[Discussion] GGG, please consider making optimizing performance a priority for 3.11.

    Posted: 07 Apr 2020 09:22 AM PDT

I loved this game 3 years ago before I got busy with school. Now that I am in a little hiatus before going back to school, I thought it'd be nice to enjoy the game again. Since then, lots of amazing content has been added. But at the price of severe performance issues.

This is perhaps the third time I've ranted on here about performance issues. I've tried basically everything in my config file, including:

    • Scaling down the resolution

    • Disabling sound

    • Reducing texture quality

I also customized settings in the Nvidia Control Panel to basically set EVERY setting for performance optimization.

Game now looks like crap, but yes, the frames are smoother. As long as no mobs are spawning. But as soon as conqueror-themed mobs spawn, the game freezes for a few seconds and bam, 10% experience lost- and this is without the map being under delirium. Even being near a delirium mirrior, with its massive particle-dense assets, the frames drop.

Areas with foliage assets such as High Gardens drop my frames; the Yugul fight is basically the worst one in the game because of this- the frozen orbs drop the frames even further, down to 10 FPS.

The Reedemer fight is only scary when she launches her ice-barrage spell. Not because it does a lot of damage, but because when she casts it, my game freezes and I literally cannot dodge the spell. Every time I start the fight, I pray that somehow the game won't freeze during that spell. Is this the point of the game? To worry about frame lag and not the ACTUAL game??

I miss when I had to worry about game mechanics and not frame lag. I look back at Tul breachstones and worrying about being chilled and frozen to death, not the ice assets tanking my frames, because somehow that was not an issue back then, even when I played with higher quality settings.

I understand GGG acknowledges something broke with 3.10 and they've been attempting to fix it which I appreciate, but the game now has so many situations in which visual performance takes a huge hit.

If we could maybe have an option to reduce particle effects, that would hopefully improve performance. I don't need the delirium mirror and fog to look pretty- I just want to be able to worry about mobs and not game freezes. The conqueror-themed mobs don't have to look pretty when they spawn- I just want to not freaking die everytime they spawn just because the assets freeze the game. The reedemer fight could be improved just by making the circulating winds in the arena become a big, solid donut. Sure it'll look like ass, but at least I can focus on the fight and not worry about frame lag.

To those who say "just get a better PC" here is why that idea is ludicrous:

    • I had zero issues prior to 3.10, and my specs are crap: 950m laptop, i7, 8 GB RAM.

    • People with far, FAR better builds than mine complain of similar issues

    • Hot take: I should NOT have to drop over a thousand dollars on a build just to be able to play a FREE game. Especially when I am able to run games like Dark Souls III, Dota 2, Fallout 4, Hitman, and Battlefield on respectable settings with decent frames (45-60).

Can we make perandus coins stack already

    Posted: 07 Apr 2020 05:26 AM PDT

Just a small reminder for everyone: This is a game and not work. It should be played for fun, even though some people make it sound like work.

    Posted: 07 Apr 2020 04:35 AM PDT

If you end up having to ask for "motivation" here on how to keep playing, something's not right.

If you find yourself not having fun, just don't play and go do something else. It's as simple as that.

Cluster Jewels are the coolest mechanic add since I started for crafting

    Posted: 07 Apr 2020 09:59 AM PDT

I joined back in Betrayal and slowly got deeper into the game. This league I might not enjoy Delerium encounters but I LOVE cluster jewels and crafting. I enjoy they are adbundant so you don't need to trade them. To craft good ones you can spam alt and regal and scouring, it's cheap and simple for newbies like me.

I love it can add so much power and the tiering of small/medium/large clusters. Overall just a huge fan of the feeling of being able to craft some awesome jewel for my build without needing tons of currency or research.

I'll share a jewel I just applauded myself for making, roast away :)

It seems insane to me that an average map will drops hundreds, sometimes thousands of items.

    Posted: 07 Apr 2020 07:48 AM PDT

All it does is lag everybody's game. Why is it so hard to reduce the total amount of drops by at least a solid 90% to only keep the typical items that pass through loot filters + 50% to 100% clutter instead of the current decent drops + 9000% clutter?

    Results from 72 Simulacrums

    Posted: 06 Apr 2020 11:52 PM PDT

    https://imgur.com/gallery/cmVPqzy

This is my first post on here. Had to make an account for this, and felt like testing the Simulacrums. I've seen countless people on this subreddit saying its not worth doing Simulacrums for profit/experience, so I wanted to test for myself.

I love wave based mechanics, so I absolutely loved doing a big number of these, I was going to do 144 of them, but buying the last 72 was going to be to much of a headache.

It took me 4 days to run all 72 of these, could of done it faster but im terrible at organizing tabs lol.

