Poison scourge arrow with ward stacking is very strong

    Posted: 20 Aug 2021 04:49 PM PDT

Long time scourge arrow fan sharing what I think is the strongest poison scourge arrow SC build I've ever played, here's a pastebin.

    https://pastebin.com/zSVw1FZ2

    PoB details:
    - endurance and frenzy charges come from weapon swapping with a +2 min frenz/endu charge shield, instantly swap back to bow and you keep those charges for their duration (not as janky as it sounds as weapon swapping is instant)
    - Pathfinder with solid investment into charge generation etc = extremely good flask uptime
    - Hinder/blind are from clusters
    - Wither isn't from the gem, that's only there so I can config it properly, the wither comes from clusters + the glorious vanity jewel, 7 stacks is probably conservative

    Offensive details:
    - The DPS number we care about is thorn arrows on 5 stacks, I believe PoB shows numbers representing a single thorn arrow hitting your target hence the scaler I applied as in reality hitting an arrow from each pod isn't hard with anomalous scourge arrow
    - After a full poison duration of ramping you will reach the DPS shown in PoB, and this seems to translate accurately into the game as I was expecting to do roughly 3-4x the damage of my SST bleed build and that is exactly what it felt like
    - The PoB DPS is not including my helmet's focus modifier which has +180% ailment duration during focus, in practice this is a massive dps button on big bosses where you get to properly ramp your poisons
    - You can proc your mirage archer clearing scourge set up on bosses whilst attacking with your main non mirage archer scourge, this is some bonus damage for free
    - All in all its absolutely incredible DPS when considering its dot damage that is being applied by a skill with offscreen coverage

    Defensive details:
    - Acro and phase acro
    - Divine flesh
    - IC (can easily weapon swap to get your endurance charges back when you see IC proc)
    - Enfeeble
    - Wind Dancer
    - Aspect of the spider
    - Blind
    - Arctic armor (freeze immune)
    - Vaal grace
    - Juiced up Taste of Hate + massive instant life flask + other flasks
    - Ward (behaves like an extra wind dancer)

Despite being 4k life, it is not a squishy build. You basically won't die in maps, there are too many layers for normal map bosses and mobs to get through, especially considering off screen proliferating clear. Bossing is where you will need some mechanical skill to avoid one shot abilities, but even here you aren't that squishy, I've done uber elder / maven / sirus9 all deathless and UAtziri almost deathless but I'm bad at that fight.

    Ward Mechanics
Ward carries the offensive side of this build. With well rolled ward flasks, a 100% increased global defences chest, a nice ward helmet and some nice ward boots you will have 3k+ ward. 25% of that is added as chaos damage, and 25% of that is used for defence too. This does mean that your ward flask uptime is very important for your DPS, but this isn't a problem with enough flask investment.

    Investment
It can be done cheap, but my version isn't. I put a fair bit of monies into what I have right now. A budget version would make some changes such as:
    - No helm enchant
    - No veiled ailment duration helmet mod (this requires prefix locking + veiled chaos and it's not guaranteed)
    - No auls uprising which means you lose arctic armor and aspect of the spider
    - Probably a drillneck or maloney's nightfall quiver
    - No extra curse on the defences chest (you have to hunter orb slam this), replace with whispers of doom annoint which means you lose dirty techniques damage
    - No onslaught or fancy boot mods
    - Might be hard to get a good belt with inc flask charges
    - Faster ailment damage watchers eye instead of dot multi (or no watcher's eye)
    - Cluster's aren't too expensive so that should remain similar

In the end a budget version should be able to still be quite survivable for all content, only lacking spider slows and arctic armor freeze immune. Damage wise I think you should be able to reach 4-5 mill without breaking the bank, which is great for dot dps. Ward gear is very easy to roll with dense fossils so hitting the ward targets is not hard.

Overall I rate the build very highly, I'd say its only weak point is the conditional nature of many of the defences and hence I doubt the build would work well in HC, however for 95% of your time in SC you will actually feel rather tanky, I say this after playing SST bleed glad with capped block and life on block. If your a long time scourge lover you need to try this version of the build, having more fun with it than I did with alberons strength stacking.

Lightning Strike Raider: Not Really a Guide

    Posted: 20 Aug 2021 09:41 PM PDT

First off, credit to FuzzyDuckzy on Youtube. I copied a lot of what he did and his build inspired me to try this. Have been playing since Warbands, and have never written a guide, and don't really intend to start now, but a lot of people asked me about my LS Raider, so I just want to consolidate the information in one place. This is not going to be very informative for new players, so I apologize for that, but again, I don't really write guides or care to start.

