Predictions on top three starter builds for 3.9?

    Posted: 10 Dec 2019 11:36 PM PST

    My guesses:

    1) Necromancer will still dominate with Spectres/SRS/Skeletons.

    2) Some form of totems, possibly Holy Flame.

    3) Blade Vortex

    Which Miner mines best?

    Posted: 10 Dec 2019 11:37 PM PST

Hi, I'm currently looking for a league starter which is a miner since mines are well op. I'm down to the top 3 that I know of which are icicle mines, toxic rain mines and arc mines (for clearing) and pyroclastic mines (for single target).

From what I have read, toxic rain mines is the best since it has the most damage, however I feel like it might be clunky having to wait for the pods to pop. With arc being buffed this patch, I'm wondering if it's back to op status with its chain range increase. And even though icicle mine got nerfed, I'm wondering if it is still stronger since technically you have 1 free socket compared to the others (which is quite a big thing for league start.

My criteria for a good league start is that it's cheap, fast and have a smooth playstyle.

Hope my post was clear enough, thanks in advance!

Edit: Please do recommend any other mines that I've missed out that you feel is strong too :)

    Diciding my metamorph leaguestarter

    Posted: 11 Dec 2019 01:59 AM PST

Hello everyone, I'm a bit torn on what build to use as my leaguestarter, I'll list the top builds I'm thinking of below hoping you guys can give me some feedback to help me decide :)

    • ED Trickster:
      • Has been my leaguestarter for the past 2 leagues, I was hoping to have a change of pace this league but I'm not sure if there are other builds that clear as fast and will be as good for bossing aswell.
      • PRO: One of the fastest clearing builds I've played, with the added satisfaction of the proliferation of damage that I love
      • CON: With no more multimodded weapons and the nerf to chaos dmg over time, its damage ceiling might have gone down a ton, what do you think?
    • Cold DoT Occultist/Trickster:
      • I've never played this build so it has a ton of freshness for me, that is always a pro, to try new builds and mechanics.
      • PRO: Cold damage was not nerfed on this balance patch it seems, so this build should still be quite good.
      • CON: I'm afraid it might be too squishy for the bosses this next league will present?
      • CON: I'll have to be very close to the bosses to deploy the vortexes, so that might make this build a little riskier? What are the defensive mechanics of this type of builds usually?
    • Chaos dmg bow build (Scourge arrow/Toxic Rain/?):
      • I've never played a bow build as leaguestarter before, and this type of build seems to be quite strong in the current meta, would be nice for a change of pace.
      • I don't really know much about this type of builds, if you guys could let me know of the possible Pro's and Con's I'd very much appreciate it.

Thanks in advance for all the help and best of luck for your league starters :D

Reminder that 3.9.0 Metamorph is a Boss-killing league, AND unique mobs are also being buffed

    Posted: 10 Dec 2019 06:02 AM PST

Meta builds are going to be very different this league, we'll need strong single target and good defenses on our characters this league

Ice Shot or CoC Ice Nova?

    Posted: 11 Dec 2019 12:40 AM PST

Can't decide on what to start with.

Ice shot looking interesting especially with the buff (was already super good without the buff). But its probably going to be super expensive with 3.9 being Bow Meta League?

Ice Nova CoC is - like always - a safe bet once you get Cospris. Damage is bonkers both for clear and single target but a bit squishy early on.

    What would you start with?

Trying to come up with the most efficient galvanic arrow ballista skill-tree

    Posted: 11 Dec 2019 03:59 AM PST

For few days I've been trying to make some combinations and find out whats best.

I want to do point blank arrow-nova galvanic arrow balista but what i dont know is which path on the tree to follow.

Ascendant jugg/hiero or deadeye/hiero. Or just pure hierophant. Because i want point blank and skirmisher with it will be expensive as hell this league i need to pick it up but the path to it is kinda on the opposite side

So my question is, how would you approach the tree ?

