Blight with Off-Meta Builds - including Poison Dark Pact Pathfinder that clears everything (yes, you read that correctly!)

    Posted: 10 Dec 2019 05:11 AM PST

    Hi everyone,

    Gameplay footage (everything t16): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ucBVwvaI00c

This is a short showcase of a few of the Builds that i played. Below are the PoBs and an additional Build of which my gameplay footage somehow got corrupted and that i cant show now, because i'm not willing to record again

    1. Lacerate Bleed Gladiator [PoB: https://pastebin.com/sC2GVTj1 ]
      Timestamp: https://youtu.be/ucBVwvaI00c?t=3
Keep in mind that the PoB damage number is irrelevant. You see the damage in the shaper kill (~18million hitpoints). Max block, high armour, good clearspeed. Was a solid leaguestarter and i could have gone for level 100, if i wouldnt have started to experiment at lvl99+50% (idiot me ...). I have a guide for this setup in general (from Legion League), i still think it is one of the best ways to scale bleed damage. If built properly, this character can have very good defenses (max block, 7k+ life), solid damage (>2million shaper bleed dps) and still move reasonably fast through maps. Maps are no danger for this character (apart from phys reflect).

    2. Rain of Arrows / Puncture Bleed Gladiator [PoB: https://pastebin.com/2EDF3gmr ]
      Timestamp: https://youtu.be/ucBVwvaI00c?t=20
Bleed damage here is much easier to calc [~4m with puncture, puncture bleed lasts almost 30s!]. Comes with fortify in a bottle [love blight for that]! This was a very nice change of pace compared to the melee bleed char. It's nowhere near as tanky as the melee version with shield, but it clears faster overall and the puncture damage - especially with this duration - is just bonkers. It may be interesting to revisit this or a similar character in Metamorph League with these bow changes.

    3. Crit / Stun Ground Slam Jugg [with 2h Mace] [PoB: https://pastebin.com/TEWk0CcY ]
      Timestamp: https://youtu.be/ucBVwvaI00c?t=73
Once again, PoB Damage is not accurate, just check the Shaper kill and you will see that it's not "only" 1.5m dps. Ground Slam distance bonus as well as Pride at maximum effect are not calculated properly. Azenath's Gentle Touch for the corpse removal. I am totally in love with this build, its just amazing. Bosses are absolutely irrelevant outside of Uber Elder [i still used this char to farm Uber, its that easy] and the few that are truly stun immune. Syndicate encounters are usually no problem due to the overall very high coverage and high damage. Jugg makes it tanky even with Abyssus. Obviously, the speed itself is not too amazing, but clearing the whole screen in one "melee" click is fun!

    4. Elemental Hit Wander Elementalist [PoB: https://pastebin.com/rYLmSrS7 ]
      Timestamp: https://youtu.be/ucBVwvaI00c?t=163
This build was a copy of mathils Wander this league, as it looked interesting. I didnt like it. You see my attempts to make it more "user friendly" in the PoB. Golems just die too fast if you buff your maps with Beyond and other shit. Not my style, abandoned the char at lvl91 (but the damage is there).

    5. Poison Scourge Arrow Pathfinder [PoB: https://pastebin.com/4JaPvHTf ]
      Timestamp: https://youtu.be/ucBVwvaI00c?t=191
This is an absolute beast [but not really off-meta]. Around 5 million Shaper DPS with just scourge arrow, the totems with Toxic rain can clear blight lanes just by themselves. For map clear, the 4L Plague Bearer does a marvellous job. Super good defences [including divine flesh with Darkscorn], fast, strong. One of my favourites. The Scourge Arrow Change in 3.9 may very well buff this character.

    6. Poison Dark Pact Pathfinder [PoB: https://pastebin.com/b0UgFhMH ]
      Mapping with Plague Bearer: https://youtu.be/ucBVwvaI00c?t=243
Mapping without Plague Bearer: https://youtu.be/ucBVwvaI00c?t=278 (including Chicken nugget guy)
      Uber Elder: https://youtu.be/ucBVwvaI00c?t=358
Now, how do i start? This is basically the pink elephant in the room. With the Scourge Arrow Char i realized how crazy Plague Bearer is, so i wanted to make something that actually scales AoE as well as poison. And i wanted to scale the level of Plague Bearer. I couldnt find anything, so i just went crazy and made this character. It turned out pretty well. And as you can see, Plague Bearer for map clear when buffed like that [see PoB and vid] is totally bonkers. Its like poison righteous fire that you need to recharge every now and then. Char works also without it. Every boss was possible and even easy [even deathless, if you play better than me]. Reasonable defenses with divine flesh, dodge and some evasion are included. If one were to pursue this to the maximum, the end-goal would be a staff that has +3 to chaos skill gems and +2 to spell skill gems. Raising Plague Bearer to Level 31 and thus unlocking the next radius stage. Even without the +2 to spell skill gems, it is totally crazy. The build can also do every content the game has to offer, including all map mods. Those skellies with their 12k+ hp seve as pretty neat meat shields if needed. For normal mapping you do not need them at all.

    Honorary mentions:

Crit Ice Crash Staff Jugg [PoB: https://pastebin.com/bScqEu20 ]

As the Elemental Hit Char, this started as a copy of one of mathils build [i had the jugg and most gear already here]. I prefered my own version of ground slam, so i made this one into an Ice Crash character that does NOT require a flask for life sustain. while mapping, the boss dps is somewhere above 3 million [4m Shaper dps with the bossing-setup]. With this, i realized that syndicate members are NOT immune to freeze. Syndicate was never as easy as with this setup. Amazing char, but unfortunately you cant see shit. Ice crash with that radius [40+ if you want] just covers most of the screen in white.

    every dev Manifesto

    Posted: 09 Dec 2019 10:19 PM PST

On Dropped Frames you guys said you know melee needs help, but then 3.9 is nerfing some aspects of Melee?

