    I wake up, it's a cloudy Saturday.

Make coffee, go straight to PoE. Press S: everybody is online. Go to discord, one friend is delving this league, the other did his fourth shaper. Had one Starforge drop already for high profits, selling Uber fragments on the side.

My best friend hits me up: "I got that augment crit craft you were looking for since Wednesday!" My heart skips a beat. I hand him my +1 minion +1 all spells, spell damage cast speed Wand, we both close our eyes click : t3 crit multi. Screams of joy, my first Dark Pact Wand is as done as I can reasonably want it.

This League I am farming A9 Sirus for profit. Awakened gems in high demand, a Saviour is a jackpot, legends has it one could get awakened multistrike, too. If I drop awakened chain, I will keep it for myself it's the best gem for my build. I am flying through maps with my wand, meet my first conqueror, destroy him noticeably faster. Queue dopamine.

Suddenly a cramp in the calve. I wake up. It's a lazy Sunday. My stomach turns. Go, make coffee - straight to PoE Reddit. New message: Mods have removed my popular post. They deemed it low effort/quality but they leave Scooby-Doo memes in. They don't want to read what I have to say, so they remove it for everyone. I log into PoE, press S: everyone is offline. GGG doesn't want to have a good endgame and performing party-play in their game, so they removed everyone.

My throat sores up a bit as I close the game.

I look up: GGG's Vision looks down at me. My future is not where my dream is.

    Leaked item from 3.16 league...

    Posted: 01 Aug 2021 06:45 AM PDT

Pain of Exile or I surrender GGG, you win

    Posted: 01 Aug 2021 01:56 AM PDT

I've played PoE ever since legacy league and I usually play for around 2 months. I have quite good knowledge of the game and understand the game mechanics pretty well, which allowed me to be a "one percenter" for quite a while now.
However, I do not like to be a meta slave and I usually prefer builds, which I create on my own and/or pick up from some five-head dude on poe ninja, which is actually interesting to play. I play those type of builds not necessarily to be efficient(cuz I mostly make money by crafting/flipping), but to enjoy the game in non-trivial ways.
PoE is the only game that I play and I had serious doubts about 3.15 ever since its reveal pretty much. I forced myself to play the game for over a week now despite all the countless things that I did not like. Just now I finally realized that I cannot continue anymore, the game is just too frustrating, too stressful to play at its current state. I guess if you wanted to go for spectral shield throw, forbidden rite totem or minions, the game would feel a bit more forgiving, but I personally do not like mainstream builds, whereas now I feel like GGG forces players to play a handful of builds or else you suffer.
There is no enjoyment, there is no chase, there are no goals. There is just grind of things you already achieved in previous leagues with less rewards, way more time investment and extreme amounts of pain.
Also, I'd like to address the whole player power creep thing. To me it sounds like that popular opinion of a cool kid who says it and everyone else agrees without even thinking about it and is even afraid of disagreeing for a backlash. I do not know why exactly GGG & CW think of player power creep as the public enemy number one, but I feel like the majority of the players enjoyed the game when the power creep was at its highest - 3.13 Ritual League and even those who are currently saying player power creep kills the game and so on.
If you were stressed out by player power creep, I guess you had to take a closer look at aurabots. My whole guild of ~40 people quit the game except for 3 guys, who play in a group of aurabot and they've casually farmed a shit ton of currency without any hurdle.
So basically, you either have to play in a group(don't you guys have friends?!) or play one of the handful of meta builds, or else suffer.

To finish off, I'm really sad that I'm forced to not play the game I love, however if you enjoy feel like the game is in a good state and you agree with the direction that the game is going, then more power to you I guess. As for me, I'd rather find another game after I finish my workday, which would allow me to chill and have fun, rather than stress me out.

What is the point of haggling with Tujen if he never goes below 50% and always gives you the item around 60%?

    Posted: 01 Aug 2021 12:07 PM PDT

Of the couple hundred things I've haggled for, not once has he ever given me the item anywhere below 50% the original cost. I know that he's going to give it to me at around 50%-60% but I still have to reset the god damn slider to that mark, what, 4-6 times before he gives it to me?

    Really dumb.

How PoE is basically only game with gambling boxes not banned in countries like Belgium or Netherland?

    Posted: 01 Aug 2021 04:12 AM PDT

basically topic ^ - just curious.

I can't think of any other game with similar RNG boxes that is not banned in those countries. I'm just wondering because certain game that doesn't have such gambling based loot boxes still for some reason isn't released in Belgium and Netherlands due to those regulations - but somehow PoE whale boxes are totally fine.

PS: I'm not aiming here to ban PoE in Belgium and Netherlands, so don't even start with such accusations ;)

GGG, why don't you survey and poll your players?

