When you're leveling a new character for the new league again

I Hope Legion Goes Core After This League

    Posted: 15 Jun 2019 01:05 AM PDT

Pooping my pants when the Maraketh archers almost two-shot me.

Circling rares and kiting them because damn, I'm about to be gobsmacked back to Oriath if I stand still for too long.

Legion generals being actual bosses that are more fun than any other, partially due to some being really scary and offering challenging fights.

Who needs coffee when you get adrenaline from fighting Legion generals?

Getting rewards from previous leagues that allows progress for each agency, e.g. so I don't have to hunt Syndicate for an eternity and instead can just farm maps to get veiled items.

Being able to self-craft my character's gear with minimal trading because I can now get more required crafting material.

Being able to progress maps with minimal trading because of more available map currency.

Playing a Pokémon "egg hatching" minigame that's more exciting than I thought, with the occasional surprise gift.

10/10. Most fun I've had in any league so far. And there's still sooooooo much time left! :D

PS: Just one teeny tiny nit-pick: I wish splinters were more equally weighted. I still have yet to find any meaningful amount of Maraketh splinters. Never was a fan of the Breach splinter tier mechanic. That's all.

The technical issues are getting out of hand

    Posted: 15 Jun 2019 06:26 AM PDT

So I pretty much never post on reddit at all, but the frustration with this topic is growing day after day.

For a few leagues now this has been the case:

The first days and weeks after release are a bug-ridden mess. It's either performance issues or flat out game breaking bugs.

I can't even reliably buy some gear because the trade site has been having problems for days now.

How is all of this not something that gets addressed appropriately?

Yes, GGG manages to fix most of the things in the weeks after league release, but how is it acceptable, time and time again, that the league start is basically unplayable?

You'd imagine that the first few weeks of a fresh league are the most important so people don't want to quit it early, even if the league mechanic is really fun like Legion.

It's just really frustrating that this has been the case for months now and it'll probably be the case for the upcoming leagues as well.

Please GGG, could you dedicate a few more ressources towards your trade API and trade site?

    Posted: 15 Jun 2019 06:08 AM PDT

I know, there are many issues with the game right now. But at least for me, the trade API is the biggest problem.

I list an item for selling, it takes a very long time to even get listed.

After I sold my listed item when it finally showed up after an hour, I will get whispers for the item for another hour or two! Because that is how long it takes for the API to fuckin realize that the item has been sold.

When I want to search for an item, I have to go to poeapp.com or poe.trade to do it, because your "official" site is so incredibly laggy, its not even funny (I know that the other two work because they use cached results). Most of the time I will have to search 5+ times to get it.

As an example: your offical trade site has not returned a result to me for the last 12 hours. Its a weekend so it seems like your ancient infrastructure cant take the load.

And seriously, threads like this have been made for years now. And GGG ignored every single one (and I of course fully expect them to do the same with this one). Which is more than crazy, since they said themselves, on multiple occasions, that the whole fuckin game is designed around trading. So how about making sure we can trade?!

As I said, it might not be a priority, but please, fix this! It seriously feels like you are still using the same ressources for the trade API that you used during Harbinger. The problem is, that the player count tripled since then (or even more, as some numbers show)!

EDIT: And of course this sits at 400 upvotes while the twentyninth fuckin shitpost about how great the Legion concept is (I agree btw, hella fun) gets 2900... And of course, as expected this is one of the rare threads without GGG input. As expected I guess.

2k lag spikes, logged out alive, came back dead. Not cool. Makes me want to find another game, TBH.

Official trade website crazy slow for anyone else?

    Posted: 15 Jun 2019 06:48 AM PDT

It's getting to be unusable any time I try to search for anything on the official trade site. My internet connection to other sites is fine and the game runs well but the trade site can barely load any searches. Anyone else having problems the past day or two?

[Angry Reddit Post] GGG should heavily consider skipping 3.8 and instead focus on fixing the basics before 4.0

    Posted: 15 Jun 2019 10:17 AM PDT

    Initial Caveat / background:

Let me start by saying I am a long long time fan of this game and will continue to play it for many years to come. This post isn't supposed to be some ridiculous demand, it's just my perspective on what could be best for the long term of the game. Further, I realize that 3.8 has probably been in development for quite some time and the chance of them skipping it is practically zero. For transparency sake, I am what most would consider a casual player. I find myself getting anywhere from 15-30 challenges done during most leagues while playing mostly home brew builds in seasonal trade league. Lastly, trading is a huge part of the game for me and is one of the primary reasons I stick with POE instead of Diablo / Grim Dawn / etc.

    My perspective:

    Content Delivery

GGG I am going to be honest with you.... at this point I am losing faith in your ability to deliver on not only your seasonal league model but more importantly 4.0. You've stated that 4.0 is going to be "the biggest expansion yet" and has been "designed to compete with Diablo 4" and that has driven a ton of hype around the community. The problem is everyone seems to assume that 4.0 is going to somehow solve the litany of fundamental issues the game has when we have overwhelming evidence of the contrary.

In the last few seasons we have mechanics that have been literally broken for a 6+ months (betrayal), require multiple look up tables to be useful whatsoever (synthesis) and cause constant game crashes (current). All of this is causing me to hold off on playing Legion despite me absolutely loving the core mechanic. I don't care how awesome 4.0 is, if these types of things aren't fixed before it launches I can't see myself playing it just as I'm avoiding legion.

