    New Subreddit Moderators!

    Posted: 10 Feb 2020 08:20 PM PST

We recently asked for a few exiles to join our mod team here to help us keep on top of busy periods. This last expansion especially has brought the subreddit to the biggest (and busiest) it's ever been. For reference, we have grown by a but over 50% since the last time mods were added to the team so this was long overdue.

We had a lot of fantastic volunteers who posted in the recruitment thread but alas we decided to only add four new people to our team. I'm sure you've seen all of them posting on here at various hours and they have all been playing this wonderful game for quite a while.

For anyone new to how mods show-up in threads, if we're just posting normally, you'll see their names in a dark orange tint. If we're ever posting in an official capacity, our names will be bright green and easy to spot. So, with all that said...

    Meet the new moderators:

    Bulletti

Hello! I'm pushing 30 years now and gaming has been my passion ever since I first picked up a controller as a kid. I've played most kinds of games and I've been a part of many different communities. I've mostly lurked the PoE sub ever since I started playing the game, so you may not know me yet. If you see someone use overly formal language with unnecessarily fancy words with a sarcastic tone, it's probably me. I'm fascinated by people and I'm naturally curious about most things in life. I can get carried away by rabbit holes and forget to eat all day, especially when trying to figure out how to make a build work. Most importantly though, I just want to help out! (Cat pics available in PMs)

    2ne8

Hi everyone, I've been playing PoE since 2.6 (Legacy) and recently passed my 10K hour mark. If you know me in-game, it's probably from my fanaticism for collecting near-perfect/perfect items and obtaining double corruption altars to make them even better! Like some of the other mods, I also play some LoL but PoE is my main game. My goal as a subreddit moderator is to be fair and to help form a less toxic community than there currently is (love most of you, just not the few bad apples out there).

You might have realized that my username is a play on the Kpop group, 2ne1, which was disbanded in 2016. Although I do listen to a bunch of Kpop, my tastes are quite eclectic - I frequently jive to classical, rock, jazz, techno, and whatnot. Message me if you have any awesome suggestions to add to my playlist - doesn't have to be part of those genres I just listed.

IRL, I'm a software developer in the Eastern US, and have been honing my skills to become a full-fledged full-stack developer rather than just back-end. In this regard, I'm interested in learning more about cybersecurity, cryptography, and useful app development. Also message me if you have similar interests and are willing to teach me / talk about them!

    Swimmer249

Hello PoE subreddit! Been playing PoE since Talisman and I'm always excited to sink my teeth into the next league and make some terrible builds. You might know me from this subreddit, although I don't post nearly as much as I lurk on here. I'm really looking forward to helping this subreddit, and by extension, game, grow! Outside of PoE, I mostly play first person shooters. Some personal favorites include Dirty Bomb (RIP), Titanfall 2 (RIP), and more popular titles such as CS:GO and R6:Siege. But PoE is easily my most played game and I don't see that changing any time soon. IRL unfortunately I don't swim much anymore (if you were curious about my name), and I'm currently studying computer science. I'm going to keep this short but feel free to reach out to me if you want to chat!

    blvcksvn

Hello everyone! I'm a ssf enthusiast that has been playing since the launch of Perandus league (2.2). Currently I've been grinding it out in Slipperyjim's Gucci Hobo league. I'm always up for a good theorycraft for a hipster build or discussing POE lore.

Outside of POE, some of you may recognize my name from the Puzzle & Dragons subreddit where I've been part of the mod community for a good 4 or so years. I don't play too much nowadays but I met a lot of good friends from there. Other games I currently play include Sinoalice, Dragalia Lost, GBF, AFK Arena and World Flipper. I haven't really had much passion for a game like POE before though!

IRL, I'm a freshly graduated 21-year old mental health nurse living on the West Coast. I go by Jasmine if my username is hard to remember! It's nice to meet everyone.

    The Retired

While we should all congratulate and welcome the new mods, I also want to make a special shoutout to both Zaccie and Viperesque. As I'm sure most of you by now have seen, they were both officially hired by GGG which meant that, unfortunately, they had to leave our team. During their time as moderators, they both put forth tremendous efforts in building up this community and doing a ton of work behind the scenes. Frankly, it's a miracle we had them both for so long. We're sad to see them go but also thrilled about the opportunities opened up to them (especially since these new roles happen to actually pay them for once!). Congrats to you both!

    Posted: 11 Feb 2020 03:03 AM PST

The thing I'm going to miss most about this league is having NPC icons on the map.

    Posted: 11 Feb 2020 06:54 AM PST

Have a hard time keeping track of stuff at times 'cuz I'm getting old.. and being able to see occasional icons on the minimap is wonderful.

I wish every boss/unique always had an icon, with the possibility of rares as well.

For the moment, if you import your character and they have the barrage support skills gem, it will import as the barrage attack gem and you will have to swap them over manually.

It's great to see a lot more new people offering up their time to contribute to the fork, I'm really grateful for the time and effort they've put in. If you're interested in contributing to the fork, send me a message and I'll give you some resources to help get you on your way

I'll try and get updates out a bit quicker from now on as this one was probably a bit too late in the league.

Thank you, zdps league, for making my first ever level 90 hardcore character a dual striker.

