The Road to Headhunter (A Detailed Guide) - DAY NINE

    Posted: 24 Jul 2019 08:55 AM PDT

    (Yesterdays Post):

    https://www.reddit.com/r/pathofexile/comments/cgt6n7/the_road_to_headhunter_a_detailed_guide_day_eight/

    (Video diary):

    https://youtu.be/QVoxfIvE8lE

    DAY NINE:

Slip on your tin-foil hats, don your trench-coats and get ready for an interesting day. I have many thoughts on Glacier - some being positive, but also many being skeptical of the TRUE power of the currency gain. Yes, it's good. But is it so good that there should be so much hype surrounding it? Also maybe.

However - and this may be UnPoPuLaR oPiNiOn - Alleyways is by far my more favourable map to run. We will have to have a full comparison once all 1000 maps are completed, but honestly, the difference at this point isn't large enough for Glacier to be objectively better! Plus, the colour pallet is harsh on the eyes.

But, to the stats we go!

Today I had a long day at work, and only managed to do 100 maps before heading to bed, so we are now sitting at a total of 400 glacier maps! 600 to go. What map is next? Who knows.

    ------------

    GLACIER MAPS RUN: 100

TOTAL TIME TAKEN: 1 hour, 31 minutes, 6 seconds

AVERAGE PER MAP: 54.66 seconds (a whole 0.75 seconds quicker than yesterday! What a stellar improvement!)

    TOTAL PROFIT: 894.87 CHAOS

PROFIT PER HOUR: 589.39 CHAOS (this is actually our highest average profit per hour we've had so far!)

    PROFIT PER MAP: 8.95 CHAOS

    NOTABLE DROPS:

    Exalted orb: 1

    Divine orb: 3

    Stacked deck: 6

    Maraketh splinters: 36

Trap and Mine Damage Support (level 21, 23q): 1 (130c)

    EXTRANEOUS DATA:

Number of Non-headhunter leather belts dropped (a.k.a number of times my blood pressure rose for nothing): 0 (thanks game, I genuinely didn't need more stress today, very much appreciated)

Percentage of times Monolith spawned in Cavern: 2% (2/100)

    SUMMARY:

I fell into a zen state today while mapping - perhaps it was the podcast about different types of cereals I was listening to. Perhaps it was the long day at work, much of that time spent looking at a computer screen. Perhaps it was me reaching a state in my fast mapping abilities that I'm no longer thinking much about what I am doing and I'm letting my mind wander. Glacier is starting to feel alright to run, but as stated before, I'm actually still more of a fan of Alleyways. I'd love to hear what you guys think! If you've been farming Glaciers for ages, go try out alleyways for a couple hundred maps and let me know. Maybe its just a personal thing for me.

    COMPARISON TO ALLEYWAYS:

The profit per hour of Glacier has risen today - 49.28 chaos higher than Alleyways as of right now.

Glacier is still around about 9 seconds faster, on average, to run than Alleyways. Honestly I don't think I can cut down the time in Glacier any more than I have (without having a more efficient build).

    GRAND TOTAL STATS:

    GRAND TOTAL MAPS RUN: 1400

    GRAND TOTAL PROFIT: 12638.4 CHAOS

GRAND TOTAL PROFIT PER MAP: 9.03 CHAOS (exactly the same as yesterday!)

GRAND TOTAL TIME SPENT: 23 HOURS, 58 MINUTES, 31 SECONDS (including selling and buying time)

GRAND TOTAL PROFIT PER HOUR: 527.14 CHAOS (a net GAIN of 4.20 CHAOS from last time) 527.14

GRAND TOTAL TIME PER MAP: 1 minute, 2 seconds (still again the same!)

Phew, we are just under a WHOLE DAY worth of farming maps over and over again! Time to re-evaluate how my leisure hours are spent?

    Hell no.