I've made this version with PoB for hiero

    https://www.pathofexile.com/passive-skill-tree/3.9.0/AAAABAUCAFuvKk0UdY25WfPZxpRvtfKgn4rkwGYyCTpCZlR35QSzEMxRR38CI_bdqF1oZp7dDRo4gpsDmpvskFV_K2habztLeIqvdvevbCT9yqkwcTKUpldN4_m98kWkeFb6TwSGs41945-Nv6TCN9T9bjWS_o8IiaaIbqp4-caumvG3PkrIMPjwHzwtMfpNksMTlQULYdi9wdU51GjyKyYVIARRMHz-Cod2e8NybFjlLOlsRq7_OtjnVEfig1_AGv_ecg9khKPyOuHtPzu6eA34k_6HIuKGgj8nkBHe-Gs0Jy_UI3UqZ6B316Q5WisGoHsgg8w6FviCwTMA7n7dcWJKfaIA

    TR Mines - What Ascendency?

    Posted: 11 Dec 2019 03:54 AM PST

I was thinking Sabateour, but honestly im not sure if it's worth it. It's basically just throwing speed and regen. I think trickster could be better, but then i worried about throwing speed ...What do you guys think? How do people build TR mines?

What to level with for a HoWA jugg?

    Posted: 11 Dec 2019 03:48 AM PST

Anyone have any suggestions for which skill/build to level with until I can get a Hand of Wisdom and Action? My end game goal is CI HoWA lightning wild strike jugg.

Its not good. First build in nearly two years. CoC

    Posted: 11 Dec 2019 03:44 AM PST

So I made this monstrosity after looking around at builds and seeing Mathil's CoC Detonate Dead build. Never been a fan of Necros. Saw the new patch notes shortly after watching Mathil's build and I noticed and old favorite of mine was getting a minor change, Lightning Warp. Is this a good idea? God no. Do I want it to work? In the worst way.

No idea what to do with gear anymore and I'm sure the tree needs some work but I spent like an hour and half dicking about. If anyone has any suggestions on how to make CIclone Warp kinda work I'm all ears.

Voltaxic Rift and Galvanic Shot for 3.9?

    Posted: 11 Dec 2019 03:23 AM PST

Can this combo be made to work nicely with 3.9 in the new league?

Are Voltaxic builds more or less light on the investment side when starting out with the option to invest multiple Ex later when you have the currency?

    Maybe EA Golems?

    Posted: 10 Dec 2019 10:57 PM PST

Kinda doing what mathil did at some point for one of his attack builds, using Golems for the generic buff and stacking alot of minion damage for the Golems and my EA ignite for really nice prolif clears.

It seems very solid in theory, but I can't figure out a tree yet, Very clunky pathing. Also FYI Emmit's tree is updated

Question: cast while channeling on hit effects.

    Posted: 10 Dec 2019 10:48 PM PST

    Hello dear internet,

I have humbly came to ask you about some stuff that is bugging in my head for few days. If I have for example this setup: cyclone, cwc, blade vortex. Doest that blade vortex profit from on hits effects like "life gain on hit" from weapon? So in the end, can I gain life gain on hit from hitting with cyclone and blade vortex together?

And secondary, if I have this "cyclone cwc bv" setup with energy leech, I suppose I can leech energy from bv damage too, but can I leech energy also from poisons spreaded from this setup?

Thank you very much and apologies for my english ^

    3.9 Immortality Theorycrafting Thread

    Posted: 10 Dec 2019 11:40 AM PST

With the death of Fortify and Unshattered Will, one more method of achieving immunity to damage has been closed off. I'm making this thread because I'm running out of things that can definitely achieve damage immunity, so I'd like to send out the last few possibilities to a strategy GGG seems very intent on killing.

    Dead Immortality builds:

    • Maximum Resistance Immunity: Crippled in 3.5. One of the first immunity builds that people started using, this involved stacking maximum resistance until it was 100% for all elements. This was accomplished with flask effect, the three elemental flasks, and divination distillate. It was killed in 3.6 when a maximum resistance maximum was introduced.

    • 100% reduced damage taken: To be killed in 3.9. Unshattered Will and Fortify are being changed to "less" from "reduced." Less damage stacks multiplicatively, meaning it always allows some portion of damage through unless a single source results in 100% less.

    • Gluttony of Elements + 100% physical as elemental: Killed in 3.5 when it prevented the gaining of Vaal souls while the buff is active. Resurrected in 3.7 when Timeless Jewels had generic flask effect, allowing one to achieve 100% reduced vaal soul cost and thus making it cost 0 souls to use. Killed again in 3.8 when Maraketh Jewels had their value changed from 8% flask effect to 10% non-unique flask effect.

    • Vaal Immortal Call + duration stacking: Killed in 3.7 when it was made to no longer be affected by Temp Chains.

