    The simple followup question that isn't being asked during interviews with Chris

    Something I am disappointed with (no offense) in the interviews so far is not asking a simple followup/clarifying question. This can be applied to numerous topics as seen below:

    "If you want to change X, and by your own words you are contemplating/figuring/researching/testing/don't have solutions for this, why did you change X NOW? Because until you DO have any of those, X just feels bad/is impossible/doesn't work/creates other issues."

    • He keeps discussing how it's necessary to nerf Harvest/keep certain crafts at a rarity level that people think they don't exist/Mathil hasn't found one in the quantity of hours he plays etc. because he wants us to find items at are improvements merely by drops. Yet, smart loot doesn't exist and we all filter out 90%+ of items because they are bad. *insert Talisman meme here* The best items are most certainly crafted and to wish things being differently with how mechanics currently are is pipe dream. Not only that, this is being brought to you by the creators of Awakener Orb and Maven Orb.
    • It's clear ailment immunity was a target this league. It was removed altogether from a few ascendancies in addition to the flask nerfs (reworked already). He talks about adding points to invest in on the tree for this (specifically mentioned bleed and poison) but .... where are they? I'm reminded of the South Park episode with George R.R. Martin regarding the dragons: "Oh they're coming! They're on their way! You really want to know when? *proceeds to monologue*" I'm not sure if the plan is for us to generally not be able to be immune or what. That should be asked. The top of the tree has Annointed flesh cluster which gives 50% REDUCED DURATION for 5 points assuming you are pathing by it. Or Elemental Focus + Arcane Swiftness give 30% AILMENT AVOIDANCE. These don't work together. So it's just Raider + Crystal Skin wheel? Or Sabo + Dream Fragments? Early game not having access to freeze immunity is just trash... this is longer than I meant it to be.
    • Boss drops. Was it 3.13 when GGG touted boss killing was back with improved drops and everyone was pumped? Then, we saw that Kitava just dropped a couple more rare items that are garbage tier and.... see bullet #1.
    • It is also clear that flasks were a target this league. Their power was collectively nerfed, some into the ground. RIP Basalt Flask. If this is what is needed, as too much power was "bottled up" (see what I did there?) in that mechanic, what alternative/solution was provided to account for that? Were defensive nodes/interactions/calculations improved? Were mobs slowed down/toned down?

    We keep getting answers like "Well in Hard Mode..." and "that's something we are looking into" and "we hear you" and "we are working on that" and "that is coming, but not this or next patch" *insert George RR Martin again*, but in the meantime all that's happened is certain things have been taken away/removed/made impossible.

    Also, it was painful to watch Ziz ask an important question, frame it well, then Chris just disregard it and effectively monologue reading an email that he liked. Which, just said exactly what Ziz clarified already, just with more/bigger words.

    Hello, everyone!

    My notes for the Baeclast Episode were generally well received, so I wanted to follow up with posting them for the Ziz/Mathil/Chris Cast which happened this week! It puts a smile on my face to know a resource I've generated to aid my own understanding has also been useful for others!     What is the purpose of Maven invitiation PER region if I am required to show Maven 10 boss kills per region anyway?

    Seems so artificially complicated - just only so we have to juggle with different Maven Invitations. There is NO purpose of them being per specific region if we are per Maven progression design required her to witness 10 boss kills under same region.

    To depict absurdity of it - I just have two regions at 10/10 but no Maven Invitation for that region while for some other regions I have 3+ of them in surplus.

    It is such a nonsense.

    What am I now supposed to do? Trade my surplus ones to other and buy the appropriate ones for me? Why yo do this to us, GGG?! Is that your definition of fun? Or challenge?

    Expedition feedback - Keep the green highlight even when V key is not pressed after explosive being placed

    As an anti-3.15 I was reading about the recent podcast and especially about build diversity. I tried to assimilate the handsome climber (Mathil) stances and asked myself 'why am I unable to enjoy the game as he is ?' I quickly found a very simple answer (beside that I am not the godgamer he is) : the success of Starter builds plays an immense importance in my enjoyment of a league because I do not, ever, invest myself in more than 3/4 builds per league.

    The obvious thing is, you do not start a league with ressources. It means that you NEED to pick your starter carefully. Even the handsome climber do it.

