Some information gleaned while playing PoB (not PoE) for exiles using lightning based skills.

    Posted: 30 Oct 2021 02:29 AM PDT

    Greetings exiles,

If like me you are playing a Lightning-based skill (especially Witch, Templar, Shadow, or Scion taking the top-half of the tree), the following information may be helpful.

This isn't a guide or anything, just some stuff I've found while playing around in PoB/in-game that may assist people when planning their builds - just a sharing of information in the spirit of this sub. Sorry for the length, those of you who have read my prior posts should expect this :)

    Supercharge

Both Craft of Exile and PoeDB show that Supercharge is no longer a notable that can roll on the Large lightning clusters. The effect of the notable (Lightning Damage with non-critical strikes is lucky) is now available as a Lightning Mastery for all to use, but as it's a must-have for non-crit/Elemental Overload builds this limits the few locations available.

This is an overall benefit however because previously it had an original craft weighting of 100 to roll on a cluster, making it really hard to roll with two other decent/usable notables, and increased the cost for anyone playing non-crit/EO builds. I don't have access to the previous leagues weighting, but I do believe that the weights for the other notables have been changed.

This information was not in the patch notes that I could see (if I'm wrong, someone tell me please).

    Heart of Thunder

Has lost the ES Leech effect, but kept the penetration and a slight damage boost. Leech can now be obtained through the Elemental Mastery, or alternatively still through ES Leech Support gems, mods on Crusader amulets, or the Storm Drinker cluster notable.

If your lightning damage is from a spell you can also get the leech through Light Eater or Ethereal Feast and the nodes leading to them, but please note that Herald of Thunder is not a "spell" for leech like this, both in PoB and in game testing.

Again, not in the patch notes however GGG did say that some notable modifiers were being moved to masteries so not a big surprise.

    Thread of Hope

A Medium Thread of Hope in the north-most jewel socket (top of the tree) will let you hit Heart of Thunder, Breath of Lightning, Golem Commander (if you want another Golem), and Cruel Preparation for 4 points instead of 14.

The Breath of Lightning/Heart of Thunder pathing is pretty powerful, and Cruel Preparation has a 6% Increased Maximum Life node (higher than the small nodes in the scion life wheel), so weigh up the cost of those points versus the mods from the small that nodes path to the notables.

The ring will also hit Lord of the Dead, Arcane Will, and Frost Walker if you are interested in any of those nodes.

A Medium with the least-disgusting -10% elemental resistances roll is 25-30c in league trade, which in my opinion is worth the cost in C and lost small notables for the gain of 10 points (of the 121-127 you can get in the game depending on your ascendancy and bandit choices).

Elemental Overload and Herald of Thunder

As per the patch notes, EO has been changed so now the skill doing the hitting itself needs to crit to proc the More Damage mod, rather that using Storm Brand or another fast-hit skill with base crit.

For any non-crit/EO HoT Autobombers out there, I'm finding that anything less than 6% base crit chance and you're EO uptime is poor while mapping. This is my subjective testing, your results may vary.

You can definitely proc EO easily against bosses with less base crit by using a flask (Bottled Faith, Diamond Flask, or a flask modifier for Crit Chance) but general mapping I am seeing that you'll need to get at least 6-8 to make it stay active for a decent duration/low downtime, and active for protracted bossing.

Crest of Desire can probably get away with less base crit for mapping and rely on flasks for bossing due to the base power of the hat, but I have not tested personally (they are still expensive!).

The uber lab boot enchant for 120% crit chance if not crit recently will be something to consider for EO users, as opposed to the normally recommended Elemental Penetration if not killed recently or Added Lightning if not killed recently enchants.

    Other mechanics

(found from PVP testing with friends.)

    Heraldry (medium cluster notable):

The base "-10% resistance exposure for 4 seconds on nearby enemies" can stack with other exposure effect modifiers, even when the modifier wording does not indicate that it would stack.

