Posted: 15 Aug 2021 12:27 AM PDT Lesson #5: Don't confuse "interesting" with "fun" This explains the relative "failure" of some leagues, Synthesis or (the initial) Bestiary being the prime example. While both seemed very interesting on paper, they were too tedious. Throwing nets or building the Synthesis paths was interesting, but that's were it ended. Lesson #11: If everyone likes your game but no one loves it, it will fail I hope both GGG and Reddit realize that if the game starts to cater to the lowest common denominator, it will quickly lose it's "soul." A very good product is always slightly controversial, or not for everybody. If PoE was an ice cream flavor, it certainly wouldn't be vanilla or chocolate and it shouldn't try to be. You shouldn't want it to be. Lesson #13: Make the fun part also the correct strategy to win The best way to play the game should be the most fun way to play. This is why I believe build diversity is not the end all be all, what is more important is that the best builds are the most fun builds. But even more so, the best end game strategies should be the most fun ones. Lesson #19: Your audience is good at recognizing problems and bad at solving them This is the one that I think is most important right now, because it tells both the community and GGG. GGG should listen to the community and take their concerns seriously, but they should absolutely not take their ideas on how to fix things seriously. These lessons are all taken from the excellent article https://magic.wizards.com/en/articles/archive/making-magic/twenty-years-twenty-lessons-part-1-2016-05-30 by Mark Rosewater, lead designer of Magic the Gathering. Zooming out a little more would help a lot with defenses. Posted: 15 Aug 2021 09:41 AM PDT I just notice while leveling that there are places that are more zoomed out and how much nicer it would be if we had a little more field of view, I know ultra wide helps but not enough... It would help a lot to dodge incoming bs if you're playing more squeshy builds. example: https://i.imgur.com/Vj0WzCD.mp4 [link] [comments]

Given current prices, it might not be a bad idea to double corrupt your Empowers/Enlightens Posted: 15 Aug 2021 09:43 AM PDT As someone who is looking for both an Empower and Enlighten lvl 4 this league, I was wondering whether it would make sense to use a Lapidary Lens from Doryani's Institute (Alva's temple) instead of a Vaal Orb based on cost efficiency to hit lvl 4. Seems silly at first glance because quality doesn't matter at all, but there may be some hidden potential for value here... TL;DR: You save upwards of 2.6ex on expected ilvl 4 costs by using double corrupts over vaal orbs, and you're also expected to save some currency over buying ilvl 4s from the market. This is dependent on a few probability assumptions that have floated around the community for quite a while. Prices are based on poe.ninja data/live searches. Empower prices:
Enlighten prices:
Cost of Chronicle of Atzoatl with Open Doryani's Institute: ~50c or ~0.4ex GET READY FOR MATH! This is where I make a few "generally accepted" assumptions on probabilities of vaals - if anyone has a well-documented source of vaal probabilities to flip this entire thing on its head, let me know! Method 1: Vaal Orb
Method 2: Double Corrupt
End Result:
Hopefully this doesn't pump up the prices of the economy - let's try to combat the shortage of these gems using statistics! Good luck on your gambles! [link] [comments]
Server providers for South-Africa Posted: 15 Aug 2021 09:21 AM PDT We really need servers in SA we all have 150+ping and playing hardcore is impossible. We have theses server providers that can host in SA:
Edited I really hope you can find a server provider for us we really been looking forward having servers in South-Africa for a while now. I know Chris said last time they check they could not find a decent provide. I really hope this time around it changed [link] [comments]

Posted: 15 Aug 2021 08:14 AM PDT It's somewhat understandable that Chris wants things to have value, value is determined how much people are willing to "bend down for it", arguments can be made if it's not worth it to you or it takes too much space just don't pick up etc etc. I'm not here to argue that. But for the love of god, I have an inventory full of splinters and currencies and everything, I'm standing in front of my stash with them, what else would I want to do than stashing them all. At this point I'm thinking about writing an AHK macro just to stash everything for me, personally I find it more annoying than all other issues people bring up. [link] [comments]

Why do you personally like PoE? Posted: 15 Aug 2021 08:18 AM PDT I've noticed a not uncommon opinion that people like PoE because it's not slow like it's competitors (Grim Dawn and Last Epoch). So I thought I'd say why I like PoE and leave an open ended question why you personally like PoE. The main reasons I like PoE are: - The passive tree. It's huge and all the classes share the same tree, giving rise to huge variation and nuance. 5 identical builds could end up pathing in different ways due to considerations such as starting class, whether they want to path by more life, whether they need more attributes, whether they're planning on slotting in cluster jewels thus skirt the edge to avoid having to respec later. There's so many permutations with varying nuance to each, based on how you personally want to build the character and what gear/currency you currently have available. The other (good) ARPGs don't have this. - The gem system. So, like, you have this fireball gem right? It, like, throws out a fireball like you're some sort of badass mage. Then you can slap a fork support and now it'll fork when it hits an enemy. Then you can slap on a trap support and now you'll no longer cast it yourself, you'll throw out a trap that fires off a fireball that then forks on hit. I'm yet to come across another game, let alone an ARPG, with a modular skill system with this much freedom and success. - ARPG loot system. Every ARPG has it, Diablo pioneered it. Magics and rares with varying random affixes and a couple static named uniques for consistency. It's a standard for a reason. - Flask system. Imagine a world where you don't have to keep buying and picking up consumable potions. Now imagine these potions do more than just heal you. Truly, we live in a society. - EDIT: Completely forgot about the currency system... No gold, imagine that. An organic bartering system that arises based on the usefulness and rarity of crafting currency. That's cool no matter how you look at it, not to mention unique. Those are the main reasons I like PoE. So far we only know that gems are going to change and that's scary, but the others probably won't change (touch wood battle royale doesn't become main mode...). Why do you like PoE? [link] [comments]