    Posted: 11 Feb 2020 11:03 AM PST

I didn't manage to get a screenshot of the eternal achievement but here is in hideout after. 0 rips along the way - this is the only character I've created in the league. I levelled Bladestorm until I got a Might and Influence around level 75, then switched to Dual Strike.

    Things I learned:

    • Vms is OP. A fat vms (mine was 16k) makes you immune to metamorphs into red maps, even with rippy mods. At the beginning, I was very careful about not adding barrage skills and extra damage to metamorphs, but by the end I was just going down the left side and picking whatever bonus boxes I wanted.

    • Strike skills might be a meme, but Dual Strike might not be. The damage output of that skill is insane - I wasn't swapping Ancestral Call on bosses, and I was melting T12 bosses on a 5-link (so 4-link since AC doesn't add anything for those fights). And of course the splash threshold jewel is more or less a build enabler.

    • Weapon range is incredibly strong for strike skills. I didn't spec Brinkmanship, but I think I would if I was going to do this again (I'm probably quitting the league due to IRL obligations). I had +1 weapon range on gloves, helmet, and amulet; and every time I got another +1, it made an immediate difference to my clear. Also I might do it as Slayer. Impact seems reasonable for these sorts of skills.

This isn't the first time I've played HC, but it is the first time I've been successful without a silly summoner build. So some HC specific stuff:

    • Armor and evasion are really good, even outside of vms. Champion gets a lot of it for free. 40% evasion and 22k armor with Soul of Steel made me very comfortable in T12s with 5.4k HP.

    • CWDT Steelskin. It doesn't overwrite your vms like cwdt molten shell does. I've seen people keeping this setup at lower levels in order to trigger steelskin more often. I think this is a trap - you want steelskin to trigger as little as possible so that it's always up when you need it to be.

    • Porcupines suck. GGG please do something about them.

    • How you roll maps is more important than defences. In SC you might have one or two mods you can't do, and otherwise run any map that doesn't have those mods. The most defensive builds can still easily die in spicy maps. Rerolling maps that have a lot of damage mods will keep you safe better than speccing 99% of your tree into life and block nodes.

    • Killing stuff before it kills you is still a viable defensive mechanic in HC. If you're terrified of dying and try to play a 9k life maxblock gladiator with actually zdps, you're giving monsters so much time to fight back that you're potentially still more at risk, while having a much slower build.

    • The steadfast cluster is a beast. It's tempting to skip it because you never path past there, so it's always a few travel points. But it's incredibly powerful.

    • Chaos resistance. I got 20%. I wanted more, but it's very hard to buy rares in this league.

And, IMO, the most important thing:

    • It's only game. Dying means nothing if you were never alive in the first place. If Zana gives you a Cortex, run it. You might die. That's life. I found an Ahuatoltoliti boss in my Delve and got rewarded with a Cerberus' Limb (lul). He got me down to 200 hp because I'm bad. If you're too scared to risk your character doing rippy stuff like those bosses, you're not going to enjoy it. And if you're not going to enjoy it, nothing else matters.

If you are a SC player and the game's losing a bit of its spark, try out HC. You might find you like it after all.

Here's my pastebin. Thanks for reading.

Chill and freeze. Reliable as an additional defensive layer Vs endgame bosses? Or is it too weak defensively for it to actually matter?

    Posted: 11 Feb 2020 08:21 AM PST

The core game mechanic philosophy of cold damage to my understanding, is that you sacrifice damage (compared to fire and lightning) for some defensive utility. In that chill and freeze reduces monster animation speeds.

The benefit being that for people like me who has horrible reflexes, you can somehow compete with people with good reflexes - in closing that gap between you and bosses.

Thing is I've never actually been at endgame much so I have no personal experience. So I'd just like the cold truth to this. Does chill and freeze lower endgame boss animations enough to make the difference if your own reflexes suck? If I make the decision to go cold over X other damage source, can I expect a meaningful payoff Vs endgame bosses?

Hello, is anyone else having latency issues on the EU servers?

In hideout im at 25ms, but as soon as i go anywhere else in the game, it shoots up to 140-150.

    Usually it's at 25-30 everywhere.

Speedtest is 84 down 95 up.

Does Painseeker multiply with Glacial Hammer?

    Posted: 11 Feb 2020 12:32 PM PST

If you combine the "Inflict non-Damaging Ailments as though dealing 200% more Damage" mod from Painseeker with the "Every third successive strike Freezes enemies as though dealing 390% more Damage" from Glacial Hammer, do they multiply so that every 3rd strike freezes like it deals 1370% more damage, are the two effects additive with each other (590% more damage on 3rd hit) or does the larger mod replace the smaller one (200% more on hits 1 & 2, then 390% more on hit 3)? In SSF and a high value Painseeker dropped for me, along with the Glacial Hammer splash jewel and I'm wondering if it's worth making a build.

    Can't delve deeper

    Posted: 11 Feb 2020 03:30 AM PST

    Can't delve deeper

Heyo, kinda new to poe and started to delve, but now when I try to delve deeper I just end up in a hallway and in the end the cart just stops and I can't press it to return/delve more and I have to die or relog. It is always the same, just a straight hallway with nothing in it and I can't do anything at the end. Am I doing something wrong?