When checking your LS dps, make sure to add together the Melee Hit and then the Projectiles. You get a lot more damage with Vaal LS up, which is pretty frequent (every stage with A9).

Pros:-Super fast mapping-Really tanky with dodge/evasion, especially once you get Elusive boots-Surprisingly good DPS. Did A8 on 20ex. Upgraded and out about 60ex total the version on the PoB. Did the feared with one death (my fault), A9 deathless, the Formed deathless, Maven deathless.

Cons:-LS can't bypass terrain. Can be annoying.-Prone to one-shots since it's dodge/evasion and 5300 life, but honestly, I leveled to 97 and rarely died. Usually deaths were my fault.

    PoB: https://pastebin.com/a8GmbTpE

Claw: Buy a fractured base with good crit chance or attack speed on either Imperial or Noble. Essence Spam with Wrath Essences until you hit a good attack speed or crit roll (whatever your fracture isn't). Craft Ele Pen if you have an open prefix.

Shield: Can just buy one cheap. Need at least 20% chance to avoid ailments

Helmet: Definitely get the enchant, or take pierce on the tree. Doesn't have to be a Blizzard Crown, since it's expensive.

Body Armour: Awakener Orb Power Charge on Crit and Attack Crit. If you can't afford it, just get attack crit, and replace the large cluster with one that has Stormrider for Power Charge generation.

Gloves: +1 Frenzy is pretty min-max, but you absolutely want strike skills target an additional enemy.

Boots: We get Elusive because of Nightblade, so can just get tailwind. Otherwise, get rare boots with life/res and no tailwind.

Amulet: Definitely crit multi and life. Fill out attributes/res you need, and try to get flat lightning damage to attacks.

Rings: Mark of the Elder and a Shaper ring with Assassin's Mark on Hit.

Belt: Anything with good Ele damage to attacks and life. Fill out any strength and res you need here.

Jewels: Anger Watcher's Eye is a lot of crit Multi and they're less than 2ex. Pretty good for the build. You can also run Wrath/HoT for more DPS instead of Anger/HoI and then use a Crit Chance or Pen Wrath Watcher's Eye (depending on if you need crit), but I like the shatters.

Lethal Pride: Look for Intimidate on hit, double damage, crit multi, etc.

Large Cluster: If you don't have Power Charge on your chest, get one with Stormrider, Prismatic Heart, and Disorienting Display. Can drop one of Prismatic/Disorienting if they're took expensive.

Edit: If you are starting out on a smaller budget and your crit is really low (lower than 70-75% with charges up, switch out Inspiration for Increased Crit Chance)

Comprehensive guide on Monster damage and how to identify monsters that have high damage potential - Gauntlet edition

    Posted: 20 Aug 2021 09:41 AM PDT

Hello I'm Jay and I'm an avid HCSSF player who will be participating in gauntlet this league again. As I'm making my build I see what I'm prioritizing and I wanted to explain some basics on which I base my builds.

You alway wondered why Gauntlet is so damn rippy? The mods sound like usual rare map that I run all the time. Why does baran one-shots with extra damage mods? What is it you should really prioritize in your builds?

I see a lot of players struggling to understand monster damage and I'd like to give you some insight in what is in my opinion the most dangerous thing in PoE as it can easily quadruple the damage a mob can do to you (it should REALLY scare you). I hope you stay a while and I also hope you will be just as scared as me after reading this post and maybe think about elemental mitigation. This post will NOT show you how to build defense against ele but shows a dire need for it and why you should build around it.

It is Damage conversion. This is especially important for gauntlet modifiers, as the example is equivalent most of the time to the pure gauntlet damage mods. Most people don't even flinch when they see a map with:

20% increased monster damage 90% of physical damage added as fire

But that thing... it scares me! Because on content where there was/is no map mod system, bosses actually have very high base physical damage (as it was never balanced around mods!) This includes Oshabi, Sirus, baran, act bosses and even a lot of usual campaign monsters. This is apparent because conversion monsters in maps are balanced with low base physical damage but a large more multiplier to compensate for dealing elemental damage (see Primal Crushclaw which has 200% more on default attack because it converts. This dodges this issue of spike damage.) This is bullshit - Primal crushclaws deal insane damage anyways :D

What if I told you that these mods alone can lead to a monster dealing 128% more damage to you than in normal PoE?

