Subreddit Rules Update (+ clarification on an unban)

    Posted: 21 Mar 2021 10:50 PM PDT

Hello everyone, hope you've all been doing well.

I'm posting today to share with everyone a rules update. This is a follow-up to my previous post back in December regarding our year-end mod meeting. I've read everyone's feedback with a fresh perspective (ended up being a little later than planned..) to hopefully provide some more reasonable additions to the rules. We've also made lots of clarifications to some of the vaguer rules, as well as a few additions that address some of the issues that have arisen recently.

    New reddit view: https://www.reddit.com/r/pathofexile/wiki/rules

    Old reddit view: https://old.reddit.com/r/pathofexile/wiki/rules

I recommend that everyone take a couple minutes to read the page linked above in its entirety as reading patch notes is only going to give you partial information.

    • 1a: This was previously rule 11.
    • 2a: "Accusations Require Evidence" made into a distinct sub-clause. These posts now require image or video evidence.
    • 2b: "Path of Exile Account Issues" made into a distinct sub-clause. This covers appeals for bans or lockouts, which should be directed to GGG support. Note that this does not include general discussion about banwaves or other general issues.
    • 3: Updated some wording, and provided additional examples of harassment towards staff, streamers, and community members. Clarified that serious violations will now get 2 ban steps, instead of 1. Added an additional warning about retaliating against people harassing users.
    • 3a: "Impersonation of Use of GGG Title" made into a distinct sub-clause. Otherwise unchanged.
    • 4a: Clarified that images of people related to POE (e.g. staff, streamers) do not sufficiently meet image requirements.
    • 4b: "Tencent Server Discussions" sub-clause added. While our aim is not to stifle discussion, we want to ensure that these types of threads do not devolve into racist comments as it has often done in the past. Please also be aware of Tencent server content that may be spoilers or leaks of Global server content.
    • 5: Examples of Low Effort content merged into main rules page. Please take a look at these.
    • 5a: Added clarification about automoderator catching clickbait titles - note that these are also against site-wide posting rules. Also included misinformation clause - also against site-wide posting rules; we actually had a report option for this but no corresponding removal reason previously.
    • 5b: Incorrect Lazy Sunday Flair added, although it was already in effect unofficially.
    • 7: Added a note regarding Megathreads.
    • 7a: Temporary megathread removal reason may be implemented if excessive posts occur around announcement times. This was already used previously but clarified now.
    • 8: Made some clarifications regarding "mirror service" advertisements.
    • 8a: "Giveaways" made into a distinct sub-clause. Provided specific guidelines for giveaways on reddit.
    • 9: Added examples of what is/is not permitted under Excessive Promotion, as well as reminding of the 10/1 guideline. Provided clarification that we usually provide a one-time warning for excessive promotion before being stricter about removal.
    • 9a: "Limits on Series Posts" made into a distinct sub-clause. This was previously rule 13.
    • 9b: Updated some wording on Sponsored Events. Using the flair is mandatory.
    • 9c: "External Communities" sub-clause added. We recognize the use and benefits of external communities to promote friendships, trade, and socialization. We've made the restrictions previously brainstormed much lighter. Please note that drama from external communities should not be posted on this subreddit. It is neither practical nor realistic for us to go digging to moderate this efficiently.
    • 10: The previously announced updates to Item Showcases have been dropped. However, we have decided to make crafting steps the one requirement because of its popularity (and the common assumption that it was already required!)
    • Ban Policy: Provided clarification about our ban policy and the "4 strikes" system, as well as exceptions. Also provided specifics about ban appeals and alternate accounts.
    • Lazy Sunday: Updated information regarding Lazy Sunday which was already in place but not listed under the rules.
    • Post removal appeals: Clarified that only modmail appeals will be considered.
    • Misc: Updated outdated links.

Additionally, I would like to speak briefly about our communications with a streamer named Path of Matth to provide some clarification on the current situation. First, a disclaimer: we do not publicly talk about ban statuses, but considering this was a moderator-initiated action and I was permitted to share this by him, I will do so given that it may confuse some community members. In a previous incident, following a violation of rule 3, /u/pathofmatth should have been given a stage 1 ban. Shortly thereafter, he was reported for brigading. However, he was immediately escalated into a permaban.

