For a multiplayer game the game does everything in it's power to make you play solo.

There is no incentive to ever play in a party other then to play with friends for fun. Even just having a second person in an end game zone with you increases the lag of an already crazily unoptimized visually fucked game where you can barely see shit on the ground by yourself I can only imagine how gross the game is trying to play with 6 people in one zone.

You get reduced number of lives in a game where offscreen one shotting or just one shotting from shit you actually cannot see due to visual clutter is insanely common. The party benefits are hardly even noticeable at all only the party negatives seem to be noticeable like the massively increased health pools. League mechanics like Delve hardly function in party play and is genuinely fucking annoying to get working sometimes. Let's not even talk about the hilariously gross lag and visual clutter that happens when you try to play 2 or 3 man+ Legion emblems or monoliths. Boss AI is fucking retarded and clearly they don't even attempt to design the bosses around party play at all. The way I see it bosses are designed to always attack one target because the speed at which they can flip targets and one shot in party play is a bit fucking silly. An example is a party of 3 vs Izaro or Shaper where one person can be getting attacked and the other two are in different corners and in the snap of a finger Izaro can start leaping at one of the other players in the corner or Shaper can hyperbeam off screen in an instant and fuck you. 90% of builds in this game don't synergize at all and the way curses work is a joke for party players and might be one of the most obnoxious mechanics. I mean there are so many more ways it's fucked the list is pretty fucking huge. The reason it annoys me is because I exclusively play POE with friends POE is the only ARPG in my life that I've played that feels so anti-party in basically every single way. It's almost as if this game is fundamentally a single player arpg and the multiplayer aspect is in the form of trading items. I have never played an ARPG with more visual clutter with spell effects and more lag from explosions to the point where herald of ice or any big crit explosion can freeze your fucking game for an entire second.

I've been playing this game since 2013 now and the same game breaking lag and frustrations that were in the game when I was farming the ledge back then are in the game now only amplified far more and they've never once attempted to fix it they only continue to add more and more clutter. You ever notice how everyone who streams this game never plays party play and when they do it's usually a fucking joke... yeah it's because GGG hasn't even tried to make this game function for party players. Hell how is it supposed to function for parties when the game freezes and lags for non-flashy solo builds on high end pcs? Also yes I say fuck a lot might just be how I was raised I'm not actually mad just a bad Canadian habit.

How to Contagion --> ED in Glacier and self-sustain while doing it.

    Posted: 10 Jul 2019 08:05 AM PDT

I have seen quite a few posts recently about people having issues getting the entire army to unlock on Glacier when using Contagion/ED. I made a shitty paint guide on how to do it 'mechanically', but here is a guide for players that are having issues.

    Setting up your Atlas:

This is only really important if you want to self-sustain Tier 2 Glacier Maps. If you don't plan to farm Glacier long term, or if you are ok with buying maps, then this part isn't going to be needed for you. Also note that you need to have completed Zana's quest line to do this the most efficient way.

    1. Glacier has two connect Tier 3 maps (I do not remember their names and I am at work; will update once I can). The first step is to use your Tier 3 Shaper's Orb on one of them, and use your Elder's Orb on the other. Which one is which does not matter; You will not be running these.
      1. If you need to un-shape another map to get your Shaper's Orb/Elder's Orb back, trade a vendor 20 x Chisels and 5 x Regrets for an Unshapping Orb. You can then use that on your currently shaped/eldered map and retrieve the elder/shaper orb from Zana.
    2. Uncomplete all other T3 maps (trade a vendor 1 x Orb of Scouring + 3 x Apprentice Sextants to get 1 x Cartographer's Seal).
    3. Uncomplete all T2 Maps EXCEPT Glacier.
    4. ***OPTIONAL***: Complete maps on your atlas until you have 101 completed maps. This gives you a 100% chance for T1 maps that drop in Glacier to be upgraded to T2.
    5. ***Optional***: Uncomplete all T4 maps. This is really only important if you plan to boss kill on Glacier in addition to doing the Legion.

Your Atlas is now set up to infinitely self-sustain T2 Glacier maps with basically no additional investment.

    Setting up your character:

TBH, if you are at a point where you can set up your Atlas to self-sustain, that means you are almost certainly able to clear T2 maps without my input. But just in case, here are my recommendations:

    1. You need a movement skill + at least 25% Move speed boots + Quicksilver flask of Adrenaline.
    2. Your DPS should be over about 150K. I am not certain on the exact number it should be at, but again, if you can shape your atlas without a TON of carry services, you are good enough.

There isn't much else you need to do character wise. Like I have said, once you are at the point that you want to be doing this, your characters and skills already outlevel T2 maps. There comes a point where additional DPS does not mean much on T2 Glacier. That is where the mechanics come into play.

    How to roll Maps:

This is the easy part, assuming you have done both of the first two parts.