    • The Elemental Mastery for minimum -18% resistances from exposure works (as expected).
    • The Mastermind of Discord extra 25% (so -35% total) stacks as well, just from the enemy being within the radius of the effect, despite the wording on Mastermind being "inflict" (which I would have assumed would only be from a skill like Wave of Conviction etc)
      • You cannot stack both effects because the Elemental Mastery is "minimum 18%" and Mastermind of Discord over-writes that with 25%.
    • From testing the base AoE of the effect does not appear to be modified by global increased AoE modifiers, but we didn't test that part extensively.
    • From testing the effect of lowering resists remained when the enemy stayed in the radius even though the "recently" keyword is used on the notable (4 second duration).
      • My PVP partner had lowered resists for the entire time he stayed in the radius (over 30 seconds), recovering to normal resistances 4 seconds after leaving.
      • For me, it appears as though exposure is constantly being reapplied, so "recently" is "forever within the radius". Again, YRMV.

Chilling Presence (medium cluster notable) and Sadist (large cluster notable):

The Sadist cluster notable "15% increased elemental damage if you've chilled an enemy recently" works with the Chilling Presence medium cluster notable.

    • From testing it appears like the chill is not being re-applied like exposure from Heraldry is,
    • This instead appears to grant the initial damage boost but loses the boost after 4 seconds.
    • The chill effect remains in place for the duration the enemy is within the area (30 units)
    • The chill affect does not appear to be affected by global AoE modifiers (not tested extensively).
    • This means to get the "chilled recently" with Sadist using this mechanic the enemy needs to either move in and out of the chilling area (or die quick enough that it doesn't matter)
      • Why am I using Chill when I'm a lightning player? Hypothermia Support makes a huge difference against chilled enemies, and allows me to use other "damage against chilled enemies" mods on gear for further damage.

    Chilling Presence and Algor Mortis

Chilling Presence does not seem to be a "chilling area" for Algor Mortis

    • Algor Mortis (enemies in your chilling area take X increased lightning damage) seems to require an actual chilling area (Cold Snap/Creeping Frost/etc). Chilling Presence inflicts chill to enemies within a radius, but it's not counted as a Chilling Area.
    • This was hard to test, but we were relying on the enemy being in the chilling area and eventually being sapped (the other modifier on the gloves) which we did not see for the duration of multiple PvP attempts.
    • Cold Snap appears to give enough to chill enemies up to Sirus/Shaper without Chilling Presence enabled/active,
      • Note that I invested nothing into Cold/Chill effect for my build other than the non-damaging ailments modifiers that I use for shock effect.
    • Take the Chilling Area interaction with a grain of salt, due to difficulty in proper testing.
    • If you're looking to chill enemies to benefit from Hyporthermia and other mechanics "against chilled enemies" then cold snap appears (to me) to be enough, but I find the notable smooths out mapping experience due to my investment in damage against chilled enemies.

    TL;DR

    1. Supercharge moved to a mastery and cannot be rolled on clusters any more. This is a good thing IMO.
    2. Heart of Thunder lost ES leech but you can get it other places, and the notable itself still rocks.
    3. Thread of Hope can be used in the north slot to save about 8% of the passive total points afforded to you in game.
    4. Non-Crit/EO Herald of Thunder builds need about 6% base crit chance for consistent EO while mapping, 4% base and popping a crit chance flask seems ok-ish for bosses from testing. YRMV test it yourself and tell me if I'm wrong. Boot enchant for Crit Chance could be BIS unless you have enough base crit.
    5. Heraldry cluster notable stacks with Elemental Mastery for minimum exposure, or Elementalist Mastermind of Discord, but not both. Exposure seems to be reapplied constantly and lingers for 4 seconds after the enemy leaves the area, so "recently" appears to be "all the time within the radius". Powerful stuff.
    6. Sadist notable interacts with Chilling Presence, applying the "chilled recently" modifier, but does not reapply the chill and reapply the Sadist bonus, but instead seems to only apply a lingering chill effect (expected result but still worthy to test).
    7. Chilling Presence does not count as a "chilling area" for Algor Mortis that we can tell.