My initial investment was 4680 chaos, that was buying 52 of them at 90c per and starting with 20 of my own, but to make things easier lets say I bought them all, and initial investment would of been 6480 chaos.

I had three voices drop, one 3 stat, and 2 7 stats, at the end I had 1200 stacked decks from all of them (I opened them) I got one doctor, the only decent drop out of them. I sold the 3 stat for 90ex, and the doctor for basically 18. I sold the 7 stats for 5.5ex per - I'm going to subtract those from the profits, to show gains without lucky drops.

Taking those out I ended up with 49ex, 7995 chaos, and a ton of other mixed currencies. (This isnt including scarabs/stones etc) its actually way higher, just selling those are a real big headache with the absolute ton of spam you get on them.

I was getting to 5/6 stacks every wave, except on the super bad layout (Oriath)

If you add the high tier drops in, the profits are actually insane, and I assume people will get atleast something from doing as many as I did, I personally think I got unlucky with only 3 voices drops in total, but I have no clue how rare they are.

Everything above 48 ex was profit, if you say I bought all 72 of them.

Outside of legion 5 way headhunting, I think this is the most profitable league mechanic in a long time.

I probably could of hit 99 or 100 doing these as the exp is really good, however some mods are super rippy, and im just stubborn.

TLDR: Profits from these are extremely good if you take the time to invest into them, exp can be very good aswell if you aren't a potato, and dip out for super bad mods.

I'm playing EK Heraldry Elementalist, Here's my PoB for those that are interested: https://pastebin.com/P8nGL9fh -A small note about this build. I decided to take Somayd's Deadeye version of this, and go over to elementalist, to fit another aura in + be ailment immune with the golems, Ailment immunity in these simulacrums almost feels like a must to survive the last waves. I'd tag him on here, to give him credit for the build but have no clue how to use reddit fully yet lol.

But I'd like to thank him for the build inspiration, really fun to play and will most likely push it to 100.

Sorry for the super long post and probably bad formatting.

Wasn't sure what flair to use, so just put it under information.

Forgot to add, I used the eggs as I got them (Incubators) a lot of the stacked decks came from them, the overflow of them is crazy, and I 100% couldn't go through them all.

I keep forgetting some other minor information lol - I ended up leveling Heralds of Ice in my offhand (Buying em from vendors, and leveling all to level 20/20) I ended up with 48 20/20 Herald of Ices, and 6 20/20 Herald of thunders. (Non-corrupted for selling) Gems get crazy exp in these.

I also sold all my Blighted maps, which was a good chunk of currency. I'd rather run these over blighted maps any day.

EDIT: https://imgur.com/gallery/qzi7thL This is super scuffed, I was super lazy and didn't want to make a google doc, but was recording all notable drops on a notepad as I went, it accounted for more downtime, but I just wanted to keep track. If I do something like this again, which I probably will, I'll be more prepared when going into it. I kinda did this on a whim. The wave # in the notepad is what wave I got my unique on, the () is the town I got. From what I've gathered, the small unique cluster jewels can only drop from maps, not the Simulacrum for those that are curious, but I could be wrong and could be extremely unlucky.

Streamer gets girlfriend to try PoE for the first time

    Posted: 07 Apr 2020 01:42 PM PDT

PoE has a massive sound pollution problem.

    Posted: 07 Apr 2020 02:15 PM PDT

Not only is there a massive amount of borderline incoherent noises at all time, that don't do much to even tell you what's going on, but they actively cut 20-25 frames off my performance.

I recently lost a 60% delerious map I'd spent a lot of scarabs on to a mercilessly bad framerate of TWO FPS, and finally decided to try the "no sound" trick. The performance upgrade I immediately got was great, but I was really scared to do this for a long time because I thought I'd lose a lot of important sound data from the game. Most games sound effects help you figure out what's going on, and can aid your gameplay. I realized after shutting off the sound, there is SO MUCH going on all the time, that the sound is worthless. I'm pretty sure the only sound notifier I'm missing (if you leave voicelines on) is actually from Volatile Flameblood.

Here is two seperate gameplay clips, first with sound, then without, so you can see the drastic difference. Despite what first impressions might make you think, I'm not on a potato PC, I have an SSD and hold 60 frames on nearly every other modern game. PoE both needs a QC pass on it's sound for coherency and for performance.

Steelmage - Voices Cluster Jewel Drop

    Posted: 06 Apr 2020 11:53 PM PDT

Why does the game seem like a bunch of blinking & AOE spamming?

    Posted: 07 Apr 2020 10:09 AM PDT

Please excuse my naivety. I've heard nothing but great things about Path Of Exile, but when I go to check out a stream to see what high-level players are doing, I feel like I'm just watching them run around with a cluster of AOE around them as they blink through maps.

I'm sure I am, but what am I missing about what makes this game fun?

    Thanks!
