    How strong is smelly mage?

    Posted: 04 Nov 2021 04:58 PM PDT

So i have about 10 ex and was thinking about skeleton mage. I was wondering how tanky, clear speed rating, and bossing damage?

I would invest more into over time but I'm curious how it is all around?

This post got a decent amount of traction.

So right now I'm debating between fang spider or skelly mage.

Both seem like they can be built tanky. I know neither of them will be close to my CF glad clear.

Spider Pro Scale to possible squire Decent clear speed with profane

Con Have to get use to the summon mechanic

Skelly Pro Prob get more bang for my buck right now at 10ex Open map seems like good clear.

Con Lower clear speed in closed maps. Very cluster screen.

All around starter build? - Late start.

    Hey guys,

Very late start. Friend is giving me twink gear to level but wondering what you would recommend for an overall good build? I'd like to do bosses later but think maybe its worth farming scourge first? Which seems quite rippy.

    What do you guys recommend?

    Thanks

Feeling stuck with builds this league

    Posted: 04 Nov 2021 06:35 PM PDT

Please forgive me if this seems in any way whiny, that's not my intent.

The last league I properly played was Ritual. I loved that league, made a ton of currency and killed Maven with a carrion golem Necro. I got frustrated after the notorious harvest manifesto, and skipped Ultimatum completely. I played some in Expedition, but only got to T6 or T7 maps before giving up, the game just felt so bad.

Now with Scourge, I find myself back at it, and trying to push once more. I'd like to eventually kill Maven again, but my progress seems a LOT slower. I die a lot, and if I don't die directly, I tank hits until i run out of flasks and then I die. The highest I could get with a build this league so far is T9 maps, and with those I can clear the map and kill the boss with a couple of deaths, but I have to skip scourge completely.

Here are my builds and PoBs. Currently, all of them have the 'basic' level of gear:

    • TR Champ (level 88), this is the one that can *kinda* do T9 maps: https://pastebin.com/sjnf7HLt
    • CF Glad (level 77), this one is weird, has some of the best clear I've ever felt in the game, but gets one-tapped all the time, if anything as much as breathes my way, I'm dead: https://pastebin.com/Z2sARtSA
    • Skeleton mage Necro (level 79), just got last lab points, was supposed to be a bosser with decent clear, feels very slow and weak (both defensively and offensively): https://pastebin.com/NM5MjWbu

Now, there are a couple of things that I'm struggling with, even knowing the priority upgrades for these builds (Good chaos bow/quiver for the champ, TS bow and frenzy charge quiver for the glad, and fleshcrafter/cluster jewels for the necro).

    1. Drops seem a lot worse compared to Ritual, I see people making videos with big drops and lots of currency, but my experience, at least up to T9 maps, almost nothing drops. The most I had this league was ~70-80 chaos from doing the chaos recipe to buy the gear I currently have. This is the first league where making currency to get geared up felt this hard (I wasn't even bothering with it last league, so I didn't really feel it)
    2. Power and 'juice' seems to be pushed way farther towards endgame content than before, which means you need a character that can do that stuff to get the good items/drops, but getting there is not possible without having the currency (see point 1), hence, feeling stuck

I guess having said that, I have two questions:

1- Do the upgrades I mentioned sound like the correct ways to move forward with these characters? What about defensive upgrades?

    • TR Champ: Good chaos bow/chaos DoT quiver
    • CF Glad: Physical and phys DoT bow/frenzy charge quiver/uber lab
    • Skele Mage Necro: Fleshcrafter and clusters

2- How do I make enough currency for these upgrades? I've played literally every day since the league started and haven't seen a single exalt, and these upgrades are all multiple exalts. Am I just oblivious to recent currency-making methods? Previously, I got enough currency for upgrades just by mapping, but it doesn't seem to be the case anymore, at least not in white/yellow maps.

    Any help/pointers are appreciated!

Wich unique weapons are the absolute winners in damage if you add them flat scourge damage?