I hope this information helps someone slap the everloving hell out of all the nasties in Wraeclast and the Krangleverse, too. Let me know if you find other interesting lightning interactions, I'm always on the look out for ways to boost my damage.

I'm not even looking for budget builds. I just want to know a good set up or skill build for high boss damage for this league 3.16

Struggling with steel champion after a high budget

    Posted: 29 Oct 2021 07:42 PM PDT

    Hey guys,

So i've managed to farm up around 20 exalts on my league starter and just leveled up a shattering steel/splitting steel champion for end-game content following the below guide:

MASSIVE Damage Scaling - Steel Champion - League Start Build Guide - YouTube

However, it seems like even after upgrading to paradoxica and saviour my single target DPS on red map bosses is extremely lackluster. According to my pob I should have enough damage to easily kill everything even with my current gear but I cannot seem to figure out where the issue is. My pob:

Help with CA/Death Aura Occultist build, please.

    Posted: 29 Oct 2021 09:55 PM PDT

    Hello,

I was looking through poe.ninja for some Caustic Arrow/Death Aura Occultist builds and they seem interesting. However I'm not sure if follow a poe.ninja profile that is already using Caustic Arrow/Death Aura is a good idea since I've heard that it's better to level (and maybe early maps) with another skill, but I'm not sure.

Can someone suggest me a PoB or guide for the leveling part? Also, any tips while leveling or maybe when switching to CA?

    Thanks :D

How to scale damage and especially clear on an exsanguinate Scion?

    Posted: 29 Oct 2021 09:22 PM PDT

I am having trouble with Damage and especially clear in T14+. I know that I can scale damage with a +1 Phys wand but I can't find one with +1, cast speed, phys multi and the open Suffix for trigger craft. I struggle with things like legion, breach or even blight because my clearspeed ist very low. Exsanguinate has a small AoE and doesn't chain. Adding a chain Support would further lessen damage though..

Does anybody has some insight here? Here's my PoB

    Elemental hit raider in 3.16?

    Posted: 29 Oct 2021 10:50 PM PDT

800 hours noob here. How does elemental hit raider look in 3.16? Any big nerfs that I should know about? I looked up poe.ninja and there are a few players running it. Can you start with a Death's Opus instead of a +2-3 rare bow and clear t16 maps? How important is the enchant on Asenath's?

Spellslinger or Poets Pen VD (DD)/CwC what to play?

    Posted: 30 Oct 2021 01:22 AM PDT

So after trying out 2 Builds this leage with wich i had no fun (mad it to maps with them but they felt to squishy with not that much damage) at all i was looking arouond for a last build i could try out.

Now i want to know if sommebody has a build with VD as a Spellslinger or Poets Pen build or even CwC, but it shouldnt feel terrible(and is it viable for getting to red maps, i dont try to do engame bossing but T15 should be achivable)

I have looked aroung in poeninja, but because i am terrible at making own builds I just dont know if those are any good and these builds confuse me (looked mostly at poets pen, most builds were necros with either one or two with a seperate spellslinger setup or two). And what ascendancy is better necro or inquis.

I once had a chieftain incinerate cwc vd build that was fun but i dont think it is viable anymore sadly :(

Looking for a good tanky mapper for high tier Scourge

    Posted: 30 Oct 2021 03:02 AM PDT

Currently wanting to get a second proper build going, but I'm not quite sure what's a build with a decent enough clear speed that's pretty tanky in this meta. I don't need boss damage, just good enough clearspeed for mapping. Budget is around 10-20 ex.

    Thanks in advance!

How do you maintain mana as TS occultist?