Chaos left until Headhunter Purchasable (according to Poe.Ninja as of 1:43am AEST, 25/07/19):

    9720.9 CHAOS

This means headhunter has risen today! We are now 1297.33 chaos further away than yesterday. /u/Empyrianwarpgate I blame you for your hoarding and subsequent reselling of those headhunters. I'm glad you didn't hit quant.

    ...

    Just kidding, love you.

ESTIMATED MAPS REMAINING: ~ 1077 (145 more than yesterday)

ESTIMATED TIME REMAINING: 18 hours, 32 minutes, 54 seconds (about 2 and a half hours longer estimate than yesterday)

And that's it everyone! Have a lovely evening/morning/lunch break/day off/busy day at work/holiday. Love you all.

    Badger out.

Ideas for boss-exclusive consumables to incentivize and reward bossing

    Posted: 24 Jul 2019 09:32 AM PDT

One of the main problems PoE has with incentivizing boss killing at the moment is the way their reward structure has been set up. Once a substantial part of the playerbase gets access to endgame bosses, they flood the market with far more non-consumable items than there is demand, tanking the price of these items. Modifying the drop rates of these items can help them retain their value, but doesn't make actually engaging with the content more rewarding, since the increase in value is dependent on a decrease in drop frequency.

I think the best solution to this issue would be an update focused on expanding bosses' loot tables with exclusive consumable items and introducing new item sinks. I've thought of a couple of ideas for boss exclusive orbs that I thought could be useful, valuable, and fit the theme of their respective boss. Add your own in the comments if you think of something cool!

    Atziri/Uber-Atziri

Locus of Corruption: An additional, more easily tradeable version of the double corrupt altar. Not much to say about this other than the fact that it would be a fun and valuable reward, and item sinks are great for the economy.

Architect's Orb: Adds a random Architect's mod to a rare item and corrupts it. While getting a guaranteed T0 slam is obviously quite powerful I think the randomness due to the wide variety of architect mods and the corruption effect could balance this out. Could create some truly one of a kind items when combined with other crafting methods or Shelder bases!

Mirror of Corruption: A very rare drop from Uber Atziri only. Creates a mirrored copy of an item. Both items are then corrupted. Basically a step below the mirror of Kalandra, for items that are very good but not quite perfect, like a beastly weapon or ring you'd like to wear two of, or just a big craft you could sell a copy of. Increased availability balanced by being limited to one use, could also include a risk of modifying the items unpredictably.

    The Shaper

Orb of Shaping: Changes an item into a random rare Shaper item of the same base type and corrupts it. This orb could be used to roll high level Shaper jewelry, complete the exalted shard recipe, or chase a rare well-rolled Shaped Stygian vise.

Perfect Orb of Shaping: Changes the base type of an item to be Shaped and corrupts it. Got an insane ring you want to use with Mark of the Elder? Got a unique that you want to use with Eternity Shroud that has too many other uniques of the same base type for Trash to Treasure and you don't want to get RSI? This orb is for you!

    The Elder

Eldritch Orb: Changes an item into a random rare Elder item of the same base type and corrupts it. This orb could be used to roll high level Elder jewelry, complete the exalted shard recipe, or chase a rare well-rolled Elder Stygian vise.

Perfect Eldritch Orb: Changes the base type of an item to be Elder and corrupts it. Got an insane ring you want to use with Mark of the Shaper? Got a unique that you want to use with Blasphemer's Grip (pls buff) that has too many other uniques of the same base type for Trash to Treasure?

    The Elder and The Shaper

Orb of Unmaking: Reforges a unique item into another of the same base type. Reroll a Watcher's Eye, or use it as a more targeted Ancient Orb in hopes of a chase unique!

    Delve Bosses

Unstable Charged Resonator: Using this item opens a crafting window akin to Tiny's Trial. Grants the user unlimited uses of the Charged Resonator on a chosen item during its duration. This resonator has a high chance of containing rare fossils (sans Fractured), but changes randomly after every use!

