    GGG's humane attitude

    Posted: 20 Nov 2019 09:16 AM PST

I am really shocked how human GGG devs are.

They did their first Exilecon with streamers interviewing them, gave them topic and bunch of freedom in realizing it, and were treating them as a family during event.

They were making mistakes and showing natural emotions, were autentic. Chris' breking voice, annoyed Jonathan, dancing Neon, Sam, Edward, Nick and others so passionate about their work. Beautiful. Some statements were scripted but talks were free and even casual.

They made original card game, which was going all the time - they let people kill them while others were listening to talks. Multiple times, without calling authority! I don't know actually if I should mark it as good and humane, but people had fun, so it's good, I guess! (nobody died, as far as I know)

They've done so much great work with cosplays and props (map device, hanging man, Sin and Innocence's story on glass, The Actual Zana and Eihnar! deam)!

They had dinner with people, invited people to office, LET THEM TOUCH STUFF and ATE PIZZA WITH THEM!

They are working on mobile game without commercials! MOBILE! GAME! WITHOUT! COMMERCIALS! WHAT?!!?!?!

They are not afraid of admiting they screwed up and they were scared af of how people will react but did everything anyway. Chris was actually shaking when it came to stop the race and his voice was a mess. When I heard his first words after Ziggy said that there is something going to be announced, I was scared, that somebody got hurt or something really bad happen, he actually scared me).

And so so much more, I don't even know. It's like people making game, not company making game, people talking to other people, having fun and being human. And why am I thinking that this is so weird?! It's somehow bad!

I just hope that they'll live through that big sad hole everybody surely is feeling after those best days of their life (and probably some more flu), and make more of this beautiful game, because they love it so much more than I ever thought. All that love they are drawing now to themselves from amazed community is 100% deserved.

Ah, and more Exilecons in the far future would be amazing. Even though I haven't been there, I saw everything at home (fucked up my sleep schedule so badly I was a mess at work even today) and was so happy for everyone there. This is next thing - they let us be a part of it for free. I mean, for soul, but you know what I mean.

I don't know, just wanted to say this 'out loud', cause scraps of it were floating in my mind for couple of days now.

Are you willing to make the necessary sacrifice in order to get rid of 1-shot mechanics?

    Posted: 20 Nov 2019 09:29 AM PST

Since PoE 2 has been announced and seems to be willing to upend a lot of game systems, now seems a good time to discuss some other big changes we'd like to see. One of the most common subjects of contention here is the prevalence of 1-shots and how bullshit so many of our deaths feel because of them. However, what often doesn't get raised in those angry threads is the reason why the game seems balanced around 1-shots - our own overtuned recovery systems.

In order to change this, they'd need to substantially nerf sustain mechanics (life leech, life gain on hit, ES leech, regen, recovery, mind over matter shenanigans, etc. etc.). The main reason why PoE is so balanced around 1-shots is because of how overtuned those mechanics are, such that only a 1-shot could possibly kill us. They haven't said anything about doing that, and I suspect the playerbase would riot if they did. But maybe I'm wrong about that. So how many of you would be willing to accept a massive nerf to all the game's various recovery systems?

Edit: Since apparently it isn't clear to some how the two are related, here's some helpful comments from others that clarified the argument:-

If enemies couldn't kill you in 1 shot, and present recovery systems remained, they wouldn't be able to kill you at all, as your leech/regen/etc. would restore your HP/ES before the subsequent hits finished the job. (me)

Sustain means that if damage wasn't as spiky as it is now then you would be back to full health before you have a chance to die, nerfing sustain means you can nerf the extremes of damage such as one shots as well without making it feel bad. (u/tnadneP)

He's talking about nerfing sustain so non-oneshot attacks can kill you. Right now, most builds will regen / leech / whatever all their HP back in a second or two. (u/Aldiirk)

If GGG nerfs sustain, they'll also nerf the damage the enemies do. This could lead to more strategic gameplay where you need to manage your flasks to recover life. (u/scytheavatar)

    Updated Syndicate Cheat Sheet

I am not the original creator of this image, I just edited it and updated it a bit. Unfortunately I don't know the name of the original creator, had the file saved on my PC for a while. Aislin will of course be really useful at the beginning of next league for recipes. Shaper and Elder Scarabs are probably going to be way more valuable, as well as maybe the Fragments you can get from Korell in Fortification. You can download the image and edit it with Paint, changing the colours to your personal preference.

I appreciate GGG & their leader. Other Gaming Companies should learn from them.

CEO of Activision Blizzard, Bobby Kotick talks about numbers. More phones sales. More users. More games. More. More.

Its times like this that I think back to when POE was in Beta & Even then Chris Wilson was hosting Live-streams on Twitch answering questions from the community.

GGG is still coming out with good content & its obvious that they care about a GREAT product. GGG is so good at this to the point they make it feel as if I'm not just a number in the Cog of their machine (Pun Intended).

    Thank you GGG

We need a support that makes bow attacks channeled

    Posted: 20 Nov 2019 10:27 AM PST

With the upcoming bow update, I want to talk about the power fantasy of being a badass archer, and how some elements are underserved. Personally, I teach Olympic recurve archery at a university and shoot English longbows so my opinion is skewed toward European archery.