Let's do some math (bare with me): Let's assume we have a monster that always deals 1000 damage to us without any mods. We don't have any physical mitigation on our part (for the sake of argument) and calculate with 75% elemental resistances. Now imagine that monster deals:

    • a) pure ele damage (fireball, ice spear...) (4000 base elemental damage)
    • b) pure physical damage (Auto attack, Ethereal Knifes...) (1000 base physical damage)
    • c) A physical spell 50% converted to an element (Al-Hezmin, various skill gems used by monsters...) (1600 base physical damage)
    • d) A physical spell 75% converted to an element (Sirus, Baran...) (2285 base physical damage)
    • e) A physical spell 100% converted to an element (Oshabi...) (4000 base physical damage)

In the gauntlet environment these cases would be as follows:

    a) is straight forward: Enemy shoots 4000 ele damage and gets 20% increased damage applied to it (which makes it 4400). After resists we receive 1200 damage, which is (to everyones suprise) 20% increased damage.

    b) the "90% of physical damage added as fire" also effects this case. Damage will be first added as fire and then the 20% increased. This will lead to 1200 physical 1080 elemental damage. After resistances together it's 1470 damage to us - 47% damage increase.

    c) now it gets tricky. As you see I made the phys base damage for conversion spells is much higher on bosses. This is due how they are balanced. Spells/Attacks with conversion have to have much more base physical damage to inflict the same damage to the player. This high base phys value increases the effectiveness of the > 90% of physical damage added as fire modifier greatly. Without much further math this case will result in 63.3% more damage to you!

    d) see c) just more bonkers. Due to higher base phys of these monsters these abilities do 82% more damage to you!

    e) Yeah oshabi was never designed to have mods, she has a whoopping 128% damage increase, if there are other monsters please tell me I'd like to know what to dodge. (Also if there is a table for all conversion monsters I'd like to know)

After these cases you should be scared of ANYTHING that gets added on top. For example rares with 75% damage conversion and a subphys aura plus a crit? That's more than triple the damage! Crit also only excerbates the damage spikiness. A powerful crit monster will deal double damage on a crit, so case e) would actually result in 256% increased damage.

Surviving in PoE was always a "pick your battle" situation but in a gauntlet environment it's more about KNOWING HOW TO REDUCE DAMAGE SPIKES. That means looking at poedb which mosters do have large physical base damage (bosses, monster in acts) and act accordingly.

It's also useful to know which spells are generally elemental damage only and which are physical based spells. Often this can be deduced by looking at the monster skill and asking yourself "Which skill gem MTX is this monster using". If it looks like bladefall it is bladefall.

I hope you learned a bit about why physical damage added as X modifiers are enormously deadly in the wrong situations. Now the best tools against these spikes in gauntlet? SLOW acts, no damage mods on maps and build more elemental defense (which sadly is pretty rare). Safffels is your best friend!

Thanks for making it so far and I hope I animated a few people to have some fear against monsters again :)

    Resources for calculations and monsters:

    https://poedb.tw/us/Monsters

    https://pathofexile.fandom.com/wiki/Receiving_damage

TL;DR: Acts and bosses are very very scary because they didn't have mods from the start (and weren't balanced around it) and can do up to 128% more damage to you in a gauntlet environment.

~17M per spell cast on Sirus on a non-meta build that I couldn't play last league.

    Posted: 20 Aug 2021 09:56 PM PDT

Hear me out. Last league, I was interested to play my version of Jungroan's Fire Reap Assassin. It uses Unleash and Awakened Spell Cascade to do massive dps burst and in my version, I decided to go with dodge.

Reason why I couldn't have played it last league is because of awakened gem prices. Awakened Spell cascade is pretty much the build enabler for this build in conjunction with 5 unleash seals. So in a cast, you can hit a boss 24 times (because of repeats and overlaps) with Reap at max blood charges.

I bought the gem for less than 2ex this league when I'm sure it was insanely priced last league. (Forgot the number but I sure didn't have enough for that gem).

Tldr. Awakened Spell cascade dropped in price which made me capable of playing one of my strongest characters ever.

I know it's not fully optimized but: https://pastebin.com/qPrR4bhb

I would like to play Boneshatter

    Posted: 21 Aug 2021 12:09 AM PDT

I have tried to get into PoE roughly 4 times, I think. In Perandus, then Abyss, then Legion, and now. Previously, the farthest I had gotten was act 3. Combat felt kinda mashy and monotonous, and nothing ever felt like it posed a threat.

I'm not sure exactly why, but this time I pushed through all the way to the epilogue with a Duelist SST Bleed max block build I got from poebuilds.cc. And... when I got to maps, I was kind of disappointed by the lack of decisionmaking in moment-to-moment gameplay. Maybe I should have known ahead of time, but just getting there was honestly a lil overwhelming with all the overlapping league mechanics that all think they're the main character.

So I want to roll another character. I already started levelling a Marauder (he's at level 10 and I haven't allocated any passives lol). Boneshatter seems interesting because I like playing pain for gain builds in video games, but it's so new that there aren't any guides for it. How can I construct a plan to build around it? Does anybody have a Path of Building file available? I would really appreciate advice!