    I've listen to many content creator saying that they rerolled multiple times. Later in the league I've seen different fun working builds. I get it guys, all I need is to reroll until farming with my starter feels good and then I'll be able to invest in something fun.

    I won't do that tho. Because I do not want. So I quit. As do my friends. But I love the game. So I will try to share how I feel about it without caring if it makes me a 'dumb stupid idiotic redditor lol'.

    I did post a worry about build diversity just after the 3.15 balance manifesto. It got just a bit of visibility. Some agreed, some asked how I could complain even before the league started. Once again, if I express myself it's not to shit on things but to try, with some of you, to participate in a review. After the league started I thought that I wasn't far from pointing something interesting with this post. But the handsome climber and the amazing bald (Chris) successfully teached me that I was wrong.

    Build diversity is cool. Starter build diversity isn't

    I realy miss the official POE "build of the week" series from the past, where GGG represented some creative, fun, new & mostly non meta builds every week with a cool & short showcase videos.

    I would realy love if GGG bring this series back (Or somone from the community make such a series every week, I would insta subscribe this channel).

    I have multiple portal effects mtx, some from league challenges and some I bought. I like them all but with certain characters I want to see a rotation of a select few and a different rotation of a different few. Could we get a simple whitelist/blacklist system to enable a few for a rotation. There's already a per-character selection of random, 1-specific, and random on each.

    Why does Chris think the 3.11 to 3.13 levels of gear progression will kill the game? And is he wrong?

    From watching the two podcasts with Chris most things he's come out in defence of have made sense to me. But one thing I can't wrap my head around is when Chris says the rate if item progression in the harvest era would kill the game and people would stop playing.

    He sums this up at one point with something along the lines of "people think they want good items, they don't".

    I'm struggling to see why he's so set on this view.

    Those leagues had some of the best retention and for me personally had the most hours invested. Even playing a 20+ hours a week it took my weeks to complete a character by my standards and the gear was still a long long way from perfect.

    And even when I was done with my char, I was having so much fun I just rolled new ones.

    I'm just a bit lost because he is adamant in saying those things will make you quit, but they genuinely made me want to play more.

    Just for some context I don't consider myself a great player but I'm not super casual. I didn't play this league but usually get to maps on ~6 hours on league start, make 50+ex most leagues and have killed every boss in the game.

    Can someone explain this to me?

    Edit: Thanks everyone for the great responses. Lots here I've not considered. I don't think I'm in love with the game right now but I'm going to trust Chris's vision and hopefully if he and the team get the game there I can love it once again.

    Time and time again we hear Chris brings out an argument how in Magic you open a pack and there's a chance that is super valuable card will be in there and that is the chase he is after.

     

    This analogy is quite different at the core.

     

    In MtG, you get to choose which booster pack you buy and you know which cards belong to that set.

     

    So when he is opening a pack and there is a chance to get a super rare item, he is essentially fighting Kaom and there is a chance it could have Kaom's heart.

    Rejuvenation Totem (along with Searing Bond) has got to be the most under-used totem skill, by a far margin (and at least Searing Bond was changed to allow it to function as a free extra totem). Even Devouring Totem is occasionally used for corpse removal in Acton's Nightmare. So given the similarity of their purposes (both help you to tank encounters), do ya'll think it'd be a good change to just combine it with Decoy Totem to have an all-round totembro that both taunts and heals you (maybe at a reduced amount to preserve balance)?

    Alternately, maybe combine it with Devouring Totem so it has both a general heal aura as well as a 'super-heal' (including mana regen) if there are corpses around for it to consume. Thoughts?

    P.S.: Also shoutout to the other 2 never-used gems in the game - Conversion Trap and Chance to Flee.

    Totem build, clearing Vaal Temple no problem, go into bossfight, things are going great, nothing close to me, all of the sudden BAM I'm dead. No clue why. Figure it's a fluke of some kind, go back in, BAM I'm dead. I can't find anything telling me what killed me so I've got no clue what I need to do differently. Does that exist?

    If the goal for GGG is to make drops be where we get our gear from, bosses should drop rolled rares based on the type of damage they deal. This system could work similar to how the temple does now (but obviously not temple mods). This way a player could target farm a given boss/damage type for their build and feel like rare drops would mean something to them.