As of now many of these issues, as confirmed in your blog, are being pushed back until at least 3.8 if not 4.0. It seems like every single season introduces far more bugs than it solves and you're simply focusing on getting new content out as opposed to actually fixing the underlying issues with the game. This short term mentality is what is causing me to lose confidence in the future of the game. I can't speak for the entirety of the community but I can say VERY confidently that I would strongly prefer you guys hit the pause button on new content for awhile, re-stablize the game and then focus on kicking ass with 4.0.

I understand that your business model is predicated on getting people to come back and buy supporter packs + MTX every three months, and I also understand that I have exactly zero hard evidence (outside of steam charts which tell me very little about revenues) to support my claim that it would be better for you as a company long term to slow down. But with the quality of the new leagues seemingly decreasing in terms of fundamentals each league I find myself + guild mates becoming more reluctant to stick around and enjoy the game. In years past we didn't let it bother us so much simply because it was a new/growing game and you were, memes aside, a small indie developer. I hate to say it, but that honeymoon period is ending very quickly and the fundamental issues that the game has are simply unacceptable given the capital infusion you've had coupled with the number of years you've been doing this.

At this point, I would seriously buy a supporter pack that was a MTX of some engineering looking set with the title "Fixer Supporter" in order to show support for this kind of shit.

    Trade
I wanted an entire section for this one. Myself, along with the rest of the community, are fully aware of your stance on trading with respect to the future of the game. I 100% disagree with it, but I'm not here to argue for that point since you seem to be set in your ways. What I am here to bring up is the current state issues with the trading system in an effort to explain to you why it feels so bad. So here are some thoughts:

    • The current trade system is not built for scale: What I mean by this is that by the very definition of how the current trade system works (clicking a button to whisper someone and then physically go trade with them) simply will not work as POE continues to get a larger and larger active player base. Back when we had 5,000 people playing mid league this wasn't so much of an issue because the number of people that were looking for specific maps / currency exchanges etc was far lower. But now that you're designing the game in a way that's pushing a specific meta every season + the fact that we have a shitload of new players trying to find someone to trade certain items is becoming an absolute nightmare. To make matters worse, the more the game grows the larger this issue will be.
    • League items / mechanics are hindering trade: This issue started with the veiled items in Betrayal and has only increased with synthesis items and now Legion jewels. We are now at a point where people are literally recommending to level up a scion with all jewel sockets unlocked so that you can get an appreciation for the value of the jewel. Do you understand how fucking ridiculous that is? We know that you've been hinting at these being driven by an algorithm that can be reverse engineered but even then people don't want to have to revisit lookup tables in order to figure out if shit is an upgrade for them.
    • The existing API is broken - Not a lot to say here. If you're committed to your stance on not supporting a better trade system in the future then the one we have should at least be functional. It's not like this is a new feature, yet some how it gets completely messed up every league.

    Conclusion / Recommendations
So we all know bitching online is useless without at least some sort of suggestions or recommendations on how to improve things. So with that in mind here are some thoughts:

    • Bite the bullet and setup a PTR: I know this could potentially damage the level 100 race for each league but let's be real the amount of people that affects is so small that it's almost assuredly worth the upside of getting thousands of free QA testers.
    • Reduce the need to trade via increased vendor offerings or vendor recipes: You've already done this to some extent with the vendors that offer exchanges of currency. If this got expanded to work with things like maps, div cards, fragments etc it would heavily reduce player's reliance on the trade API / website. The added benefit here is that it would also be a major QOL upgrade for the SSF players.
    • Patch a few days before league start: This is something all Blizzard fans will be aware of. They always deploy a patch a few days if not weeks before the new content goes live. This lets them squash all of the structural bugs and then focus on new content only once it launches.
    • Delay releases: I know this is like nails on a chalk board for you but seriously at this point I would be much happier with 3 fully functioning leagues a year as opposed to 4 janky ones. I realize that reducing the number of leagues by 1 doesn't magically fix all of the problems but it sure as shit isn't going to add any more.

I've seen a lot of other people with good suggestions (mini kick off races to start a league etc) and I'm sure the community will come up with many more. Honestly at this point I just want to be excited about playing POE again. It's one of my favorite games ever made and at this point you're just making it so god damn hard to love.

TL;DR - Fundamental issues with the game are piling up and being pushed back. I would strongly prefer a working game and well designed 4.0 to rapidly releases of new content. Trade is a mess for reasons other than not having an AH.

PoE 3.7, Japan server experience - lags. Video inside!

    Posted: 15 Jun 2019 05:41 AM PDT

Hello everyone! Read a lot of topics about lags during prime time on different realms and would like to show how it's going on Japan server at ANY time of the day. Usually, you have crazy spikes and freezes during interacting with monsters. Also clearly visible dependence on a created instance of zone. Sometimes, as in a video example below, you don't have any single spike at all, but on a next run an unplayable slide show. Do you have the same experience as me? I am sure about the stability of my connection.

    Please check it out https://youtu.be/Ru8phW-x60c

1st run: 00:00 - 01:26. You can notice lags especially at 0:19 and during a legion encounter at 01:11

2nd run: 01:30 - 01:52. Totally fine run without ANY lags. Magic!

3rd run: 02:00 - end of the video. And again freezing, clearly see at 02:11

    Pastebin with WinMTR test https://pastebin.com/xEinQJtk

Any suggestion on how to deal with it? Please share your experience!

It redirects to poeapp for the results, but I like the ninja's interface more. Thought you exiles might find it useful.
