All right so someone tell me if my idea is bad.

    Posted: 19 Jan 2022 08:04 PM PST

Okay so the very basic idea is this:

First go hierophant with both mana nodes, charge node and arcane blessing. Next up you get Graven's Secret belt to make power charges into recoup mechanic. Then you get two storm secret rings for our old friend herald of thunder and those will make us get hit very often, but for low damage. This is where you set up a permanent ward flask with the oroth resolve flask and the survival secrets jewel and whatever flask charge gaining mechanic u want, might not even need the traitor.

With this setup we are taking 500 lightning dmg before resist per storm secret tick so at 75% resist that is 125. our ward flask with the unique jewel gives us 75,6 damage reduction from every hit, now this is not all of the damage and obviously with something like purity of lightning u can make it better. If I calculated correctly u need about 85% lightning res to balance it out. Okay so now whatever damage you are taking from two storm secrets are being recouped as 48% energy shield over four seconds, now we can add more max power charges to scale that if we want and we can also add mana recoup, recovery rate and all that good stuff. all of the recoup is "free" as in its happening all the time.

Now here comes the actually fun part... I have a couple of ideas how to abuse this. The beacon of madness boots have an effect that reduces flask effectiveness making our ward flask actually lose the downside, we can also get an animate guardian and give him an item that makes us so we dont get reduced below 100% action speed. this setup has ofc the problem that we will take more damage, but it has huge potential in my opinion (lul all damage can poison with one varian of the boots, then give ag binos and gravebind... could be silly). We could easily slap in purity of elements for ailment immunity, the ward helmet that increases ward per increased energy shield and shapers touch, and im not even talking about %increased global defences yet, which would give us more increased ward and increased es which goes to ward aswell.

All that isn't very new though... My current favorite idea with all this is to go all in on the mana recoup and arcane surge. We get replica shroud of the lightless with whatever is good for our damage and then we get a staff with fire burst.

Why fire burst? It costs zero mana. Why is this important? Okay listen... They made archmage work with triggered skills right? We get abberaths hooves and support it with archmage and then we get indigon. With our mana recoup and arcane surge effect stacking (just google them there are quite a few ways) our indigon will be stacking us up by just walking and fire burst gets triggered by herald of thunder. If it isnt enough well shit just add in a watchers eye with the wrath mana leech. Making sure shock happens is surely the biggest thing to think about, but its not like that is gonna stop the build from working. Elementalist is the easy way, but with hiero its so much juicier and im sure it can be done and I will go for it if 3.17 doesnt break something hard.

EDIT: I want to add this for people... If you were "only" running the hierophant with his 4 min power charges, the belt, the double storm secret and the flask shenanigans this would mean you take ZERO damage from hot and you would gain 181 energy shield per second without taking anyy damage. You can add maximum power charges to this and any kind of recovery speed to scale it. Also any kind of recoup for mana from damage will apply.

You could also just entirely ignore the ward flask and just take the herald damage if u wanted and still play with the belt and the recoup mechanics. The point is you can make the damage youre taking actually benefit you greatly.

Phys/Chaos Shadow Leveling Skill for 1-12?

    Posted: 20 Jan 2022 05:42 AM PST

I'm planning out my next league starter, and one option is a phys/poison Shadow tree. At level 12, I'm planning to swap to Poisonous Concoction until I can use my real skill, but I'm not sure what the best way to get to 12 is.

Here's what the tree will look like when I swap at 12 https://pastebin.com/sgkUn1sy

I understand that I could go Stormblast Mine, take the elemental damage path, and then respec into phys/chaos later, but I'd rather not, because I want to swap to Poisonous Concoction at 12, and the chaos nodes are fantastic for that.

So, phys/chaos skill options for leveling to 12:

    • Cobra Lash + Chance to Poison (+ Volley)
      • Pros: decent clear, uses both phys and chaos on tree
      • Cons: single target is gross
    • Blight + Infused Channeling (+ Arcane Surge) ... + Contagion?
      • Pros: hinder is strong, single target could be ok?
      • Cons: channeling skill... standing still is gross
    • Explosive Trap + Chance to Poison (+ Swift Assembly)
      • Pros: aoe, relatively strong single target
      • Cons: slightly delayed damage, can be hard to target
    • Ethereal Knives + Chance to Poison (+ Pierce)
      • Pros: decent clear
      • Cons: bad single target
    • Caustic Arrow + Pierce ... + ???
      • Pros: decent clear?
      • Cons: single target, also, have to buy a lot (all) the gear when you get to town

If Shadow got Splitting Steel, I'd for sure use that, but they don't. Maybe I mule it? But Shadow gets Onslaught, so I'd just be muling a skill to use for like 15 minutes. Feels...wrong.

