【Path of Exile 3.8】 Cast on Critical Strike Assassin – Build guide – Clears Fast, Conquers Endgame!

    Posted: 29 Oct 2019 06:12 AM PDT

Tribal Fury is the best bandaid for melee currently, and I fear for its availability in 3.9+

    Posted: 29 Oct 2019 09:43 AM PDT

The extensive melee rework in 3.7 was a good attempt, but in the end it failed to adress most of the problems of playing a melee Strike build in Path of Exile. It still feels clunky as hell and lags behind ranged builds in clearspeed without offering any real advantage in other areas to make up for those things.

E/: I should clarifiy that this is mostly about Strike skills. Stuff like Cyclone/Blade Flurry/lacerate doesn't really suffer from these issues despite technically being "melee".

I think most people can agree that another extensive rework will be needed at some point in the future, that is if melee can be "fixed" at all in PoE. Currently, at least the clunkiness can be mostly solved in my experience by using Ancestral Call, but this requires gemswapping or giving up an important damage multiplier on bosses.

The Tribal Fury anoint introduced in Blight essentially gives you half of Ancestral Call, active permanently. This does increase clearspeed for Strike builds, but generally not as much as using the actual support gem for most builds. However, the most significant advantage it offers in my opinion is removing a lot of clunkiness from melee (strike skills) gameplay, by making positioning more forgiving even on bosses where you go in with full damage supports, or alternatively it eliminates gem swapping from your build altogether. Essentially, this anoint greatly increased my enjoyment of playing my Infernal Blow Berserker in 3.8 as I could DPS more consistently without swinging at empty air while still running a full 5 damage support 6link, and simultaneously map comfortably with Melee Splash + 4 damage supports thanks to having half of Ancestral Call by baseline.

However, if GGG's track record with previous league content is anything to go by, Golden Oils will go at least for multiple exalts starting next league when Blight is no longer as available as in 3.8. Darkscorn went from a 1-3c bow to being worth an Exalt after Legion league, to give an example of another recent league-restricted drop that is used in endgame builds. Having to pay multiple exalts just to make melee builds actually comfortable to play doesn't sit well with me; I'm a semi-casual player who rarely possesses enough currency in a league to justify paying multiple exalts for a pure QoL upgrade; I'd rather spend that money to roll a non-melee build and upgrade its power instead.

Until we get another melee rework that succeeds better at making Strike skills competitive with other build options, Tribal Fury is the best bandaid for making them feel comfortable to play, and thus it needs to stay reasonably accessible in future leagues imo.

So the point of this post is essentially to ask GGG to either not gut oil droprates like they have gutted the access to most other league-specific drops when rolling them into the base game, or change the requirements of anointing Tribal Fury to something more reasonable starting with next league. I'm not asking for it to become essentially free; the current cost associated with obtaining the anointment in Blight league was reasonable enough for me. I just don't want to have to spend half of my league's budget on it in the future.

Opinions on this subject are welcome.

    Team Trees MTX Maybe?

    Posted: 29 Oct 2019 09:14 AM PDT

This is copied from the Feedback and Suggestions forum.

If you haven't heard yet, there is a rather large movement on YouTube called #TeamTrees, led by Mr.Beast and Mark Rober with the goal of planting 20,000,000 trees by 2020.

I think it would be absolutely awesome if GGG were to release a hideout decoration or something supporting this movement. Surely there could be an awesome tree decoration or something that we could purchase, having some/all of the money go to Team Trees.

Please upvote this so GGG can see it, this is a very important movement and can use all the support we can give!

    Strongest Non-Meta Builds this League?

    Posted: 29 Oct 2019 11:53 AM PDT

Curious what other players experience has been with the strongest non-meta builds!

For me, Caustic Arrow Trickster takes the cake. With the 3.8 poison redux, CA is amazing and probably the best build I've played this league. It melts everything (including bosses) and is very tanky! Here's a PoB with all details in the Notes section for those who want to try.

So what about you guys? What non-meta kickass builds have you played this league?

Randoms Thoughts on the Playerbase during a Dead League

    Posted: 28 Oct 2019 07:41 PM PDT

I grinded from 98 to 100, over a week. The grind was a new experience for me, even after 1000+ hours of POE. Also new were the social interactions from Niko rotas, Beachhead rotas, and lurking in Global 820. Here are some non-scientific thoughts:

The playerbase is predominately Euro and Pan-Asian. This is based on the Realm/Server that people have selected (so no China or Console). Frankfurt and Moscow dominate, and there's a quite a bit using Singapore and Seoul. As an American, I did not realize how much of a minority that I am. People also dislike having to cross the ocean and connect to Cali/Texas/WashDC, during rotations. Has GGG ever released player counts based on each Realm/Server?

The low point of the daily player count is 10PM - 2AM PST. Which is 5AM to 9AM GMT. This isn't new, since Steamcharts demonstrates this with extreme consistency. On the flipside, the peak daily player count is exactly opposite, 10AM - 2PM PST. As someone who consistently plays during this low point, I can attest to how 'small' and 'niche' POE can feel as an online game. If you want the most robust multiplayer experience, then you need to avoid playing at a low time, and prioritize playing on weekends.

GGG adding in the Korea Server back in Legion was a game-saving decision. Korean players are present and persistent. They've helped to boost the active trade economy, especially during the daily nadir of players. I don't want to imagine Dead League Blight without the Korean players bolstering up the overall player counts (which only GGG knows).

Blight has the lowest absolute player count of any league in POE's modern era of 3.0. According to Steamcharts, it was in Week 6 that the peak player count fell to about 20k. The next closest league is Synthesis in Week 7, which still takes the cake as the biggest and most catastrophic decline in relative player count ever. I know a lot of people like to invalidate the Steam numbers, but the underlying trend that Steamcharts shows should be deeply concerning to any person who claims to care about POE, or the health of GGG.

POE's current trajectory is that of a China-only, or a Western-marginalized title. If Western player counts were improving, the Steam numbers would increase to show that. You cannot have growth in the Western market that is somehow not also reflected in Steam numbers; Steam is simply too integral for POE's exposure and growth. From a business perspective, I could see the decision being made to stop supporting or pandering to the Western market.

See you guys on December 6th, if the mysterious lag going on somehow gets fixed in time!

Anyone playing PoE on a 5700/XT? How's Ryzen doing for PoE?

    Posted: 29 Oct 2019 11:33 AM PDT

Just looking for a couple answers. I have seen the myriad of "My $300,000 only lags in PoE wtf is this" and such, so I know there's a wide swing of issues, but just checking to see if it's related to specific hardware as I'm about to upgrade.

Been using my 4790k/980ti for quite a few years now, and tired of the watercooling maintenance since my case doesn't fit everything super well and since 980ti doesn't work with freesync, looking to upgrade my card. While doing so, I've had this chip for about 5 years now or more and it's time to just build anew!

So in the past AMD has given issues with certain games (anyone ever play Wildstar or Tera? It's like they forgot AMD made hardware)

I'm assuming with Ryzen's popularity now that it should be a non issue, but the 5700s are pretty new and fresh off the docks.

    Thanks for your input!

Side question unrelated to poe, thoughts on the 5700/5700XT overall?

Are bows viable? Or would I be facing an uphill battle? Are there skills more conducive to SSF?