    Posted: 05 Nov 2021 03:37 AM PDT

I was thinking that Uul netol's embrace has a huge increased damage mods, so by adding a lucky max tier added phys damage it Is possible for reach an outstanding 800 max phys damage. Other one can be pillar of the caged god, as it has no imternal damage modifier, but scales your weapon phys damage modifier by stacking strenght, so getting max added phys on a pillar with 30% quality can skyrocket it's damage. Other options?

Hello fellow Poison Concoction enjoyers, need your help with my build progression in endgame

    Posted: 05 Nov 2021 02:40 AM PDT

So i have this decent evasion setup going on, pretty tanky, but my damage kinda sucks. Im slowly working on my Atlas completion, doing some pretty juiced maps, but bossing is kinda hard, the damage uptime is a problem since i cant facetank.

I have beat my first Sirus pretty close, but my second Sirus - failed by dying multiple times from DIE beam. My damage uptime in last phase is pretty low, because im busy dodging all that's going on, and it ends up basically Sirus doing his rotation multiple times until i make a mistake and let him out of my screen.

Im about to do Shaper and Elder, so i worry i won't be able to.

I see a couple of ways to resolve this:

    1. Improve my single target damage significantly, so i actually apply meaningful damage in opportunity windows and kill boss faster. My gear isn't bad, but not great, im having trouble identifying what would be most impactful upgrades for me.
    2. Respec to IR + 50/50 block - then i think i will be much more tanky so i will have more room for mistakes in boss fights - here's my planned setup - https://pastebin.com/4DA8mjU7
    3. Dunno, switch to HOAG Raider? Kinda hard without Empower and chaos reservation ring. Or maybe Stone golems Necro/Elementalist? Uptime should be much better.

So i will appreciate the input on any of above points, here's my current PoB - https://pastebin.com/HjL4UFqY

I tried Crab barrier + HoAg instead of Malevolence, it has decent synergy with evasion, but didnt seem to help much with Sirus. I have focus on my left click and permanent flask uptime in boss fights.

Im on group SSF so access to some items may be limited. Thanks in advance!

How is poisonous concoction without instant life flask?

    Posted: 04 Nov 2021 09:21 PM PDT

I started TR champ, but having trouble on bosses in T14+. Biggest issues are running out of mana flasks and bosses that move since 1 shot of TR does terrible damage unless you can spam it.

I am debating going seismic trap or poisonous concoction. I've always wanted to try pathfinder and it could transfer alot of my TR gear already, but I'm worried about how the build will feel without using an instant life flask.

Also any thoughts on evasion vs iron reflexes with PC/PF?

Skelly mages vs Arakaali's spiders on a budget.

    Posted: 05 Nov 2021 02:32 AM PDT

I have about 20 ex and I would like to play a summoner build.

Currently looking at these two, so I would like to know which one would perform better on a budget. While my focus is more towards bossing like shaper, sirus, elder etc but I would still like to map so I want comparison in terms of clear, dps and defence.

Also if you have any other minion build that would be better than both of these please suggest.

    Thank you.

THE MAN OF GOD - Doryani's Touch and Divine Ire Fanaticism!

    Posted: 04 Nov 2021 04:15 PM PDT

Doryani's Touch, the TOUCH OF GOD, and Divine Ire, the WRATH OF GOD—surely the Inquisitor who wields both of these forces in the name of the Lord can conquer any enemy! Who can stand before such a holy crusader?

In Path of Exile patch 3.16, the answer is nothing at all! Assuming you're willing to fight for a fairly long time, that is. Because this obvious meme build doesn't really do more than 1.5 million damage with anything short of super high investment.

Now, to begin with, this build is not competitive or optimized; it's really just made for anyone who enjoys the idea of using two Divine-themed skills to play as a holy templar, so you can be like Dominus and shout 'THE TOUCH OF GOD' as you smash a screen full of mobs to annihilation. If that's all you want to do, and you aren't too interested in being a super tanky or super high damage character, then you can absolutely take this build and make it your own very easily.