Historically, war bows needed an extremely heavy draw to reach useful distances and cause damage. Consequently, archers were massively strong and their remains can be identified by the stress put on their skeletons.

When I want to feel like a powerful archer, I want one big punchy shot. That's why my favourite bow skill had been Shrapnel Shot, especially with the old Chin Sol: one big blast, an arrow ripping through enemies, the shockwave of the shot hurling enemies aside.

Shrapnel Shot was my favourite, but then we got Scourge Arrow. That anticipation of drawing the bow back is exactly what I want. It also encourages shooting with a particular rhythm, which is exactly how you maintain your form while shooting quickly in real life.

If we're getting a barrage support, why not a channeling support? For example, a Heavy Draw Support that gives more damage and area as the shot is channeled. I think making a support, instead of creating new channeled skills, would open so many possibilities, and wouldn't exclude people who prefer simple clicks. I would love to play a channeled Shrapnel Shot or Rain of Arrows.

TLDR: channeled bow attacks would feel amazing.

With all the special stash tabs I would love for item's to go to the right one regardless of which tab you currently have selected

    Posted: 19 Nov 2019 11:14 PM PST

So if ctrl + click on a map it will go to the map tab (if you have it), if you click on an essence it goes to the essence tab and so on. Juggling between tabs is a bit annoying when dropping off loot.

It would be great if we could also disable this option for those that want to have more control over where what goes.

    Atlas Changes

    Posted: 19 Nov 2019 04:23 PM PST

GGG kept talking about slowing down the game during the con, but they haven't mentioned what in my opinion is the biggest reason PoE is so fast.

    Posted: 20 Nov 2019 01:32 PM PST

The timer mechanics. Take Incursion, for example. You only have maybe 20 seconds to clear the entire room, kill a couple of bosses and open the door. If you're not fast enough, you lose the encounter and it feels bad, so now a build that can clear all content has to be fast enough to do Incursion, or it's not really all content build anymore.

And it's not just Incursion either. Delve has a moving cart that will leave you behind if you're not fast enough (admittedly, this one is a low bar to pass, but it's still there and you can't take 30 minutes to get from node A to node B like you can take 30 minutes to clear a map if you feel like it), Syndicate has transportation and research, Synthesis had blue stuff swallowing you if you're slow, Legion is by far the worst offender with spawning literally hundreds of monsters with a timer, Blight has a dps check where you have to keep the pump safe for some time or it blows up and you lose.

Sure, white monsters having low health is a problem, but it's not the main reason the game is so fast. I don't like losing encounters so I can't play slow builds. Every once in a while I would look for interesting builds, find something I want to try out for myself, but before creating a new character I always ask myself: Okay, this looks fun, but can this build clear nine screens worth of enemies in fourteen seconds or is every Legion encounter going to feel bad when all those frozen monsters disappear before I can kill them? And if the answer is no, then I don't play that build.

GGG has to face the fact that it's not the community pushing for more speed meta. Players playing faster and faster builds is the reaction to the devs punishing slow players with literally every league mechanic since Incursion. If the devs want to slow down the game, buffing monsters isn't going to fix anything. They have to rework multiple league mechanics first, and then we can talk about maybe slowing down the game.

Coincidentally, Metamorphosis seems to be the first league since forever where it's just players killing bosses, no timers. I certainly hope they don't screw it up and it will take the game in a slower direction because Legion took things way too far in my opinion. Sure, all the loot explosion is really really fun, but not when you just throw ED+Contagion and it feels like using an exploit.

tl;dr: /u/Bex_GGG, /u/chris_wilson, or whoever else is listening out there. For the love of god, please tone down with the timers, they kind of ruin the game a little by killing slower builds.

Dress Master NPCs with your MTX in hideout to show off to traders

    Posted: 20 Nov 2019 10:17 AM PST

I remember in a game I used to play you could dress NPCs in your house to show off your stuff to people when they came in to buy stuff. Seemed pretty cool and thought it would be cool to do in this game.

For this game GGG could use mannequins OR we could dress the Masters with MTX. Be a great selling point for GGG cause people would buy more MTX just to dress them. And we would get to see cool MTX combinations that might get us to buy MTX.

    Good idea or no?

    Change Arcane Blessing?

    Posted: 20 Nov 2019 06:16 AM PST

I love that GGG made the mana tank heiro much more viable in 3.8. But the arcane blessing just makes things feel awkward. It gives the benefit of using a level 1 arcane surge with elemental immunity. The elemental immunity is fantastic, but I can keep up a level 1 arcane surge easily with just flame dash. You might say that since I'm going some sort of mana tank, to then get the arcane surge effectiveness nodes and socket a lvl 20. The problem with that is the heiro nodes reduce the amount of mana you use. This makes it harder to proc a level 20 mana surge. So, then I'm tempted to just grab the brand node and be forced to use brands, or use the charge node that feels bad without totems.

I like the idea of the node overall. It's similar to the fortify node with duelist. However, could we get it to be equivalent to a higher level arcane surge? If that seems too strong with the effectiveness nodes, could we instead have % inc effect of arcane surge on that node? That way those effectiveness nodes aren't any more powerful than they already are. But, Arcane blessing will still at least feel good to get.