Stable Charged Resonator: Using this item opens a crafting window akin to Tiny's Trial. Grants the user unlimited uses of the Charged Resonator on a chosen item during its duration. Fossil contents are fixed on drop.

Exalted Resonators: Enchants a rare item with a new modifier influenced by the socketed fossils. Cannot be used with Bloodstained or Hollow Fossils (Since these fossils guarantee specific mods that would be far too powerful as guaranteed additions to already crafted items.

    Uber Izaro

Emperor's Orb: Removes the enchantment from an item and saves it to be applied to another. Corrupts the targeted item. This would make it far easier for players to get niche enchants on niche helms. The risks of corruption prevent it from being too easy to obtain top tier enchants on top tier items.

    Beyond and Breach Bosses

I don't know! Maybe something to do with fractured items? Leave a suggestion in the comments!

Other ideas for improving the bossing experience

Additional Corruption Implicits for boss drops. Provide a sink for boss drops. Shaper: benefits per shaped item. Elder: benefits per elder item. Atziri/Temple: benefits per corrupt item. Delve: Benefits per charge.

Buff Delve boss spawns: Even if they have to reduce their drop rates across the board despite the new items in the pool, these guys are too damn rare!

Buff Precursors: These things have far more opportunity cost than the Watcher's Eye (both a ring slot and the requirement to sustain charges vs 1 jewel slot and an aura you were most likely going to use anyways), but the vast majority of the Precursor's mods are far, FAR weaker. I know they're not all supposed to be good because duds are supposed to exist, but I feel like a lot of the Precursor mods are supposed to be good and are just handicapped by over-conservative numbers. Boost some of them up a bit and these rings might feel a bit more worth chasing. A buff to the drop rate (via delve boss frequency) couldn't hurt either.

Move veiled crafts to bosses: This has definitely been suggested before, but I think it bears repeating. Tie lower-tier veiled crafts to map bosses, mid-tier veiled crafts to guardians and white/yellow Elder, and top tier crafts to Shaper, Red Elder, and Uber Elder. This content should reward players for engaging difficult content, not farming low-level zones or standing in hideout sniping veiled items. Let the players who are talented enough to beat these bosses with their day 2 shoestring budget gear be the ones that reap the rewards of being the first to provide crafting services!

    Loot from 25 Putrid Cloisters

    Posted: 24 Jul 2019 11:20 AM PDT

Small sample I guess, but here's the details. Full cleared the maps, map's all had 20% quality and 4 Sacrifice frags, and my Quantity is 56%.

Spent: 14 ex for 25 maps

End result: 11-12 exalts between all loot

    Actual Drops:

    56 Stacked Decks

    2 The Wolven King's bites

    2 Abandoned Wealth

    1 The World Eater

    1 The Hunter's Reward

    1 The Undaunted

+ 500c of other decent cards + 300c of turn in reward cards

= 12 Exalts if everything sells

Overall I could see it being profitable in the long run ONLY if you get lucky, but you have a huge investment cost, it ruins your shaper/elder influence if you don't keep it in check, and once your done, you have to actually sell all of the cards.

Tl;dr - not really worth all the invesment, and having to sell all the cards is a pain

    Regal+Scour vs Alt+Aug (the meffs)

    Posted: 24 Jul 2019 11:25 AM PDT

Hey guys, Whitesushi here. Last league, I made a lot of currency crafting shaper amulets and selling them multi-modded. While doing so, I noticed that regal into scour is a lot more profitable than trying to get 2 good mods with augmentation and then throwing the annulment. In this post, I want to show you guys how math can be applied in a very simplistic way to explain this situation. Obviously, these aren't the only 2 ways to go about it and there are other limitations to this which the calculations do not account for but I will talk about them later on so just take note of them.

Alright so the best way to illustrate this will be with an example and in this case, the item we will be discussing is thicket bow with those specific mods

    • Cold damage to attacks with this weapon per 10 dexterity
    • Attack speed/ double damage

Once you get those on a rare base, you would multimod the rest but how do we get there in the first place?