I'm leaning toward Explosive Trap, but I'd love some input. Maybe Cobra Lash for clear + Explosive Trap for single target? Any advice?

How to build defensives as a Witch/top of the tree?

    Posted: 19 Jan 2022 12:07 PM PST

Hey! I've bene slowly trying to learn how to make builds each league. I've managed to make some successful characters using the bottom side of the tree. Nothing special but progress for a newbie and tanky enough for the content I get to.

I'm now wanting to look at the top of the tree, but I just can't get my head around it. I've only ever been able to have a non-super squish character using MoM and the agnostic with glancing blows in a previous league. Would love any advice or explanations on how to build defences for builds on this side of the tree. It's the main thing that puts me off from playing Witch or spell builds right now.

Thank you to anyone who takes the time to help a newbie out! :)

    Only one build

    Posted: 20 Jan 2022 05:47 AM PST

    Hello there,

I've been playing PoE since beta, but usually play only one build a league since it's what I enjoy the most. I play group-SSF in a private league with 5 of my friends, so there is no trade except with these 5 people (all of which progress slower than I do, hence I am more of a help for them to gear and not the other way around). The problem is, the more leagues I've played, the faster I've reached endgame and got my build to a point, where upgrades are really hard to come by and their effect is miniscule.

So the question is, could you recommend me some builds which have good longevity (the ability to constantly progress with them and not be finished after a week) and still to be pretty viable on SSF? Of course I know about patch notes and that many of them may change, but I'm asking more for a direction where to look for builds like that.

I'm open for every recommendation, the only thing I'd like is for it to be able to complete endgame bosses that inevitably will appear this patch - of course after a proper investment/farm, It doesn't have to be capable from the get go.

The builds I've already played and I'm not interested in playing again:

    • Poisonous conc
    • Earshatter Berserk
    • General's cry
    • Impale/Fire cyclone champ/chief
    • RF

    Thanks in advance!

    Popcorn SRS for this helm?

    HI
Im wondering what to do with this? I was thinking a Popcorn SRS with a 6 link meat shield Zombie to support or even a flammability linked totem? What does everyone think? Is there a better way to utilise it?

    The One Build?

    Posted: 19 Jan 2022 10:43 PM PST

I wasted probably a good 3 weeks this league screwing around with different builds til I found something I liked, which was a pretty vanilla arakali's occultist build. Never could afford the squire but still made about 80ex this league with available playtime. So a 90ex build is probably out of my range, ever.

One of the things that tripped me up with this budget was getting into some decent bossing. Delirium 25-30, tougher maven's invitations, A8 sirus weren't possible. I really want to learn those bossfights, but have never found a build that was tanky enough to survive my crappy skills.

This league, my goal is to have one build. So it needs to be decent at league starting, mapping and forgiving for the toughest bosses. Does such a build exist? That's actually fun to play? Links/PoB?

In PoB, ticking Ancestral Warchief (%18 more melee damage) affects Vaal Lightning Strike projectiles (referred to as "beams" by PoB). This is a bug right?

Do damage inflicted to you via "replica tulfall" count as a hit?

    Posted: 19 Jan 2022 05:41 PM PST

The ítem description says "take 500 cold damage on reaching maximum power charges". I was planning on using it to generate endurance charges with a voll's devotion, but if it hits, then i can generate an additional endurance charge by using replica ambu's charge. My idea Is to test a CwdT discharge + endless misery elementalist, with Avatar of Fire.

Direct link to his vod where he talks about it. 1:09:22 timestamp

Basically socket AG and IL into a +3 support gem bow with minion damage. Give AG gear with increased fire dmg, fire dot, and AOE.

If you get into hot water, just weapon swap and AG will despawn.