    Posted: 09 Dec 2019 09:34 PM PST

So specifically the new manifesto has the following troubling items:

    • Fortify is being nerfed I wont get into the math (hopefully someone below will) but its a nerf. I don't think anyone will argue that melee is tough enough to compensate for its mechanical disadvantages BEFORE you nerf it. This nerf apears to "throw the baby out with the Nebuloc Jugg deep delve, bathwater". The only place in the game I think anyone could reasonable recommend a melee build, and only because of the very specific survival synergies. Wouldn't nerfs to that build have been more appropriate? Call me crazy but perhaps GGG should wait until there's more than one place in the entire game where anyone would recommend a melee build before they nerf the only one?

    • 2 hander viability was being propped up quite a bit by 7L shaper/elder mods (especially Staffs which could have 8L (Fortify + inspiration support). This nerf basically puts 2h back from being semi niche to where it was 2 years ago: why would you ever bother.

    • Multimod nerf makes it harder to make good melee weapons that need to tick more boxes before they are usable. Any spell skill can get by with some scaling and maybe a gem level, melee weapons need to have usually 4 sometimes 5 specific mods of good values. Certainly this is the case before you would spend multiple exalts on one. So the multimod nerf disproportionately effects melee. Was it needed? Probably in some form, probably would have been better to adjust the craftable mods themselves so that caster and ranged multimods were more nerfed than melee.

As an aside this change also basically extincts cool and "diverse" spell bow builds and various other interesting weird off meta things you could do, like melee'ing with claws while still having spell damage rolls on your weapons, or spell/attack/minion hybrid weirdness. You know: build diversity

    • Boss life hurts melee disproportionately to ranged and spells spending more time next to the boss within the particle spam is more chance to mess up and not see a slam coming. Ranged don't need to see the slam coming because they can stay outside of it. So I think a lot of us can agree that the top builds phase bosses almost instantly and that's really not the best thing for the game. Boss HP probably needed boosts... But Melee wasn't the stuff that was instantly phasing bosses... Some guy and his 500k Sunder Glad is not fracerolling Uber Elder. And that's one of the problems here. You're upping the challenge for the 0.05% of the player base that insta phases end game and gutting every mediocre and off meta skill that's already not that great. Among them are: ALMOST EVERY MELEE SKILL IN THE GAME.

    • Phys damage being nerfed, more opportunity cost to play physical builds most harms melee, impale is nerfed and bleed is nerfed by these changes. "on hit" physical penetration nerfs bleed and adding new opportunity cost to them doesn't help melee get life nodes and defenses... it makes Melee worse. Bleed is only just in a decent state FOR ONE 3 MONTH PERIOD OUT OF 6 years. Crazily enough bleed is actually better as a Bow build due to Lioneyes fall jewel allowing Bows to take more bleed multipliers than a melee.

And as always by melee I mean skills that aren't ranged attacks. but even those are getting underserved nerfs "Pretty okay" Bleed Earth Quake just lost damage and now has to chew through more HP; so it is kinda okay still or is it dumpstered?

[MS paint] My current build plan (barring any huge necro nerfs)

    Posted: 10 Dec 2019 07:18 AM PST

[Suggestion] Now that multimod is getting toned down, allow us to craft it as a suffix or a prefix.

    Posted: 10 Dec 2019 12:27 PM PST

This would give a bit more flexibility to multimods. Previously, I think multimod was a bit too overpowered to allow it to be a prefix or a suffix, but now that has been nerfed it seems alright to allow both.

What's this idea that %phys/supportedby removal is for 4.0?

    Posted: 10 Dec 2019 05:47 AM PST

I've seen a lot of people saying that the removal of the hybrid %phys/supported by elder/shaper mods are somehow tied to preparing the game for 4.0, because 4 7-links or 8-links would be too strong

Have y'all been paying attention? There's already an ASCENDANCY that turns your 4 6Ls in your bow to 8 7Ls... extra links aren't going anywhere, stop being paranoid

They're just removing those because maybe, just maybe, there's 4 new influence types coming and they don't want Elder/Shaper to outshine those, but to be more situationally powerful (instead of a clear best-in-slot prefix as things stand?

Like come on guys, if anything, 4.0 is shaping up to be crazier than anything we have with regards to gems, keep a cool head and don't start repeating nonsensical babbling just because there was a nerf on an existing thing while we don't know what new, just-as-powerful-or-possibly-completely-fucking-broken thing might replace it even in 3.9

To everyone complaining about the nerfs...

    Posted: 10 Dec 2019 01:38 AM PST

For the love of god, WAIT FOR PATCH NOTES.

Balance Manifesto is such a small "glimpse" of what's to come.

It provides actually nothing but an idea of where they're headed.

They're nerfing things, but with every single league there's HUGE power creep. They're nerfing 7L 2H that directly came from Elder/Shaper stuff, but you need to realize we have an ENTIRELY new end-game. Shaper and Elder stuff are just the small hidden away things now.

WE HAVE AN ENTIRELY NEW END GAME. This means Elder + Shaper shit 2.0 and all of that.

Things might be getting nerfed for room. Room for OP as fuck things that are coming with new end-game uniques or boss specific loot or anything.

    WAIT FOR FUCKING PATCH NOTES