    The Methods

The two methods I'm covering is going to be regal plus scour versus alteration into augmentation. To go into them a bit deeper

    Regal + Scour method

Player uses an orb of transmutation, spams alteration until he hits cold damage per 10 dex, regal hoping for attack speed/ double damage and either scour (if fail) or multimod (if success)

    Alteration + Augmentation

Similarly, player uses an orb of transmutation, spams alteration until he hits cold damage per 10 dex and augmentation hoping for attack speed/ double damage. Once the player has both, he uses a regal and an annul to get the desired result, scouring if accidentally removing a desirable mod in the process

The reason why the player would ideally want to obtain cold damage per dexterity first and then regal/augmentation the double damage is because double damage has a much higher chance (3.15 times more likely) of showing up according to the percentages given on poecraft. Either way, I would preferably go into these deeper and attach some images for the newer players but this is meant to be a math post so we will gloss over those

How much would the player take?

Alright we are finally at the fun part. To make this scenario work, we have to make an assumption on exactly how many alterations the player can expect to use to get the cold damage per dexterity mod each time. The number I have settled with will be 126 alterations.

This number is chosen because ultimately it doesn't matter ratio wise and I prefer an easier number to work with. Also for anyone that's curious, 126 alterations will give you a 32.8% probability of rolling the mod

    Regal + Scour method

With this method, the player would spend 126 alterations to get the cold damage per 10 dex mod. Once that is achieved, the player would then need to regal it and since we know that the attack speed mod is 3.15 times more likely, chances are he'll need 40 regals and 39 scours (you don't have to scour the last time) as well. What this leaves us with is a grand total of 5040 alterations, 40 regals and 39 scours needed.

    Alteration + Augmentation method

With this other method, the player would spend 126 alterations to get the cold damage per 10 dex mod. However what's different from previous times is that the player would now augmentation it instead, expecting to spend 40 augmentations before hitting the duo. After this, the player needs to regal once and annulment orb the supposedly useless mod away. As such in total, the player would need to repeat the whole process 3 times on average to account for the annul. In this scenario, the player is expected to spend 15120 alterations, 40 augmentations, 3 regals, 2 scours and 3 annuls.

    The cost?

At this point, you guys can probably already guess which one is going to win but either way, I'm going to show the math behind it. Using poe.ninja prices (which aren't totally accurate but I'm a little lazy to go into each currency individually), we have

    • Annulment : Chaos 1:24
    • Regals : Chaos 3.2:1
    • Scours : Chaos 2.9:1
    • Augmentations : Chaos 15.5:1
    • Alterations : Chaos 5:1

For regal+scour, the player is expected to spend a total of 1034 chaos whereas the alteration+augmentation method would cost 3100 chaos, almost 3 times as much. The answer is clear, however I like to make my post longer past the 10 minutes mark (I'm kidding) so I want to explore some other possibilities

What if the player gets lucky in the alt+aug scenario?

Like you know, if he hits it in the first annulment orb. In that case, the player would only do the process once which costs him a total of 5240 alterations, 40 augmentations, 1 regal and 1 annul. Converting these to chaos, the player is expected to spend 1075 chaos which is still higher than if he had just went with the regal+scour route.

What if alterations weren't this expensive?

Assuming last league's alteration prices where if I remember correctly, I was able to get 13 alterations for 1 chaos, the scour+regal method would cost 414 chaos whereas the alt+augmentation method would cost 1239 chaos. Nope, didn't make a difference at all.

What if the player takes more alterations to hit the base mod per try?

I mentioned this earlier, the ratio is the same so it doesn't make any difference.

    The Catch

So if regal+scour is so much better, why do people still use alteration+augmentation? Well there are a lot of factors the above scenario doesn't account for which I will list here.