Occultist so you can use profane bloom (enemies that die from minion DoTs count as your kills).

Boss damage from skellies + immolate + combustion + phantasms for the juicy +50% more added flat damage.

SeemsGood might try it. All of these things are unlikely to change in the patch notes.

Factoring in latency for CoC builds?

    Posted: 19 Jan 2022 10:18 PM PST

I'd like to try my hand at a CoC second char next league. I have quite a bit of experience with other build types and teaching endgame, farming currency etc. Sinking currency into a high dps CoC seems like a fun next goal.

My only issue is trying to figure out if it's even going to work/be worth my time with the latency I'm experiencing. I understand the different break points needed to be reached and how they can really hamstring your dps if it's off but don't understand the underlying server ticks and packets etc enough to understand how latency will effect it.

I often have to connect to servers with anywhere from 90ms of latency at best. To 120-150 if the internet's having a bad day.

CoC masters, will I be able to make a CoC build function with latency? And if so how would this effect the break points I should shoot for?

    TIA

Tanky Bow builds that aren't degen related?

    Posted: 19 Jan 2022 02:33 PM PST

Hi everyone. my favorite builds have always been tanky bow builds (generally duelist ascendancies) that have had Direct damage bow abilities, so things like :

Lightning arrow back in the day

    Explosive arrow in various forms

    Tornado shot

Volatile Dead arrows (can't remember the exact build, but i think the helmet triggered the balls that would auto target enemies, was a very fun build but havent been able to find it since)

I tried toxic rain a few times but I just didn't enjoy it because of the delayed damage, and the same can be said for a few bleed bow builds i've been. I'm not against bleed totally as long as there are pops and good clear/bossing.

Are there any tanky duelist bow builds that would work right now for both a) league starts and b) can scale to end game?

I am not a real fan of the ranger ascendancies because they seem more geared for mapping than bossing, where the builds I enjoy are good at both.

    Thanks!

Is there a build that paths (more or less) where the TR Champion paths but uses a different skill?

    Posted: 19 Jan 2022 12:53 PM PST

Basically, I want my defenses to remain the same but do damage in a different way if possible. So something that moves to the right side of the tree and continues to the shadow area, or, at least, in that ballpark.

(theorycrafting for 3.17, I know things will change I just want some options to think about)

    League-start Heisting builds?

    Posted: 19 Jan 2022 05:15 AM PST

Granted I understand that patchnotes are not up yet etc, but still some build archetypes are probably here to stay regardless.

So my question is - what would be best builds to league start and do (possibly high level) heisting from the get go? Especially tunnels/repo heisting (since those are the most rippiest areas in Heist, everything else is literally a fucking joke compared to them).

I was thinking something Inquisitor, maybe not RF since that's kind of counter-productive for survivability, but maybe Storm Brand or something similar?

I think for a build to be successful it would have to combine massive regen, massive EHP pool (7k+), massive amounts of side-recovery (recoup etc), a lot of armor, overcapped 77%+ resistances and probably block and spell suppression on top of it. In terms of damage it would only have to do barely 200k probably, maybe 1M tops. Going full damage in heist would be counter-productive simply because that's inherently high-risk playstyle and unsustainable in heists because they're inherently boring and its easy to let your guard down after hours of waiting for doors to open and lose a 7ex+ gem in the process (totally not based on experience).

I want to practice leveling something right now while we have time, hence why I'm asking this right now and not in ~9 days.

To be clear: I'm looking for something that can practically afk in heists during alerts with proper amount of investment (i.e. afk in up to lvl75s at first and then with some investment - afk in lvl83s).

Gain on block section of PoB is confusing, + looking for advice about a Standard CI Baron build

    Posted: 19 Jan 2022 06:22 PM PST

    https://pastebin.com/tUaGfcKS

The specific question is about the "Gain on block" section, which shows 0 for ES - when I mouse over the number it does show 1.8k gained from Aegis Aurora. Is this a bug? Or did I do something to prevent gain on block from working?

Survivability seems fine on a random alched T16 alleyway.

I would also appreciate any advice y'all would have about the build, I have never made a CI Baron build before. I've only just bought the wand, so I only have about 50ex liquid to spend. I'm decent at crafting though.

