Is Lori's Lantern's "Damage from Enemies Hitting you is Unlucky" worth it?

    Posted: 19 Aug 2020 04:55 AM PDT

I've checked how does mob damage diverge and it's 0.8 - 1.2 of average damage for most damage types, except lightning (0.6 - 1.4) and chaos has lower divergence (about 0.85 - 1.15).

My point is to see if "damage against you is unlucky" is worth taking up a ring slot, sure you do get some resistance with Lori's Lantern, but it's just 60 all res and 25 chaos.

It's pretty awesome get 8% movement speed on a ring slot, but let's check it's defensive capabilities.

    For Cold, Fire, Phys:

    Hit range 80-120

    Avg hit: 100.0

    Avg unlucky hit: 93.3

    That's 7.15% damage reduction

    For Lightning:

    Hit range 60-140

    Avg hit: 99.9

    Avg unlucky hit: 86.6

    That's 15.33% damage reduction

    For Chaos

    Hit range 85-115

    Avg hit: 100.0

    Avg unlucky hit: 95.0

    That's 5.27% damage reduction

So I just wanted to share my findings, it's damage reduction applies only to hits tho, so keep that in mind.

Also it's reduction is pretty random, because all it does it rolls enemies damage twice, it doesn't roll crit or hit chance twice and mob still can get that high roll if it rolls twice, but I think it's worth taking up a ring slow if you lack defense and are on a budget.

GGG, Lets Talk About On-Death Effects

    Posted: 19 Aug 2020 11:33 AM PDT

I have the utmost respect for you guys. I have supported, and will continue to support, you guys for the past 7ish years. I have played through some ups and downs. Mostly Ups. But I wanted to take this time to make sure you guys, girls, and everything in between understand how the community feels about one thing in particular.

I don't believe there is any dissenting opinions on this and from my polling through various Twitch chats and discords, the opinion seems universal.

It is time to stop introducing new on-death effects that kill our characters. These are not fun. They don't take skill to avoid. Any mechanic that is essentially a "haha, got em" thing probably shouldn't exist anymore.

Now, specifically I want to bring up an example. Volatile Blood, in its current form, is a fantastic mechanic. We see them coming. We have to be strategic and can make sure we pop them in a safe location. This was not always the case.

Before it was changed a while back, mobs with Volatile Blood exploded on death and usually one-shot your character. Due to the overwhelming negative feedback of this mechanic, it was changed to what it is today.

What have we seen since then? Metamorph League. So many people died from killing the metamorph/metamorph mobs and would die from on-death effects. This one wasnt a specfically egregious offended, as it was usually to be expected from them. GGG, you received negative feedback from us about this and toned it down. Metamorph, as a mechanic, is in an interesting place. Some people love it, and some hate it. I am a fan.

Then we have Delirium League. This, quite frankly, was a clusterfuck. We were forced to loot as we go to keep from having to backtrack through an entire map. But at any point, we could get popped by a on-death Cremation effect and shotgunned into oblivion. Many an angry person happened from this mechanic in particular. The league mechanic was changed in multiple ways during the first two weeks of the league to adjust the on-death effects. They still exist today and are just as frustrating to deal with, albeit they deal less damage nowadays.

So with multiple years of this, surely you'd focus on creating a new set of mechanics...

Harvest league, multiple on-death effects. Including dying a full 10+ seconds after all mobs on-screen are dead because you killed them on top of the crafting bench.

I don't understand why "Okay, so when the mob dies...it kills the player" is the default go-to for new mechanics.

"Okay, boys...We are releasing Piano League. Players have to farm up sheet music from anthropomorphic Piano Keys. Give me your ideas."
"Hey, what if the Sharp Keys explode on-death?"
"Damn it, Jenkins, you're a genius!"

In summary, I would say we, as a community, tend to enjoy new daring mechanics. The Harvest growth thing was interesting. The Delirium Mirror was cool, with some downsides from loot backtracking. But please take "On-Death, kill them" out of the default pool of new league mechanics so we can continue to praise our GGG overlords!

    Lots of lovie dovies!

Textures taking too long to load on every map

    Posted: 18 Aug 2020 09:04 PM PDT

Edit: This was an issue introduced in the latest patch. The game was running very well three days ago.

Title. Even after the patch that fixed textures, I'm still freezing the first couple secs everytime I enter a map, and see a new type of enemy, thus need to reload its textures. I'm on hc, and such lag makes me afraid to do maps. Is there anyone facing the same issues?

    Specs: I7-8700

Radeon Rx570 (double-checked there is no driver update to do).

    SSD

    Thanks.

    Strike skills

    Posted: 19 Aug 2020 12:52 PM PDT

Can we please get inner splash or alike (target # additional enemies), or in a Keystone. Out of all skills that there are in the game, strike skills are the ones that are most out of balance. They require melee splash or ancestral call and you have to gem swap for bosses to get an actual 6 link, meanwhile all other skills can have it by default. Choosing 4 nodes for Tribal Fury and rolling "Strike skills target 1 additional nearby enemy" on gloves is a waste of prefix and 4 passive points which still doesn't give you as worthy aoe as Melee Splash or Ancestral call provide

Could we see a PoE race in GDQ?

    Posted: 19 Aug 2020 08:13 AM PDT

    Hi all,

Recently I've been enjoying another round Summer Games Done Quick (SGDQ) (which is being done digitally/remotely this year) and the question in the title arose to me. For those not familiar with the Games Done Quick events, the tl;dr is that it's a gaming event involving speed runs and races that is held in order to raise money for charity.

Despite the occasional toxicity discussion I do feel that the PoE community is, in general, still among the best in gaming even as it has continued to grow. I've personally always enjoyed watching and supporting the speed runners and racers in the GDQ events as they raise money for charity, even if I'm just a casual gamer (at best). To me, this match up seems like a no-brainer, bringing two positive communities together to support a good cause.

The PoE community already has established personalities that do racing, streaming, commentating, etc., and I did not see anything at a glance in the rules of GDQ game submissions that would eliminate PoE as a game. I feel like the creative minds of this community could also come up with all sorts of interesting incentives for donations, which is good for the charity GDQ would be supporting.

Not sure if there's any big roadblocks I missed, but mostly wanted to get other people's thoughts and see if there'd even be any interest from the community.