    Posted: 01 Aug 2021 02:36 AM PDT

Genuine question, I haven't seen it answered before and I've seen it asked on this sub so I know others are curious as well.

Is there a reason why you don't survey players? Has it been considered before? As a company do you have a stance on it at all?

Also, before people start commenting about how surveys don't provide the whole picture and shouldn't be used to make decisions off alone, I agree with you already. Surveys should take into account other metrics such as play time, play style, date joined, average retention in a league, how many characters, maximum levels, etc. before sending an email/link to the account which they have the metrics for and the answers on the survey should be tied to that account. GGG already have access to player metric data and make balance decisions based off it I'm assuming. Surveys (that are supported by the user's metrics) provide a valuable array of data to use in the design of a product and it just makes me wonder why GGG just doesn't use it, that is all.

Path of Exile and 3.15 - A bad player's perspective

    Posted: 01 Aug 2021 08:17 AM PDT

I have approximately 2000 hours in PoE. I am pretty sure I started playing during Harbinger league. Abyss was the first league I played on launch day. I am aware that in the long history of the game, my experience is very limited. I also know that I am an overall bad player of PoE. I know this because I have fought the Shaper twice, and beat him once. I have never even been close to encountering the Elder. Every league I still see a message of someone reaching some area in the first two days of a league first, and I have to look at the wiki to find out what this mystery place I've never heard of is. Ultimatum league was the first time I had ever fought Sirus. I fought him a total of 3 times, and got my ass handed to me each time.

I am giving this context because I know that a lot of my opinions are probably going to be hot garbage, limited in perspective, or perhaps just downright untrue because of some part of the game I just haven't come across yet. Please feel free to correct me in the comments, or provide some links or advice on things I get wrong.

    PoE As a Whole

    Loot and Progression
When it comes to arpgs, my preferred way of progression is exploration and killing monsters to gain loot/currency. One of the things I appreciate about PoE is the amount of ways it gives you to obtain gear and currency. The vendor recipes, crafting, and open trading are all great. Personally though, I hate taking the time to pick up gear to use towards the chaos or exalted shard recipes. It slows me down, and I hate having to sift through my stash to locate and filter out gear. I have never once attempted to fully craft an item because of how expensive and complex it is. I just don't like taking time to try and do all of that. I like killing things and finding the gear, or killing things and finding the currency. Then hopping on PoE trade to buy what I can afford. The only problem with this is that it feels like killing monsters for loot is probably the least efficient/effective way to obtain what you need in PoE. I have maybe picked up in my 2000 hours of PoE ~15 exalts across all of the leagues. I have never had a chance to even come close to owning one of the (former) true end game chase items like headhunter. There is probably some good method to acquiring loot/currency through killing things and I just haven't come across them yet, but I feel like in any game, I should be able to explore enough and find those areas. I shouldn't need to do outside research or watch 2 hour youtube videos on crafting processes to make currency. When it starts getting to that point, it starts feeling more tedious than it's worth for me.

    Complexity
Can a game be too complex? I think so, and PoE is the gold standard example of this. I have never created my own build. The thought of planning through the skill tree just gives me a headache. I always end up looking up a build around a skill gem that sounds interesting to me, and running with it. Again, the crafting system, while great for some, seems far too complex for someone who just wants to be able to kill shitty little koalas dropping from the ceilings of caves. The Atlas, while a really cool end game mechanic, again is far too crazy in its current state. I came across The Envoy for the first time in Ultimatum, and was just confused. Then the Maven started showing up, and then there were more skill trees? It took me way too long to figure out that some areas of the atlas are better to upgrade than others for specific goals, that there are way better points in Maven's trees than others, and that the shaper influence is no longer something that just appears. Again, I want to play. I don't want to spend time looking at a point tree, and looking up what's better to put points in. I don't want to spend time thinking about what monsters I want Maven to watch me fight so I don't make her encounters too hard. I don't remember which bosses are at the end of each map. PoE's complexity is great for those who enjoy it, and that's wonderful. I just wish that those who didn't could enjoy the end game to the same degree with the same amount of success.

    Boss Disparity
This is probably one of the single biggest issues I have with the game. Again, I fought Sirus for the first time in Ultimatum league. The main reason for the this, is because the Ultimatum mechanic gave me a great way to gain currency by killing monsters. This allowed me to make my most powerful build I've ever done because I could afford halfway decent gear. I realize I am probably in the minority as far as enjoying Ultimatum, but that's beside the point. When I fought Sirus for the first time, I died quickly. I wasn't prepared for the mechanics of his fight. So I decided the second time to be less spammy with my bladefall/blade blasting, and try to learn what he does. Then I got one shot when he was throwing things at me. I resigned myself to watching a video on the fight. Sirus does have some cool and unique mechanics, which on the surface is great. But, it also made me realize something. I am of the belief that a game should try and teach the player as much as possible throughout it's game play. It should prepare you for things you will encounter later in possibly a larger degree. In some ways, PoE does do this, but I truly believe that the campaign and map bosses do very little to prepare you for what the end game bosses end up being. There is such a large gap in strength and mechanics that it can almost feel genuinely shocking the first time you fight the Shaper or Sirus (I haven't fought the other end game bosses so I'm not going to try and comment on them). I feel like the game should try and include more of the mechanics of the end game bosses throughout the leveling experience so that while the mechanics of those bosses might be stronger, or require a faster reaction time, you at least understand how they work and can reasonably react.