    Posted: 29 Oct 2021 11:07 PM PDT

I'm currently using Scourge Arrow because the mana sustain is way easier, even though TS does more DPS and has a higher ceiling because you can scale projectiles. What are the rest of you doing to sustain TS?

Since I left the league and Stasis Prison price promises to be insane anyway, I'm leaving a build concept around Stasis Prison.

    Posted: 29 Oct 2021 07:59 AM PDT

Before the leaguestart, I planned a build around Stasis prison, before finding out how rare (and expensive) it would be. I'm still leaving it here in case it could help someone getting inspiration, since I don't believe I will be able to buy it this league, the next one, or ever.

    https://pastebin.com/3a01WgKq

It's basically a build based around both CWC and CWDT. Basically, you run around using cyclone (because it's smooth). Bonus point if you use stampede for the base 150% movement speed even during cyclone.

Cyclone is linked to CWC and forbidden rite. So every 0,35s (or O,3 with a woke CWC), you cast FR, and lose 40% life reduced by chaos res. This damage trigger a lvl 1 CWDT forbidden rite, losing another 40% life in the process (You can use a single FR, but you need a much lower chaos resist). With 7000 hp and around 50% chaos res, these two FR are dealing enough damage to trigger a lvl 20 divergent CWDT (you actually need to aim a bit higher than the threshold to get enough mana regen. 2800 is enough in the POB). Or actually two of them, one in the body armour, one in the weapon.

Since you can trigger a lot of stuff, you can actually trigger a spell cascade desecrate in a 3-4L, and volatile dead in a 6L. You get another 6L, which can be used for anything else (the POB is using rolling magma (counting 2 ticks per cast) and divergent fireball for increased shock effect.

The mana and life are easily sustained:

-Life because you use stasis prison, infused flesh, vampirism and 26% life recovery rate (so for 100 damage taken, you recover 179 life), gaining an extremely high life regen. The base life regen is 2800/0.3*1.79 = 16700 life per second, to which you have to deduct the damage taken, for a net life regen of 7375 life/second. You can easily run RF, and it may also be helpful to trigger the increased life recovery from arakaali with a dousing flask.

-Mana recovery is handled by battle rouse + mastery, and it's enough to pay the very high manacost of 6L CWDT. Yep.

With a Martyr of innocence, elementalist, you can reach an actual high dps (10.5M in the "aoe setup", 12,2M by swapping volley for pierce in the RM/fireball setup), and with an awakened spell cascade + enchant, you can actually double down on volatile dead and generate all 20 balls every 0,3s for 16M dps (version here: https://pastebin.com/ZqAPhshK ). Edit: Not 100% sure about this one, it may be bricked if unearth remove placed overcap corpses when it's used and not when it lands somewhere, meaning you can't consume them).

These figures are far from being optimized, and we are talking about a EO version.

The build needs to ramp up over 4s at the start of the map or after a death (at the start, you don't have enough regen to handle the damage taken). It's actually taken care of by an amethyst flask (you instantly go up to 75% chaos res, heavily reducing the damage taken for a while until you get enough regen to handle the real deal) and a life flask.

Unlike most CWDT, especially those rapid firing, this one is not a loop. You stop using cyclone, everything stop. No more self damage dealt.

The build is also tanky and squishy at the same time. Your regen is insane, you have 7K hp, you are fully ranged, you don't have to stop ever to dps (so you can focus on avoiding shit ALL the time, that's actually your only mission), you are fairly fast with stampede (so kite the fuck out of everything), but at the same time, you have no secondary defences and since you also take 2K8 damage regularly, if something hit you for 4K2 at the same time, you are dead. If it hits you for 6K like 0,15s later, you are not. That's more or less RNG.

Outside of that, it looked like a fun build, even if you were going to be randomly OS. The price outside stasis prison and the few woke gems (not needed) was also fairly affordable. Too bad I will never be able to try it out. I already had a character created, named "Imactuallymyownenemy" :(

Ps: The CWDT setups have all cyclone + CWC to get the "full dps" working. In the real world, the only cyclone + CWC you are using is the one with FR.

