CwC Fireball + RF Chieftain. A surprisingly smooth league starter.

    Posted: 04 Jan 2020 09:38 PM PST

So, I decided to try and make my own build for my 3.9 league start, and boy did I choose a fun one! A lot of people here helped me refine it bunches, so figured I'd post an update here on its success. TL;DR of the TL;DR: Very fun build, surprisingly cheap to get going, doesn't scale like crazy but gets the job done.

    TL;DR:

    https://pastebin.com/mEUrRarK

    • 6400 hp
    • 84/79/79 resists
    • 90% mitigation
    • 1400 hp regen/s
    • 1200 leech/s
    • 5 endurance charges
    • 350k cwc fireball dps, 200k RF DPS, 850k Vaal RF DPS, 150k Vaal Fireball DPS = ~1,550,000 burst DPS
    • 3-5c to get rolling (shield, a good regen amulet to get you by early on), 30c to yellows, <75c total to clear T15's

The playstyle is a nice little gimmick on top of the usual RF build. The addition of the CWC Fireballs turns you into this amazing hybrid of off-screen sniping and close range monster. Often what happens is you're leap into a pack, spin up some fireballs, which will then start traveling to the next pack. You'll shield charge in behind your wave of fireballs, which all hit and explode with HoA procs as your RF cleans anything left, rinse and repeat.

It leads to a pretty dynamic playstyle! You can sit and facetank and just slam out RF + Cyclone/Fireball in combination for absurd DPS, or you can play it safe and douse yourself and pick away from afar. The flexibility to turn off your RF and still have DPS and now even more insane regen has this fun dynamic of going from defense to offense mode, back and forth in different phases of fights. Either skill in its own right would be underwhelming imo, but their interaction together has made it an incredibly fun starter to fund my next char.

10/10 experience for me. Hope this inspires someone to try it out! Has been a fun twist on the usual Cyclone builds I tend to gravitate toward.

    EDIT:

Oh and, small note. To make it smooth you'll need to hold onto your respecs. To sustain the RF as early as possible, you at times need to take perhaps too many regen nodes and a Stone Golem. Once you get to maps and got those 4-5 endurance charges + Merc Lab (for Tasalio), you're good to go and can drop most of your regen gear/nodes.

Build help for Lightning Spectre Necro - Dying in Red Maps

    Posted: 05 Jan 2020 01:09 AM PST

    https://www.pathofexile.com/account/view-profile/dragothica/characters (Vesperith)

I've played this Kay's Spectre Summoner almost the whole league as main and managed to grind to lvl 90 the first time ever. However I'm still struggling in Red Maps often, so something seems to be off with the character and I'm looking for help how to fix it.

Issues: Getting one shot by trash mobs sometimes even when I checked I didn't start doing Ele Reflect maps which the build can't do. I'd probably need another layer of defense but which? Meat Shield support for zombies/skeles? Bone Offering instead of Flesh Offering? CWTD setup although I don't think I have room for that?

4k life but overcapped resistances (around 75-100% each, positive chaos resistance. Do I need more health as a caster/summoner for early Red Maps?

The character has quite a few Uniques but are any of them so bad that they should be replaced with better Rares? Only the Shield and probably boots are mandatory, I'm able to change the others. I'm also wondering about the belt, it seems to give a lot of stuff and the movement speed bonus is really nice but no life or resistances..

Crafting resistance jewelry is something I'd like to do but can't understand how to. Only way I found out it might work is Chaos/Scouring spam but that gets expensive quickly. Just try to buy better jewelry from trade?

I might also run out of mana sometimes, at least it happened yesterday if I try to cast Armageddon Brand/Trigger too much. It was weird, I hadn't struggled with mana previously.

Flasks? Doedre's flask is one of the ones I could replace. I still feel like I simply need two life flasks even with this build.

Got quite a huge list but I would be very appreciated if anyone would take a look. If items need to be changed I'd rather just try to buy them than craft them as I find crafting so difficult and random..

Bonus question: how to get the last +1 Raise Spectre level if I already have +4? (typing this on the Phone and PoE site doesn't show where I get the levels but it shows as +4 in game). I could buy a lvl 21 Raise Spectre gem but those are expensive, is it the only way?

Hello guys, my second build in metamorph league, this video is portugueses tutorial but u can find the POB in video description!

Great map clear speed, good ST, all end game boss defeat. Almost Block Attack/Spell Cap and Phys reduction Cap with flask (Great Tank). I've spent 3-4exTips: Chain (support gem) for AOE, map clear.

Looking for a tanky Shadow build

    Posted: 05 Jan 2020 03:35 AM PST

I enjoy playing tanky characters. So far I've done well with Marauder and Duelist builds, but I'm wondering if there's any decently beefy Shadow builds. For me, it doesn't need to have the fastest clear, but I do enjoy strong bossing. Is there anything like that out there?