    Current remaining immunity builds:

    Immortal Call near-immunity

Immortal Call was changed to provide less damage, but it stacks multiplicatively with itself in two parts: 25-35% less damage, and up to 75% less damage. Combined, this is an effective 81.25% less damage taken at gem level 1.

I am currently not completely certain, but I believe Ichimonji stacking on a level 20 Immortal Call will either result in 100% less damage taken (if Ichmonji applies after the buffs are combined, which I doubt), or ~94.6% less damage taken if Ichmonji is applied to both halves, then combined.

The skill has 1 second base duration, but stacking Shackles of the Wretched with temporal chains and 128% curse effect makes that an effective base 4 seconds. This can be further buffed by having more endurance charges, quality on the gem, or increased skill effect duration nodes in the tree. It is possible to easily make this last 12+ seconds, though it will always have a 3 second dead zone while waiting for the cooldown.

Cooldown recovery can be gathered through belt and boot affixes, but it's not likely to save more than a second of dead time.

    Aggro Radius faux-immunity

It is currently possible to achieve 100% reduced visibility to enemies with skills like shade form from Shroud of the Lightless, Phase Run, and Aspect of the Cat. It takes some work to make them last long enough to stay up permanently, but the end result is that enemies will never aggro or target your character. You're still very mortal to damage, but enemies stand around and wait to die if they have no valid targets.

This can work pretty well with a passive build like Righteous Fire, a minion build focused on Arakaali's Fang, and more as long as they don't require constant attack.

    Immunity through avoidance

This isn't worth bolding because it is nowhere near reaching immunity at this time. However, avoidance is an attribute that can theoretically reach 100%, which would effectively grant immunity to whatever can be avoided at all times.

Aquamarine flasks give 20% chance to avoid cold damage, which is still affected by Maraketh jewels. Pairing that up with Hopeshredder and it's theoretically possible to avoid cold damage about 60% of the time. Find the other 40% somewhere and pair it up with a very fancy legacy Eyes of the Greatwolf, then you can gain immunity to elemental damage. Or use a regular version and get immunity to cold and one other element.

Anyone else have thoughts on what avenues should be pursued, if at all?

Is LL RF w/ SR Guardian good for a boss killing league? Never played it

    Posted: 10 Dec 2019 11:58 PM PST

I was thinking of making one, though there was no mention of them buffing RF in patch notes. I know they changed the paradigm a little, requiring fire damage over time multiplier now.

I want to try the LL guardian variant and use SR for single target.

Or I might try burning arrow. No clue what ascendancy. I want something zippy that can melt bosses. Thoughts?

    Chieftain Bow/Ignite or Flicker Slayer?

    Posted: 10 Dec 2019 11:39 PM PST

I did a quick passive tree on chieftain and got ~400% increased ignite damage, ~200% increased life, ~20% life regen, 7 endurance charges, and I assume evasion gear. Wasn't completely sure on ascendancy nodes, but wanted 50% increased regen, endurance charge on fire skill use, and probably 100% of physical as extra fire damage every 10 seconds. Wasn't sure how important the ignite nodes on the top left of the passive tree were. Also, does iron grip increase bow ignite damage? Would be +80% increased damage.

For Flicker Slayer, I'm not sure what's best. Since you can now get guaranteed frenzy charges 100% of the time, I'm not sure what type of weapon to use. Can you go somewhat slower? Can you skip multi-strike? Last time I played flicker (berserker) the game kept crashing. I really want to try again though.

So I've prepared a LL Raise Zombies Baron Mana Guardian before the dev manifesto - looking for alternative support-ish builds

    Posted: 10 Dec 2019 11:33 PM PST

The nerfs to Zombies affected Guardians more than it did Necromancers I think, because it's easier for them to stack some damage and still get good results. So now I'm looking for a build with around 7-9 Auras that is viable solo and in parties.

Currently looking into Dancing Duo Scion, but I'm open for suggestions, feedback and links to PoB trees. ;)

Word in the street is Elementalist Golem buffs were pretty good this league. Any builds you'd recommend ?

    Posted: 10 Dec 2019 12:20 PM PST

Been reading that the golem buffs were insane. That they can give high Regen and near total Phys immunity now ? Any builds you guys would recommend that don't require a ton of uniques.

Anima stone would probably be hard to get at league start so hopefully nothing with that