    Visuals
I love the way PoE looks. I love the skills, and how they (mostly) feel genuinely unique and have cool effects. What's frustrating though is that the mid to end game of PoE is a light show. The skills and chaos on screen really makes it hard to tell if I have bleed, or if Sirus' maze is up, or if some monster behind is getting ready to tap my shoulder and render me unconscious. This obviously leads to a lot of frustration. Unfortunately, I don't think this is fixable, because who doesn't want their skill to look awesome as it blows up a screen of screaming goatmen? I just wish there was a way to more easily distinguish certain things amidst the chaos. I know there are status indicators, but in a lot of cases, you don't really have time to look up at the screen and read across each one to see what negative effects you have before a projectile lands in your mouth and you're dead.

    3.15 - Expedition

Over the course of my time playing PoE, I have learned to adapt to what the game has required to, for the most part, survive. Including facerolling flasks, using movement skills a lot, and only having (exaggerating) 8 available mana thanks to auras. The problem with 3.15 is that all of the survival skills I have learned in my time playing have now gone out the window. I essentially have to relearn how to play the game. This has not been an easy process due to a lot of the issues I mentioned above. I am now unable to really get passed level 3 or 4 maps because I am just dying far too much. My frustration has already reached its breaking point a week into the league, and I am done. I can totally understand GGG wanting to tweak things to change it up and scale back the supposed monster that is power creep. But I feel like these changes should have either come one at a time, or much more scaled back in challenge at least at first. Give players a chance to adapt to one of these changes slowly so that they can more easily learn the newer way to play.

The last thing I want to talk about is difficulty and power creep. PoE is a huge game. There is a lot to the end game that I have even yet to see. So why does the campaign need to start being a challenge again? Difficulty should logically increase as you progress later into a game, so it's okay at this point for the campaign to be a walk in the park. Either that, or as I believe some other posts have pointed out, give us the option to level outside of the campaign. Power creep I feel like is unavoidable in games like this. Again, as you extend the game, things are supposed to get harder. As you add more content, bosses, monsters, items, they should feel powerful. You can argue that combating power creep with nerfs still does that for new content, and that's fair, but at the same time it makes the path to the new content that much more frustrating as people adapt.

GGG, I love your game. I love your passion, I love your creativity, and I love your devotion to your game. I really appreciate you still wanting to innovate on older mechanics and trying to make them more engaging with your players. I just feel like this could have been done better. Maybe slower, with more incremental changes. If my feedback means anything, which it doesn't, I would love some changes to allow those who just love getting out there and killing things to be able to reach even some of the same success as those who really take use of the game's crafting and vendor recipe system. I still stand by that ultimatum was great for those of us in that boat. I may be in the minority though, and that's okay.

note you'll also get false positives from "leat" and there wasn't enough room to include call of the brotherhood. if you see a two-stone ring just check it has cold and lightning resist.

    Posted: 31 Jul 2021 06:16 PM PDT

... or replace the current league mechanic in every zone and map with the mechanic of my choice ...(Like choosing to play a "legacy" league instead of the current one."

    Or both.

GGG, why should you care if I level exclusively in Delve and then swap over to playing "Betrayal legacy" if it keeps me around longer and buying that juicy MTX. I mean, isnt it the number one goal to retain me as long as possible and allow me to have fun?

I dont think there is one player that would complain if you provided other ways to level than running Act 1 to Act 10 for the 50th time. Nor would any player complain if they could replace the current league mechanic with one you already integrated into core, and even switch back or play others if they want.

What would the drawback be of more player agency? I know if I could level through Delve and/or do Betrayal (or Ritual) every zone as if it were main mechanic I would.

sigh The shit I have to go through just to do delve ...

EDIT: I would be ok with having to level your first character through the acts each league first before your other league characters get the option, even taking a 50% nerf in loot in delve if you arent say ... level 70 yet on your alternatively leveled alt?

EDIT 2: Great points in comments. Maybe cut the legacy league option off as a leveling "endless" option at level 70 so you are not replacing maps. My main goal is to not have to run Act 1 through 10 the 6 or 7 times I level new characters each league sometimes.