Help, with crafting a bow.. Not sure about the mods.

Hey, so I have started trying to craft a bow for my scion ... thinking Tornado shot / Iceshot.. not sure yet.

So I hit this T1 Increased projectile speed... I have no clue, if its worth keeping - or I should keep rolling for something like Attack speed / double damage

    Tankiest all-round Ascendancy/Build?

    Posted: 04 Jan 2020 03:02 PM PST

I'm definitely not a PoE knowledge God, I've played 3 leagues kinda casual but I wanna dive a bit more into Hardcore. Obviously expecting to die, but wanna aim not to

I've been playing a few chars to 90+ this league in SSF, and I've tried simply not to die to emulate a HC experience, and lasted till Yellow maps on Champion/Trickster/Guardian

Champion gave a fuckton of Armor so I felt like I literally could not die to Physical damage, but ended up getting blasted by Elemental damage

Guardian I had 6Endurance charges, Fortify, 7k life, Enfeelbe.. But got blasted by some Chaos barrage shit from a Metamorph

Trickster I was playing MoM+EB but got ganked by some Syndicates

Now these deaths I could've prevented I'm sure with better gameplay, but I still felt like every build I've found / tried have one weakness that ends up oneshotting, so I would simply like a really tanky, all-round build

I'm reaaally interested in something that comes with on-death explosions such as Occultist or BleedGladiator, or simply a Cold Build with HoI

I unfortunately do not wanna play Mines/Traps/Minions

    Appreciate any recommendations

Help with CoC Ice Nova Assassin needed

    Posted: 05 Jan 2020 01:45 AM PST

    Hi!

Lets start by saying this is the most fun build i've ever played. I really never enjoyed a PoE build as much as I did with this so I really have the will to minmax the living hell out of it and make it kill all the things (UE/Aul/T8 Sirus etc).

    https://pastebin.com/9Jp8SkUk

As for the problems: - I'm waaay too squishy compared to what I think I should be. Fights like T6 Baran are frustrating beyond explaining (every mechanic 1 shots, about 1s to dps for every 20s+ of damage he does unless I wanna die). Single target damage is lackluster on tougher enemies like shaper guardians.

I can prob push my current budget to 15ex+, how do I make this build do what I want it to do?

Thank you very much and have a great day!

    Lightning Trap Build Help

However, I am a little lost on where to build from here to improve my damage. Any suggestions on how traps work and what links would improve my damage would be appreciated!

Best Sabo Miner build for 3.9?

    Posted: 04 Jan 2020 02:07 PM PST

Cross-posting this from the main PoE sub since this one seems more suitable.

I started this league with Durimon's Purifying Flame Miner build. It works pretty well, at level 93 I can clear most T16 maps without much issue. I can kill T16 metamorphs within 10 seconds. But at ~6k raw HP w/ all res maxed (excluding Chaos, which is ~-30%), I'm still dying quite often against end-game bosses, and many are just impossible to kill.

For instance, The Eradicator seems to one-shot me with his lightning attacks, and I can't seem to dodge them. Damage done also isn't amazing, but on PoB it says I have >112K damage "average hit" w/ PF.

I realize that I'm probably dying quite frequently due to play style, but the PF miner build doesn't seem that popular, so I'm wondering if another build like Arc or Icicle mine would be better? What's the general consensus? Should I just go for whatever is most popular on the PoE forum?

Arc / Ice Spear miner struggling in T15+

    Obligatory PoB pastebin: https://pastebin.com/UyGmuN8P

my miner's arc DPS seems to fall short in T15s.

I'm not sure where to focus on upgrading from here on, would massively appreciate it if someone could point me in the right direction to improve the weakest link in my build currently

Some ideas I had were to get a better wand and shield, but I'm not too sure what mods to look out for.

    Occulstist Frostbolt/Vortex - Sirus Awakening level 8

    Posted: 04 Jan 2020 10:40 AM PST

    Here's the video.

There's a guide attached to it, so maybe it's of some use to someone. My last character using this build was entirely SSF, but I did buy some upgrades on this one. Most of my gear is SSF, except for a better Storm's Gift, The Watcher's Eye, the corruption on the Treshold jewel and the Witchfire brew. The Witchfire brew took me 3 weeks to even get to drop somehow.

However, I did kill him at Awakening level 6 before trading this gear. It's still a very strong SSF character. The only thing that is tricky right now is playing ES. You can see that I'm stacking a lot of chaos resistance. I was getting offscreen oneshotted before I did. So if you want to play this HC, I would advise to not go Shavronnes until you get a lot of chaos resistance.

Hope this is of use to someone! Cheers.