(SSF) LS Raider just cleared Uber Elder - what direction next?

    Posted: 19 Jan 2022 05:56 PM PST

Started playing midway through 3.15, this is my first time getting Uber Elder down after failing a couple of times with a Glad in Expedition, so taking a character further is uncharted territory for me

My PoB will look something like this after a respec to get 100% hit chance again, accidentally lost it when I hit the helm with a few life essences, derp. Lethal Pride mods are in config because right clicking the notables doesn't work on pob party it seems

Not too sure what to do next, but a few ideas I have so far:

    • Recraft the helm for accuracy and get an accuracy enchant on the claw to save three points on the tree again

    • +1 frenzy gloves to awakener orb with my current pair, best base to use is spiked gloves I think rather than gripped? Would have to drop a warlord ex for this, have an awakener orb set aside for this craft already

    • Better life rolls across a lot of items, mainly the shaper ring and the belt. I could metacraft with harvest for a better life roll on the chest, but that seems a bit expensive... Also considering redoing the chest on another base for a lower strength requirement

    • Crafting a higher eDPS claw through essence spam / harvest, with suffixes hopefully not too much worse than the current one

Wondering what other realistic avenues for improvement there are that you guys can think of? Cheers in advance

White Wind Spectral Helix Raider League Starter

    Posted: 19 Jan 2022 05:59 AM PST

Hey, recently started theorycrafting possible league starters. I tried to rely mostly on proven concepts. In this build this happens to be Spectral Helix, a bit of Elusive stacking, Spell Suppression (may get nerfed but It is so easy to cap with Raider so it will still be used).

With just Frenzy Charges (Raider), Elusive (refreshed with Withering Step regularly) and Chill (Vortex+Bonechill on LMB) ticked against a Sirus config, this setup nets 3.6Mil Dps assuming 2 Hits (should be the average) but with good positioning, 3 hits are possible; this would net 5.4 Mil dps.

Build is a bit glass cannon in its current config, but this is only a league starter version and there is plenty of room to grab more life and less offensive nodes as your gear gets better.

Can I make an effective Slayer or Ascendant with Sweep

    Posted: 19 Jan 2022 08:17 AM PST

I love a two-handed sword and sweep because it looks cool. I love the Scion because she looks cool. I have no other reasons for this. I am not good at this game. I have gotten into red maps only due to the kindness of people on this sub.

So my question is, can I make a viable end game build? I never see anyone talk about sweep on here. I'm guessing it's either 'old and boring', or ineffective. Can I focus on armor and bleed and make a viable mapper or bosser?

    Any thoughts will be appreciated.

    [STD - Test waves 29-30] AutoflaskFinder- Molten Strikes - Full immune Immortal (PoE) {std's items}

    Posted: 20 Jan 2022 03:26 AM PST

To avoid all idiots that think tag "immortal" is a click bait, i wrote immortal cuz really is hard to die with this build, to be immortal you have to abuse to some bug like overleech or traumashitties build.
Will not post any thread for that build, cuz is just an experiment with some legacy flask perma UP and some legacy item. The build is immune to everything (stun, elemental ailments, bleed, maim & hinder) only miss poison but i use shakari so no problem. I got like 60 life on hit for each ball, so like 1080hp for hit (if every ball hit at least 1mob) but considering the ammount of hit in middle of simulacrum, is like 6-7k hp or mor idk, hard to calculate. Btw is also full block with a lot of reduction.. Nearly immortal!

are there any press 1 button, clear map builds? + additional question about mechanics.

    Posted: 19 Jan 2022 05:17 AM PST

Hello Exiles. As the title states, I'm looking for a press 1 button, clear map build like the ones jousis made.

Like a spellslinger/spellcast loop build which can be sustained for a long time so I pretty much can just run through the map and clear everything. Doesn't need to have insane damage since I could focus more on using defensive skills off cd.

Do they still exist and if yes any ideas? (I don't wanna ruin framerate or server through it, just for lazy fun)

PS: Additional question: I'm doing a summoner build currently and the build states to use something called the "numlock trick" to autocast Molten shell. What does this mean? I tried researching but all I could find was Diablo stuff and people saying it gor changed. Is that true? If it still exists, how do I do it?