But first, I'd like to review the problems with the build, because I actually would love for this not to be merely a joke build, but a real viable endgame build in future patches.

    ---

What is the idea/the function of the build?

Ultimately, the goal of the build is to use Doryani's Touch, a lightning AOE slam attack, followed by Divine Ire, a lightning AOE channeled spell, utilizing the Inquisitor's ascendency perk Instruments of Zeal to provide Fanaticism buffs for Divine Ire, synergizing these two skills so that we provide constant massive AOE lightning damage, both against bosses and against packs of monsters. For this purpose, we seek mainly to scale off of the damage elements they have in common: lightning damage, elemental damage, AOE damage, and general damage. However, there are some problems with this build concept: these two skills, similarly very alike in form and function, have some differences that cause problems scaling them both together. And since the build's purpose is to scale them together, the build's doomed to be a meme build unless these are resolved in future patches.

    ---

There are two big problems preventing these skills from synergizing well:

First is the counter-intuitive physical damage scaling. You would think that Doryani's Touch, a melee attack, would scale well off of Strength and its Melee Physical damage bonus, whereas Divine Ire would not, but it's actually the opposite. Divine Ire's base damage is all physical, which is then converted to lightning; if we pick up any physical damage from the tree, Divine Ire damage gets buffed, and we can get the Strength melee physical damage modifier by picking up the Iron Will keystone, conveniently right on our passive tree path anyway. But Doryani's Touch's base damage is only 2-6 physical (since you are unarmed), while all the rest of the damage is added lightning damage, so it doesn't scale from any physical damage at all. So the natural move for this build, Strength stacking to double dip in the melee physical damage bonus and the Life buffs which work well with Inquisitor's Pious Path and Consecrated Ground, only buffs Divine Ire; there's no synergy there. So you'd have to go for an Intelligence stacker instead, perhaps trying a mana stacker with something like Mind of the Council/Archmage while scaling Energy Shield instead of Life, which takes a lot of investment while not synergizing well with the other ascendency passives and passive tree priorities.

Hopefully, there's either a change in Doryani's Touch in some future patch to allow for melee physical damage scaling, or there's some new interaction opened up by a new item which allows for better synergy between the two skills. Right now, this is a big blocker to damage scaling.

Second is also damage scaling related, but this time for lightning, elemental, and AOE 'More' modifiers which we will need to scale the damage into the millions. There aren't very many which can affect both of these skills at the same time. Most of the available options can only buff one of them: Warcries for Doryani's Touch, for example, scale it very well with investment but have 0 effect for Divine Ire. If you want a pure Doryani's Touch build, this is a good way to go, but that ruins the dream team: the Touch of God and the Wrath of God, working in tandem. Simply put, we need more mechanisms to scale both of their damage values together, whether it be new uniques or new supports or new systems.

Speaking of systems, that's one big buff this build received in Scourge. It's actually an absurdly massive buff, doubling our damage for little additional investment, which means this build may become weaker if Scourge doesn't become core in future patches. So let's get into the build's strengths.

    ---

Doryani's Prototype—turning Scourge negatives into positives on every piece of gear

We've all seen it: Scourge positive is 'Gain X resistance', and the Scourge negative is 'Lose Y resistance', making it feel like nothing has really changed but which resistance you need to buff in other gear. The great news for this build is that you can make it so both the Scourge negative and positive are both buffs for the build! Any 'Lose X Lightning Resistance' modifier is a big buff to damage, so Scourging all your gear to get these modifiers will greatly buff your damage, and may also net you other good positive Scourge modifiers besides 'Reflect X damage to your attacker'. At least we hope so.