Need help with choosing scion ascendancy for Frost Blades build

    Posted: 04 Jan 2020 01:02 PM PST

I'm currently playing as a frost blades scion (berserker/inquisitor). I was wondering is there any other combination of ascendancy better than my current one. My main problem with the ascendancy choice is that keeping up rage stacks in boss fights is really difficult and my survivability is lacking. Any suggestions?

Armageddon Brand Crit: Assassin or Inquisitor?

    Posted: 04 Jan 2020 06:37 PM PST

Hello! I have been primarily playing a flameblast ignite trickster and while experimenting around with skill set ups I fell in love with the idea and play style of armageddon brand for clearing packs and igniting bosses, and using flame surge as added single target damage. I would think that the frequent hits of the brand plus flame surge would make high crit a strong way to take advantage of the on-hit damage of the skills, rather than focusing on DoT. This leads me to looking at either inquisitor or assassin and I'm having trouble deciding between the two. I'm no PoB expert so figuring out which of the two would yield the best results is proving difficult.

A couple of things I think this approach could leverage are the notable passive searing heat (providing crit chance, +20% ignite damage from crits, and increased crit multi vs burning) and at least one of the unique ring Emberwake (stack additional ignite, burn slower).

I think defense wise going hybrid HP/ES, armor/ES gear, shield, and fortify is the way to go.

Below is a PoB link with my current ideas for each class. They are pretty similar on the tree currently, unallocated points would go towards some jewel sockets and more HP nodes. The items and gem links on the character are just rough ideas for now. For convenience of sharing I put both trees in one build.

    PoB - https://pastebin.com/0FUVke42

I would appreciate anyone's input on the choices of class/ascendancies, passives or items to consider, defensive options, or anything else for this idea of a build. I hope to get something good rolling to share with the community.

    Static Strike questions

    Posted: 04 Jan 2020 10:26 AM PST

Static strike is my favorite skill gem. I prefer melee 90% of games i play. been playing regularly since incursion. Been playing since before there were more than 3 acts. :)

    Multiple incoming questions.

    1. Is it ok to scale static strike as pure melee damage? Ig: +physical damage, +strength, +damge with 2 or 1 handed weapons, +damage with Named weapon type?
    2. Is it ok to scale it as hybrid damage with most of it coming in the form of physical with some +elemental and lighting nodes. there by having hybrid damage with physical bleeds and poisons along with lightning damage.
    3. I'm under the impression that each static beam acts as a melee hit, there by applying on hit mechanics FREQUENTLY. at least thats how i read the wiki. I want to use this mechanic to the best of my ability. I was thinking bleeds would be good option with this along with brutality support as a build version. maybe?
    4. i've tried staff inquistor, 2-h mace gladiator, dual wield axe zerker. Never really had an issue with surviving due to amount of life leech or life regen. But i have always been low on damage. So ideas on how to rectify that would be appreciated.

What my ideal build would encompass: I want to embrace the 2-handed shamanistic play style. i would like to use bleeds with awesome chains of lightning all around me. life gain on hit with some life leech.

    Thoughts and ideas?

Off subject, with out going over every item in game, how to you create builds using items. just using the Wiki and seeing what items have the modifies you are looking for or is there an easier way?

    Thanks in advance for everything.

How to scale Ball Lightning miner on a high budget

    Posted: 04 Jan 2020 05:49 PM PST

    Hello !

Due to farming Sirus, uber elder and the ElderSlayers I was able to make about 35 exalt of currency. Now i'm trying to get a better equipment but I don't know where to start.

Here is my current character : https://poe.ninja/challenge/builds/char/Naabi57/MInebi?type=depthsolo&i=0&search=type%3Ddepthsolo%26skill%3DBall-Lightning%26name%3DMineb%26sort%3Ddps

I don't know how to calculate my dps as well in PoB so it's tough looking for an upgrade. I'd like to at least stay at the same tankyness level while gaining speed/damage. I thought of tailwind+elusive boots but I don't know how good it is on a miner.

Thanks a lot for your help !

Inquisitor Blade Vortex has CRUSHED T14+ Maps on Small Investment, Looking for Tips on How to Improve/Spec into Staff Stuff

    Posted: 04 Jan 2020 09:55 AM PST

Wanting to respec my Vortex/Vaal CS Occultist, need advice.

    Posted: 04 Jan 2020 01:35 PM PST

I've been playing a Vortex/Vaal CS Occultist since league start. I'm sitting on 170c and want something different. Vortex can do all the content in the game, it's just highly underwhelming to me. Mapping is only as fast as your Flame Dash and you often need to backtrack to pick whatever vortex doesn't clean.

I've attempted to level other classes for fresh builds, but I really dread spending 5-7 hours running through the story to reach end game.

What's a good endgame build that utilizes the witch class? I'm wanting something a little faster and more involved. I also want something that gives me a reason to seek better gear. Thank you!
