factored before the conversion chain (assuming I have some gain elemental as chaos, or gain fire as cold, etc.). So I can take my 3000 base ele damage, add 500% generic elemental damage, and some added cold/fire damage, and get 15k+ ele damage to be used in conversion to chaos. This converted chaos damage is used as base damage, but only the 3000 base ele damage + flat added is used as base elemental damage. Say I had gain 50% elemental as chaos, 15,000 * 0.5, 7500 chaos. So my ignite base damage would be 7500 (chaos) + 3000 (elemental) + 500 (physical).

Thanks in advance if you made it through and you can provide any help.

How hard is to make a non conversion EH work in SSF?

    Posted: 11 Oct 2021 05:02 AM PDT

By making it work I mean being able to do the end game (Simulacrum, A8 Sirus, uber elder, Maven)

Elemental Hit seens like a very fun skill to use and build around, the idea of switching element is very interesting to me as a league startert but all EH builds out there use fire conversion with a ton of uniques and that makes it non SSF viable but what about a non conversion build? Can it do all endgame content? What are the must have uniques and pieces of gear?

I don't mind if it takes some time to gear, I like the idea of slowly upgrading my character until it can eventually take the end game as long as the gear is target farmeable or reasonable to get in SSF (No double influenced/Elevated i86 ritual base stuff)