And that is the other benefit of the build: the gear, with only a few exceptions, is very, very cheap and easy to replace. Doryani's Prototype is expensive, usually near an exalt in price. Doryani's Fist is usually just a few chaos, quite cheap. The only other big DPS gain is the helmet; it's a process that may cost quite a bit of exalted orbs to craft, but you can get 'Socketed Gems Gain 50% of Physical Damage as extra Lightning Damage' along with Conc. Effect and Innervate, allowing for a 6 link Divine Ire in your helm that gets like a 40% damage buff due to that extra conversion. Even that isn't necessary, as it just hyper buffs your Divine Ire during the Fanaticism burst window; your Doryani's Touch is unaffected.

The only stats on the gear that Doryani's Touch is super interested in is your negative Lightning Resistance from Scourge, as well as the usual Life/ES/Armor. For the PoB I'll post, I focused on high survivability gear with some STR and armor stacking, but if you simply remove all the modifiers on the gear and keep only the negative Lightning Resistance (I added an armor set with that, so you can see the difference yourself), you'll see the Doryani's Touch damage didn't really change much. Hence that means you have plenty of room to craft to buff Doryani's Touch damage and Divine Ire damage and, of course, decrease Lightning Resistance as much as you can through Scourge debuffs.

    Relevant PoB: https://pastebin.com/cpM1h4c7

Note that it is certainly unpolished, so I'm confident you can scale both damage and defenses better; but after my research and testing, there simply aren't enough mutual 'More' modifiers I can find to really scale both abilities into high damage and survivability using their synergy well.

    ---

    Conclusion:

I doubt this meme build is a good way to approach endgame, as you'll likely hit a wall, but you can certainly pivot to another Inquisitor Divine Ire or Doryani's Touch build pretty easily, I would imagine, once you start hitting walls with your damage. It's certainly something fun to think about and quite a meme build, but I honestly do hope that future patches will resolve these two problems preventing this build from becoming strong in its own synergistic way: improving Doryani's Touch's synergy with melee physical damage granted by Strength/passive tree modifiers, and adding additional 'More' modifiers for Doryani's Touch and Divine Ire to mutually scale with, so that we can truly use both the Touch of God and the Wrath of God.

    Seismic trap dps help?

    Posted: 05 Nov 2021 04:21 AM PDT

I know this is probably a beaten horse with this build being meta but I was wondering if I was doing something wrong with my build? I feel like the dps is sort of there, not quite there in terms of bossing. I feel like map bosses should be just falling over but sometimes they take a bit( a bit being more then 15 seconds). Sirius is no problem but still it takes me a bit to actually finish the fight. I've look through multiple builds in poe.ninja and not quite sure if I missed something crucial.

Most of my gear has been either found/crafted my self, so I haven't put much thought to getting more upgrades, but I do know I need to get a +1 Phys/ +1 Dex amulet, and probably a 8 cluster with the correct passives & DD pride watchers. I feel like my gear is decent enough, but any hints on why I might not be going to insta boss phasing mode yet? Or was I mistaken about seismic?

Hey! Want to get my build to farming 30 waves of simulacrum and need some kind of advice on upgrade direction. At this moment I'm able to clear to wave ~25. I feel like I'm starting to lack dps at this point to clear things before they stack up and demolish me when arena becomes fully crowded, but my build already has pretty high dps (80 mil burst pob) so I'm confused a bit. Survivability is pretty okay even for waves past 20.

    https://pastebin.com/BqurBMtq

I hate that all skele builds are super squishy so I did some tweeking.

You can get max phys reduction, max spell suppression(super OP this league) 600+ life regen per sec.

My gear is far from optimal, eventually I will snag +1 min endurance charges on rings, pick up the reserve determination aura node and might be able to fit in tempest shield too next.

With decent gear u might be able to drop some spell suppression nodes and go even more life.

I feel near immortal in 200+ scourges the only thing scary atm for me is chaos because I need to start working towards chaos resist on gear. You can drop a few points somewhere and snag chaos resist node.

Having 600 life regen with infused flesh is just downright insane btw.

Haven't even annointed my neck yet for ravenous horde feel like my damage is way more than needed debating on picking up prismatic skin maybe not sure yet.
