[Suggestion] Sulphite reward from map bosses

    Posted: 03 Aug 2019 11:40 AM PDT

I really wish i could delve more but with the current prices of scarabs I find myself delving a lot less than I wish I could. The amount of time I delve is directly correlated to my RNG of finding Niko in my maps. I have really bad luck. I love delving but I can't even do it. Here's a possible change to endgame mapping that would be worth exploring :

Map bosses could give sulphite on death based on map tier.

Sulphite quantity could be N*100 where N is the tier of the map.

1600 sulphite for killing the boss of a t16 map seems fair to me.

    what do you guys think?

Eve's crafting guide: Best practices in crafting and crafting tips

    Posted: 03 Aug 2019 07:20 AM PDT

I was inspired to make this post by a thread " https://www.reddit.com/r/pathofexile/comments/cl477d/what_options_do_i_have_at_this_time_of_the_league/evtbj4x/?context=3 ". In it crafting was cited as an 'easy' way to make 20 ex per day. While this is not technically wrong, there were was no practical advice given nor were the risks involved mentioned. Because of this i wanted to help the community, share my knowledge and link knowledge of others. This post has become longer than inteded and it seems it only scratches the surface of the complexity of crafting. Without further ado:

    What is crafting:

Crafting is the process of investing of currency into making items which sell over time. In most cases the goal of crafting is to make a profit. This means the profit you generate per day is based on the amount of currency you have invested.

    Tools to craft with:

When I started crafting we only had the normal currency items, but every league the options for crafters have increased. I will now list all of the currency items I have used:

    • Normal currency, aka: Alteration orbs, Regal orbs, Chaos orbs, Exalted orbs, Orbs of annullment and Alchemy orbs.
    • Essences of shrieking tier and above.
    • Fossils of all kinds.
    • Specific bestiary recipies.

There are also a lot of bases beyond the normal shaper and elder bases people use. Every league has had its own thing with rare items. You have Redblade, Incursion, Synthesis and Delve mods. Delve mods are very, very cool and I am not talking about mods you can get by fossil crafting. I'm talking about the cool secret shit you can get from delve chests like +1 spectre and other powerful (and cheap) mods. Google them.

You also need the standard online tools, aka the POE wiki and http://poedb.tw/us/mod.php?cn=Shield&an=str_armour,str_shield

    Best practices:

Best practices are "commercial or professional procedures that are accepted or prescribed as being correct or most effective.". I will list the ones i have gotten from my own experience, and ill add the ones people share in the comment section. You might notice i treat crafting like running a business, which is true.

Keep learning how to pricecheck: The most important thing a crafter needs is the knowledge of when items are worth something. This changes every league, and sometimes every week of the league. Demand in POE is highly dependant on what streamers play. The mathil effect is a thing. Keep periodically pricechecking items which you think are worthless, you might be wrong, since being wrong is fun in this case.

Know when you've made a sellable item/Know when you profit: If you buy a base for 20c and you turn it into an item worth 21c, you can sell it and you'll have recouped 1c of your crafting costs. This is important because recouping a part of your crafting costs will help you stay afloat until you make a big-dick high-profit item.

Eventually you will get a high-profit item: The thing with RNG is that as long as you keep trying, you will eventually make a REALLY good item. If you use 10 ex worth of chaos orbs on the right base, you'll get at least a single 10+ ex item. These are not your main source of income, but they are nice when you get them. Your main source of income will be easy to sell and moderately cheap < 5 ex items since you have a lot of them.

More profit might mean it takes longer to sell: If you price your items below market value they sell quicker. I know this is logical but it is important. If you want higher profit margins, you must be willing to accept your items take a week or longer to sell. There are two different schools of thought on this subject. You could do:

    1. Have low profit margins on your items, sell quickly, re-invest the gained currency, and sell quickly again. This means you make less per item but you sell more. I prefer this because this increases the odds of getting a high-profit item. I think that this method allows the highest profit per day.
    2. Have high profit margins on your items, sell slowly but have higher profit margins. This means you craft less and therefore have more time to map. I've done this during incursion league, it was super profitable and i did enjoy the mix of crafting and mapping a lot.

Value your time: Buying bases, pricechecking and buying crafting material costs a lot of time, and time is money. You could be mapping or crafting with this time.

Invest as much as you can: As discussed in the start of this post, your income is based on the amount of currency invested. To maximise profit you need to maximise investment.

Chaos to exalt ratio determines profits: You buy your crafting materials in chaos orbs, while you sell items for exalted orbs. Crafting is significantly less profitable whill the ex to chaos ratio is below 90c.

Understand the value of the item you are trying to make: When crafting, you need to understand the items you can get with the utilised crafting method. You need to understand the mods in the pool and the potential money the item is worth to appropriately asses the required investment.

    Crafting tips:

Don't craft body armours during a caster-dominated league unless you're intending to make something worth 100 ex. The body armour slot has a lot of competitive uniques. Crafting body armours requires a pre-six-linked item before you can start crafting. Non-six linked body armours do not sell quickly/at all. ymmv tho.

Crafting sellable boots without fossils is suprisingly hard, as 30% movement speed is almost a requirement for them to sell.

Normal (non-shaper/elder) gloves are surprisingly easy to craft, especially with a shrieking essence of any of the three resistances. These sometimes are only 2c or less during a league and its relatively easy to hit 2 more restists or attack speed on them. Easy crafting base and highly profitable.

All shrieking essences are extremely intersting to craft with. Pick one with a mod that might be relevant for a popular build and go ham. The profits will come as long as the essences are below 10c each. Essence of doubt (off the top of my head, the dex essence) on opal or res rings is always solid. People always need dex on rings.

Chaos spamming shaper/elder amulets is still viable when chaos to ex prices are above 120c to an ex. I've hit consistent profits with these.

If you are going to alt-regal craft an item, be prepared to spend 4-6 ex on the multimod.

Cheap bases mean easier profits. Ilvl 83 is required for t1 resist. You can go lower than ilvl 83 and significantly reduce costs, but this also means reducing the chance of getting a big-dick high-profit item.

Picking up white ilvl 83 two-stone rings in maps and alching them and vendoring the alched rings which were shit for prismatic rings is a certain way to make a profit.

I could go on with a lot of situationally useful tips, but honestly it seems pointless. I'd love it if you wanted advice on how to create a specific item while getting a nice profit on the side! Ask and i will answer : )

    Assorted knowledge

There are a lot of people who know a lot of shit about crafting. This community is extremely helpful, as well as the streamers within the community. My experience has been extremely positive. I will now link a couple of resources provided by the community:

Ziz has made an introductory video covering the most basic part of crafting: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RZIQ8mJJY-Q&ab_channel=Zizaran (these cover the absolute basics you need to understand).

The most unpopular guy on the POE reddit, aka Demi, is one the most experienced crafters in the game. He has documented the entirety of his crafting and the money he has made with it. He is also extemely helpful and will generally answer questions while he is streaming. He has a series called "how i make this much currency" and it's an excellent way to learn how much items are worth (as long as you ignore the mirror services). https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IpNqT5Rjv9k&t=2273s&ab_channel=demi

I surprisinly couldn't find any more during a quick google search and I have to do a thing now, so I'll gladly add any from the comments!

    Last words:

I haven't actually discussed all of the crafting methods in detail. This was mostly unintentional but POE's crafting system is so massive... it would take a 50 page book to fully explain everything. I'd like to remedy this. Please comment an item you'd like to craft or an item slot you want to upgrade and I'll explain how to craft it, including practical tips and realistic profit margins.