    1. Get one white Glacier map.
    2. Alch it.

In my opinion, you don't need to use sextants (although you can use all three levels thanks to the shaped/eldered maps connected to Glacier now). I say sell your sextants instead; The return is probably better long term. I toss on white sextants every now and then, but not often. You can do all map mods with ease on T2 maps, so no need to worry about rolls.

    How to run the maps:

This is where most people seem to have trouble. While a bit time consuming, everything before this is pretty straight forward. But understanding the limitations on Contagion/ED is key to getting the most out of it. Link to shitty visual guide: https://imgur.com/a/CGBmjTz

    1. Enter the map and pop the appropriate flasks for move speed (probably just Quicksilver if you are running a typical setup).
    2. Run towards the map center until you see the monolith icon and then head towards it.
    3. DO NOT kill mobs unless you need flask charges (which you shouldn't unless you got lost). This helps ensure your contagion spreads properly. The exception to this is if there are mobs surrounding the monolith; it is quicker to kill them so you can activate it easier.
    4. Once you get to the monolith, click it and randomly run in one direction RIGHT AWAY. Don't wait for the armies to spawn, don't worry about the General indicator. Just move away from the monolith.
    5. Once they do spawn, you should be ABOUT 1.5 screens away from the monolith (depending on your move speed). When they spawn STOP moving. At this point, you should be able to see which direction at least ONE of the armies is facing.
      1. Most armies spawn in linear ranks. These are VERY easy to identify direction.
      2. Maraketh and one other army (Vaal maybe?) spawn in a haphazard cluster without linear ranks. You can still see which direction they are facing, but it can be a little confusing to determine right away.
    6. Cast your Contagion/ED combo AWAY from the monolith location towards where the General's location is.
      1. Remember that your Contagion will initiate in a circle from where your cursor is, but your ED initiates from where YOU are and moves in a straight line towards your cursor. It will hit the first mob it contacts.
      2. If that mob has Contagion, then you will trigger spread. If it does NOT have contagion, then you will get the 'normal' ED spread, but not the massive chain reaction you are looking for.
      3. This means you want either:
        1. A clear line of sight between you and the edge of the screen where you cast Contagion OR
        2. More than likely, to cast contagion fairly close to you to ensure the first mob hit with ED initiates the chain reaction
    7. Here is where most people mess up: Move towards the OPPOSITE General's location.
      1. You should know where this is by running in the same direction the mobs are facing.
      2. If you got 'unlucky' and happened to run the the DMZ between the two armies, then just run towards the other side of the DMZ.
    8. The idea is to move along with your Contagion spread to allow it to keep propagating. Monsters are only 'active' about 2 screens away from your current location. Any 'inactive' monsters, can't have debuffs applied to them (similar monsters in the dark work in Delve). So even if your contagion/ED combo has 40Billion Shaper DPS, at a certain point, it stops propagating.
    9. By moving in this manner, you are extending the range that your chain reaction can propagate. More than likely, you are close enough to one 'end' on the initial cast that it naturally spreads to that end. Then as you run, it allows it to spread to the other end.
    10. As you run past the monolith, check for the General indicator. If it is present and it points towards the Maraketh army, it is probably worth ignoring all else and running straight to the Maraketh general, even if that means back tracking, to be 100% sure that she is unlocked.
    11. Most of the time, this will unlock the armies with about 4-5 seconds left. However, depending on the map layout, the absence or presence of 'natural' mobs, and even the spacing in between the Legion mobs, you might need to either re-cast or search for a random mob that got blocked/missed somehow.

Doing this will get 95% of the armies unlocked with a single cast. I am not trying to say it is fool proof or that there might not be an overall better strategy, but for those people that are having issues or just getting started, this is probably a good jumping off point.

    Tips:

    • Beyond Increased Area of Effect and/Or Intensify Support you don't need additional AOE. Looking at you Carcass Jack.
    • Your DPS becomes serious overkill at some point. Once you can basically one shot the generals, focus on making sure your move speed is as high as possible and then your duration is high.
    • Have a good loot filter. Make sure you are NOT filtering out T2 maps or alchs, otherwise you are not going to sustain.
    • These are T2 maps, so you don't need a ton of defenses, BUT those damn archers can one shot you from off screen. KEEP MOVING.

TL;DR: https://imgur.com/a/CGBmjTz Look at this. Activate monolith, run to one army center, cast Contagion/ED and then run in the opposite direction as fast as possible to spread the chain reaction.

Edit: ooooh, this made the Hot page. That's cool. I have never been cool before. JK. No I'm not. I'm crying inside.

GGG stated they dont want to add map icons, and the purple trail can be hard to spot or take too long. I think this is a good middle ground that is both more useful and more flavorful than the purple trail

Recently I've come across a comment from a guy saying he made 150ex in the first 3 days of Legion. Is this even possible? By them I'm usually barely pushing red maps and he's already buying HH + Inspired and farming the end-content. Is this a guild with MF starters farming white maps for raw currency and div cards?
