Year-End Subreddit Meta Updates Posted: 22 Dec 2020 06:11 PM PST Hey everyone! Hope you've all been well. Just wanted to catch people who are interested up on some of the workings and changes behind the scenes. You'll be meeting a new face soon! We've affectionately named him GR8B0-T like the furry (mechanical) friend you've no doubt met in Heist league. Give him a pat now and then. GR8B0-T will be taking over the roles of the daily deals bot (updating the sidebar for MTX deals) and the scheduled post bot. Later, he'll be able to flair GGG posts and GGG comments separately. Thanks to Emmitt for training our little pup! Automod will take over daily scheduled posts. We've also decided to discontinue the daily trading and daily lab threads due to disuse (sorry SuitSizeSmall!). Please use PoeLab and your favorite trading discord or websites instead! GGG Comment Bot and Exilebot will be unaffected in case of posting limits. In other news, we'll be rolling out some minor updates to current rules to clarify some things. Rule 2

Just adds another way to get neat and rare vanity items into the game without playing the chance orb lottery. Dual-influence uniques still need awakener's orbs though, so the biggest vanity-est items are still a significant time sink. PSA: Tab affinity "Eating" maps Posted: 22 Dec 2020 10:07 PM PST I have tab affinities set up to put maps into my map tab, and after depositing several maps, I noticed they were not there. I searched the remainder of my tabs to ensure this was not in error and the maps had disappeared. I searched the maps by name in the maps tab, since I knew I had dropped scriptorium and flooded mine maps. Under scriptorium it said I had zero. Once I highlighted scriptorium by clicking the map icon with my mouse, the map count went from 0 to 2, and I could now see the maps. The issue now is with the other maps I have not yet completed. Since they have not been completed, there is no icon for me to click on to update the count of the map, and therefore will be inaccessible until I drop another of that same map and complete it, or deposit it manually with no affinities to unlock the icon. I was wondering if using the identifying sextant paired with a filter that would only show T1 mods combinations (or something of the sort) would lead to good results (1ex+ items I would consider good result) ? Posted: 22 Dec 2020 06:14 PM PST I read the series of "content gating" related complaint posts and remain perplexed, because the players expressed a valid complaint but did not diagnose or frame the problem correctly. I'm a lazy market pvper that makes a lot of exalts from casually exploiting market structure / less aware players, and I was also trained at a top 6 econ department because of bad life choices, so let me give a rundown of what the problem with GGG's current solution to content choice is, and why it's not really working for most players. (But rest assured they are aware of the issue as revealed by the upcoming endgame rework. ) Some people frame the issue of content gating as "having to do other types of content to access the content I want to play," but this is miscasting the problem a bit, at least in trade league. (I'll talk about SSF later) If we are talking about content gated behind other content, GGG is well aware of the problem and have tried various ways of giving players access. In the olde days of league mechanism merely being an additional feature to the Atlas, rather than full blown content types, they developed league stones and also Zana mods, to help players choose their content. League stones were ditched, but the market based, tradeable access token system remained as an idea that, at least in theory, would allow players to choose their own type of content. Later on, access-tokens to expansion style content types mostly follow the market based mechanism rather than Zana mod mechanism. The distinction between the two is that the tradeable token system has a price determined by the market, while Zana mod is a fixed cost system, with cost determined by reward value, but still at a fixed amount. The market, however, offers only the formal exchange mechanisms, and does not guarantee equal access in fact. The real problem with content gating is not really that you need to run maps for contracts/sulfites/deli orbs/breachstones, but that these things are priced by the market and this introduces some problems, sometimes becoming restrictive rather than liberating for content access. Delve is a prime example, because it exhibits two phenomenons that make the above diagnosis manifest in an extreme way. Sulfite scarabs, which offers the access to run delve and is tradeable, liberating? Hardly, when they are at 0.5 ex a pop and the average player feels extremely punished for using these instead of trading them away.
So, what we have is the current situation, high investment deep delving player group determines the price of sulfite, while players who just want to play delve for the content is losing a lot of value on their scarabs. In fact, a lot of players sell their niko missions. If you do not feel punished for running delve at less than optimal efficiency, good for you! But your exalt stack is feeling it, and unless you are independently wealthy, it's not sustainable to buy at market price the access tokens and run them suboptimally. Deli orbs, same thing. Group blasting of 100% maps sets the price of inputs, or farming T17 maps for clusters etc. Okay, maybe they don't do this but whatever, bear with me. The basic issue is the above mentioned mechanisms that both gate out most players and also make it feel really bad for running the content they were supposed to enable choice for. SSF, some game mechanisms are designed with SSF/first play through experience in mind, but the rates/rarity etc are balanced for trade league. So SSF is punished for the excesses of trade league grinders. This applies to people who just want to play SSF in trade league too, the rates of {content you want to run} are set with trade league in mind. But look lads, GGG is aware of the problem and is going to a zana-mod esque system for the next revision of end-game. It's even better than zana mod because the cost seems to be none, and instead of cost gating it's just choice set, so players can't choose everything at once etc. I'll have to think about what this would mean for the poe economy, but it probably wont' impact my own money making schemes too much.