More recently, he was in the spotlight due to a situation between his community and GGG, which escalated quickly and created conflicts between many streamers and community members. As we're not officially affiliated with GGG, issues regarding his in-game account will not be addressed here. One of the relevant issues that was brought up at this time was the use of alternate accounts to post in defence of himself. Officially, we did not have a rule to address this, but we opted to ban these accounts. However, it is true that we poorly addressed the situation and perhaps acted in a biased way regarding the situation. Feedback was provided regarding vagueness within our rules. This prompted us to work on making clarifications and updates to our rules which have been relatively outdated for several months. Using the year-end update discussion from December, as well as ideas from these recent events, we created a (hopefully) more relevant version of our rules for the subreddit.

In the spirit of spring cleaning and tying up loose ends, our moderation team reached out to Path of Matth to clarify situations. Our understanding is that many of the conflicts between him and us came from misunderstanding, so we both accepted faults for our respective wrongs. Rather than continuing a game of cat-and-mouse, we have decided to go back on our previous permaban on his original account. Because it is currently deleted (and unable to be reactivated) we have sanctioned him to post as /u/RealPathOfMatth. He will start with 2 strikes at this time (meaning that he is only permitted one more strike before a perma). We are sharing this information so that we will not have to correct people who comment about "a new alternate account". Please do not harass or target him regarding this or previous situations. We will be closing this case. While we understand that not everyone may be in favour of this decision, we hope that you can understand our rationale for doing so, and recognize how it helped to shape our newest version of our rules. We encourage users to communicate with us sooner rather than later so that we can mitigate similar misunderstandings in the future.

We welcome any feedback or typos regarding our rules in the comments. If you have any further questions, please contact us by modmail.

Quin69 on Zizaran having to pay 13.000 Dollars for his Gauntlet League and GGG's recent profits

    Posted: 22 Mar 2021 07:29 AM PDT

I would gladly accept a league with only QoL changes.

    Posted: 22 Mar 2021 08:25 AM PDT

Past couple leagues have been huge content for the game that were cool and I liked the premises of, but quite frankly, I would always end up in the same grind every league - red tier maps.

It's where I get to chill, relax, respond to trades, and play the game at the rate I want to without having to think too much. But without things like Auto Stacking Currency Shards, or how sometimes when I click an item it'll send me 20 ft away from where I clicked, or when I accidentally pick up an item that wasn't showing on my filter but was glowing on the ground, etc., even this relaxing place can be frustrating at times.

I don't really need the QoL and I'll still keep playing PoE, but I sure as heck would stay logged on longer everyday if my grind was made more comfy. Affinities alone made me stick around for much longer. If a whole league was around this premise, I'd be grinding away happily everyday of the league.

    Death's Oath

    Posted: 22 Mar 2021 05:05 AM PDT

In the past Death's Oath was a build enabling item that allowed for a unique style of play. Since then, the game has seen universal buffs on monster HP but this item has remained the same. I was hoping to get this item some attention from GGG. A buff to its damage would be enough to put this item in a place where it's a viable build choice again.

Can GGG improve their leaderboard lists so that more characters can show up on poe.ninja?

    Posted: 22 Mar 2021 12:25 PM PDT

Yeah I know, we're 2 months into league but right now only level 99-100 characters show up poe.ninja builds. Imo the minimum level cap should never go below level 95. Would be pretty nice to see more build diversity being showcased there.

    Ritual was a nice league

    Posted: 22 Mar 2021 06:17 AM PDT

From a beginner viewpoint, since I am playing since heist only, Ritual was very friendly.

I managed to grab a dozen or two of exalts through Rituals and I play only at weekends.

Not mind blowing but has enabled me to experiment a little bit and have fun, I can only expect next patch is similar to this

Alright hear me out. In POE there is a huge missed opportunity in the Lunaris Temple.

When you first encounter the Lunaris Temple in Act 3 you find big bad Mr Kole. The second time around... nothing.