    Hello all

I was wondering if you could help me come up with a build for Glacial Hammer, this is my second league playing poe so I am still very new at building my own characters, so far Im thinking a juggernaut with mace to make use of the new mace mastery. I have around a 10 ex budget.

Just looking for something I can build off of, maybe someone can share a pob from 3.15

    Question(s) about exposure interactions:

    Posted: 29 Oct 2021 11:13 PM PDT

So, Master of Fire reads "nearby enemies have fire exposure." Does this count as me inflicting it? And if so, does it stack with the other options on the tree? For example, the masteries for resistances and fire - the resistance one applies at least -18% res for exposures you inflict, while the fire one applies an extra -5% res. I assume these two don't stack with each other (it says at least), but taking the resistance one would be pretty worth, right?

    Ascendancy for Int stacker

    Posted: 29 Oct 2021 12:31 PM PDT

I haven't played one before but was looking to gradually min max one over Scourge.

My impression was occultist was the general all around for this build but I'm seeing a decent number of assassin/deadeye/raider as well. Does it most come down to defenses vs clearspeed when choosing an ascendancy?

    My Occultist has tapped out...

    Posted: 29 Oct 2021 08:49 PM PDT

So ive been running a vortex/cold snap occult and made it through t16s and conquers but in scourge it just feels really bad. Can any one recomend a good build that is super tanky with good damage for scourge stuff? Doesnt have to be zoom zoom, just want to play something that doest rip quite so often. I dont have a problem leveling a new toon, and i can farm how ever much currency ill need for it before hand. I dont have a preference to play style they are all fine, just wont to make it through t16 scourge and maybe some of the uber blights so ill need some damage, not looking to one tap bosses or anything just has to have enough to clear high level maps/scourge/blights, etc. Thanks so much for any suggestions!

    Hollow Palm Ascendancy

    Posted: 30 Oct 2021 04:02 AM PDT

So for my 2nd character I'm going to make a ice-crash hollow palmer. The only real ascendancy on poe ninja is raider(couple of duelists).

My question is how viable the other ascendancies are and how much dps (i presume mainly due to att speed) I would lose, for example champion for a tankier version, or a scion should be able to get more Dex in total.

    Thanks in advance!

Witch alternatives to Bane Occultist (aka what should I do now)

    Posted: 30 Oct 2021 03:57 AM PDT

    Hi,

I've been playing Bane Occultist as the league starter and just starting the red maps. Apart from the 6-link setups I've almost reached the recommended items for the first 2-3 weeks of the league; but I've been feeling that:

    a. Damage-over-time may not exactly be my style (I started at 3.14 and played Arc, then played Burning Arrow as the 2nd build; in 3.15 I've played raider cold SST. So I'm feeling closer to fast kills rather than the slower dot styles) b. I've been facing squishiness and the slow kill style of dots is not exactly helping me here.

At this stage I feel like I have two options (but I'm open to hearing the alternatives ofc):

    a. Build currency and update to 6link items b. Pivot towards another Witch build (as I cannot for the love of god do the leveling again)

Challenge I have is that I only have about 150-160 chaos right now; so that's another added challenge in this specific situation.

So guys what do you think I should do now : )

    Best Build for 12 Exalts

    Posted: 30 Oct 2021 03:41 AM PDT

Hey guys, i managed to get 12 exalts. Can you recommend me decent clear speed with high survivability and great single damage. I want to kill end game bosses easily (I know 12 exalts may be low but I will use tihs build to end of league).

General Cry builds are suitable i think but clear is very slow for me. Cyclone builds can be good i guess. Could The BLOCKMAN build be the one?

Thanks you in advance for your tips.

Edit: By the way i am using Champion Caustic arrow/Toxic rain. Should i stick with it?