    1. Fluctuating prices - The price of scours and regals influence the calculations slightly and if their prices were higher (i.e last league when scours were close to 1 chaos each), the regal+scour method would be a bit more expensive for sure. That said though even if scours and regals are in fact 1 chaos each, aug+regal will still be like 2.93 times the cost.

    2. Getting lucky - As shown earlier, even if the player got rid of the undesirable mod in a single annulment orb, he would still spend more using regal+scour. However if he got lucky on top of a higher regal+scour price, the alteration+augmentation route will be cheaper.

    3. Chance for a 3rd mod - As unlikely as this might be, the alteration + augmentation route has a chance to make the player instantly rich if he had hit a good 3rd mod (in which case he only multimods 2 of the rolls).

    4. Percentages to get the second mod - Now imagine if the chances of getting the second mod is way worse, like the player would spend 126 regals as well kind of worse. You might think this will greatly impact the odds between the two methods. However after doing some math on it, even if the player spend twice the regals (252) instead of 40, he would still only spend 6516 chaos in the regal+scour scenario as opposed to 19173 in the augmentation scenario. The ratio is smaller (2.94 times) but ultimately doesn't make much of a difference.

    5. Imprint - This is likely the most plausible scenario especially with combinations with astronomically low chances (i.e. double phys jewelled foil). The item would need to be magic (blue) in order for the beast imprint to work afterwhich the player can regal and annul and imprint if the item messes up. This only happens when the expected cost of getting the two mods exceeds the cost of the beast (Craicic Chimeral)

    The Conclusion

Regal + scour should be the method to go for be it trying to attempt a single mod or two mod multi-modded weapon rather than alteration + augmentation unless you are extremely lucky and hits annul on the correct mods through 50% and 33% chances. (Well even so the two would still be extremely close so highly not recommended). However, there are scenarios
where you would opt for the later such as trying to go for triple mod items or when the mod combination is so expensive that other crafting alternatives become better (i.e beastcrafting imprint).

Last but not least, if you have any questions or if I messed up a part of the calculation please do notify me in the comments below and I will try my best to salvage it. For more posts like this, you can check out my old but still relevant post on how IIQ works which includes a spreadsheet calculator for figuring out regal+scour costs.

TL;DR Regal+Scour is almost 3 more cost efficient than Alt+Augmention and then having to annul afterwards

PoE makes my video card buzz, and is not running as it should

    Posted: 24 Jul 2019 05:02 AM PDT

It is a very annoying high pitched buzzing that happens all the time i am playing poe. Other games dont do this. Poe is also refusing to limit fps. Using my radeon control panel I have tried numerous times to limit the fps to 60, to try and get some solid performance, in the hopes of getting rid of the buzz in addition to other issues. But no matter what settings I use, PoE just uses whatever fps it wants (which SOMEHOW is never the 144 my system should sit it for its hardware, instead hovers around 100), which still cant be right because the game will stutter noticeably, even as the fps count claims it isnt. It even ramps ups the temp, and fans, far more than any other, far more demanding, game. I cant afford to switch my computer from an amd to nvidia right now, which according to my research is about my only bet for actually having this running because, lucky me, the three thousand dollar computer i got just happened to have the wrong gfx manufacturer.

I am at a loss. Other games, grim dawn, dangerou elite, witcher 3, etc, all run beautifully... but poe shits the bed constantly, even as it is stressingmy hardware like nothing else. Is there anything i can do?

    Edit - Win 10, Radeon rx 590, 16gB ram, ryzen 5 3.6ghz

Edit 2 - Here is a fun one. My monitor just blinked out, the power light stayed on, for almost a full second randomly. Never had that happen in any other game

Edit 3 - I figurd it out. My monitor is freesync. So i had vsync turned off. BUT, somehow my radeon control panel had it toggled on. Turning it off let my freesync run properly, and suddenly the game runs beautifully. thanks to everyone who offered their thought on this