    Thank you!

    Spellslinger gladiator

    Posted: 20 Aug 2021 08:54 PM PDT

Hey guys, i was watching ziz and mathil talking with chris and at one point they talked about block builds, and at another they talked about spellslinger. So I said, I'm going to theory craft something again that I've looked at before but never finished: a spellslinger gladiator. I started off with bladefall/bladeblasts, but i always come back around to VD. What I theory crafted is pretty vanilla, but 200K dps vs sirus (which i don't really plan to reach with this guy.) Looking for places to improve it but there are a few things I'm holding firm on:

    1. max block, at least over 75%
    2. spellslinger.

Tanky build using this kind of weapon

Rog just gave me this sword and I'm not sure if its worth selling or making a build around it. Such sword seems to go for about 3-4 ex, which seems too low.

Can you recommend tanky build that can put the sword to good use. I prefer playing tanky Duelist ascendancy. Aside from the sword, have about 10 ex to spare.

SST Raider, or lightning strike. 70 ex budget. Must be able to do bosses.

    Posted: 20 Aug 2021 11:37 PM PDT

So yeah, the entire goal is to spend 70 ex (sell it later)

And then farm 200 ex for a 5way farmer.

Now when I say it must be able to be a bosser.. I mean either kill them fast, or be even DECENTLY tanky.

It's a toss up, they both use herald of ice which makes me a huge fan already.

    Craiceann's Carapace Mana Reservation Question

    Posted: 20 Aug 2021 11:31 PM PDT

Short and sweet question: where are these Craiceann's Carapace builds on poe.ninja getting the mana reservation to use Craiceann's Carapace's reserve aura?

https://poe.ninja/challenge/builds/char/bigzaa1995/_%E0%B8%8A%E0%B8%AD%E0%B8%9A%E0%B8%AB%E0%B8%B5_?i=4&search=allskill%3DShield-CrushHas 95% mana res from gems, not counting the chest

    https://poe.ninja/challenge/builds/char/waslawCB/wwpss?i=8&search=allskill%3DShield-Crush

Similar, has 95% mana res but from different gems, before the carapace res

Is there a mechanic to this chest's aura that I'm not understanding? Or is literally just every General's Cry build using it for the bleed immune and disregarding the chest's aura?

I'm hitting a wall with my builds...need help

    Posted: 21 Aug 2021 03:00 AM PDT

3.15 has been just too much for my build making skills. I've been trying to make one interesting concept work with no success....it just always falls flat on damage.

The idea was a perma-berserk cyclone char, using Chains of Emancipation, Rotblood Promise with Temp Chains socketed, a flask of warding (can Diamond flask roll Surgeon's prefix again now?) and Watcher's eye with "gain flask charge on dealing critical strike when affected by precision" to maintain the Berserk all the time, even on bosses.

I chose Cyclone specifically for smooth mapping and general feel, at least for me, plus the attack speed is beneficial for maintaining charges this way. Goals were:

    over 1M practical sDPS

decent defenses:5.5 to 6k life (or life+ES if there is ES sustain), fortify+berserk+3EC for physical reduction, about 80%+ attack block/dodge/evasion layer

budget: 10-15 ex, a bit more if the build can use my 6L Belly.

I tried several approaches and classes, couldn't work anything out.

[3.15] Mana stacking, Storm Brand, Ivory Tower hiero

    Posted: 20 Aug 2021 11:07 AM PDT

    Hello!

I've decided to share a build that I've played this league, as I did not saw it on poe.ninja, yet I was able to do low-endgame stuff with it (Maven, Shaper, Elder, T16). I guess this build is capable of doing higher tier content too, I just topped on Maven as she was my goal for this league (first kill ever).

    https://pastebin.com/6UT6zDwY

    key points:

    - 7/10 items are unique - no SSF friendly, easy to complete in trade.

    - build should work also with other spells - uniques are not related to storm brand / lightning spells

    - I am casual and I play to beat the content. I am not "farming" in a sense that I am not repeating content just to gain currency. Build is IMO smooth to play, but I doubt it's meta, S tier, efficient one

    - I'm not the first person who plays this combination, yet it seems to be under the radar

    - character is lvl 91, items are decent, but not min-maxed. It's a snapshot of what I've built, not theorycrafting.

-PoB is rather realistic, you may click some buttons like "Last 25% of attached duration" or increase Sigil of Power stages to 4 if you want double/triple the dps number ;)

    - sorry for a low effort post, I'm not a content creator, just wanted to share something that worked, as I gained a lot from lurking in this thread.

Any recommendation?
