    I have a crazy dream.

    Posted: 28 Jul 2020 06:26 PM PDT

I want to use a physical damage skill and convert it to lightning damage, I like lacerate. Now I know lightning strike exists and ele hit but I'm tryna do something different. I want to use Hyoans Fury as an end game weapon, which excludes HoWA. My budget is 4-6ex.

When working in PoB by level 90 I can convert most my physical damage but seem to have a hard time converting 100%. I'm also amplifying shock for big crit damage. I've narrowed my options too Assassin or Raider for charge damage scaling. I don't care for raider style although it does have the highest damage potential. However I can only get up to 200k shaper. Sorry at the time of posting this I'm not home and can't get you my PoB. That's with flasks up and fully ascended. I know that's terrible, which is why I was hoping you all could help me.

How can I easily convert physical to lightning and get dat millions a DPS? Items in consideration are Inpulsas, saqawals gloves, storm charger boots, doryanis delusion, and vessel of vinktar. I've got a few Dex conversion to lightning dmg jewels socketed for extra powah.

Do you have item suggestion? Build suggestions? Skill suggestions? I'm tryna build this from the ground up. Would cluster jewels work better than the standard skill tree?

Thank you all in advance and may Innocence guard you.

    Posted: 28 Jul 2020 05:16 PM PDT

I am looking for some help boosting the DPS of my bleed bow glad with our sacrificing survival. Even that seems to be on the low end for some boss fights. I am not a fan of Harvest and do not care for crafting. I am looking for advice on what items I should upgrade in what order and what stats I should look for on those items. I will post my POB below. I am looking for high-end gear recommendations but maybe not mirror tier.

    Thanks for the advice.

Are cluster jewels worth it for slams?

    Posted: 28 Jul 2020 12:51 PM PDT

I didn't play much in delirium so I don't know a whole lot about the benefit of cluster jewels, but it looks like most of the top builds on poe.ninja are using some combination of them. I'm doing earthshatter jugg with a 2h axe, but PoB calculations are kind of awkward for this skill. Has anyone had any luck/experience using cluster jewels this league that can recommend some notables to look for if they're worth using at all?

    Thank you!

Edit: Should have mentioned that I'm doing ES crit/impale jugg. I'm currently working on getting more crit chance, and may swap to berserker/staves when I get a bit more currency

Pathdinder or Raider for this build?

    Posted: 28 Jul 2020 04:17 PM PDT

I'm playing Elemental Hit Ascendant (non-crit). I'm currently using slayer and pathfinder, but I'm thinking about switching to Raider. According to PoB it should give me more max DPS against bosses, but the flask benefits of the Pathfinder are good for long boss fights. What do you think is best?

Looking for some DPS suggestions for a bladestorm gladiator build

    Im following this build https://www.pathofexile.com/forum/view-thread/2874618

and im looking for ways I could upgrade my DPS, I still need my last 2 ascendancy points which im going to do tomorrow - which should give a good boost getting the Arena Challenger node.

the build has been working really well (easily doing t12s), still working to get t12+ maps, i almost never die unless im standing around in chaos or bleeding hard and dont notice, and i recently hurt 2 fingers on my left hand so the ease of use of the build is great

Mostly looking for gear suggestions, im still new so im not positive what modifiers can be found on which item types

Looking for "SSF" Tanky Build with good Boss Dmg

    Posted: 28 Jul 2020 01:58 PM PDT

    Hey,

As in the title, im searching for a tanky build (not facetank) with good boss dmg in our 2-man private league. Clear speed doesnt really matters for me. Atm im playing a ED Spellslinger Trickster but the boss dmg rather the potential to take some hits doesnt satisfy me at all. Im atm in red maps awakening 5 and conquerer or sirus took years for me to kill.

Would be nice if some people can suggest me their build or their experience in SSF builds.

    Thanks in advance

Storm Brand Assassin - Need some help

    Posted: 28 Jul 2020 07:25 PM PDT

The damage feels pretty good. It takes down most bosses pretty quickly and mapping is amazing due to Inpulsa's and scaling a lot of Ele/lightning damage with storms gift. Its almost full screen clears with every brand placed in a pack. It also works really well with the harvest mechanic.

But my god is the character squishy. I have almost no defense apart from elusive and some decent regen, and the general brand playstyle of just placing brands head of me and clearing the screens before I get to the monsters. If I end up in the middle of a pack for any reason, I'm usually dead.

I'm mainly looking for ways to build some defensive layers with out gimping my damage into the ground. I've got about 17 ex saved up and 1/4 of a quad tab of harvest crafts saved up if i needed to make something.

Do i need to completely rework to build to try to go for CI or drop the void batteries for a wand+shield and go for glancing blows? Any help would be really appreciated.

With base maximum leech now at 10% and limited ways of getting isntant leech, is there any worth while way of [[The Retch]] to scale well?

    Posted: 28 Jul 2020 11:18 AM PDT

A build I've wanted to revisit for a while was a Slayer overleech / max leech [[The Retch]] build, scaling phys and chaos (with potential other auxiliary sources potentially as impale, poison, added as chaos, etc).

Seems like the best possible way to scale would be a Bloodseeker Mainhand and a GG rapier/claw/dagger offhand, in which case why not just scale normal attack crit DW with two good weapons?

However, I don't see any good way at this point in time aside some shenanigans with the [[Bloodseeker]] to get high amounts of instant leech/max leech. Going with a vinkar's Phys to lightning, and then also getting sources of increased chaos damage taken from say withering step and witchfire brew seem really excessive and far more effort compared to just normal crit claws or daggers.

Is The Retch's awful scaling just a side effect of relentless nerfs to life leech and just not worth building around compared to any other damage source?

My take on how to build a build, and how to recognize good bases, influences, and proper ilvls for incrementally progressing said build

    Posted: 28 Jul 2020 06:11 AM PDT

Full disclosure, I posted on the poe sub last night. This is a cross post maybe meant to inspire more conversation than the other. Hope you enjoy it, fact check it, and discuss it. If I help out one person I'll be very happy.

Forgive me, this is a long post and I'm trying to use this to facilitate a discussion. I'm breaking this up into 3 sections for the guides from a noobs perspective. If I can give one person a LITTLE bit of direction, I'll be happy. If I can facilitate discussion. It's a huge post, I don't expect a single person to read it all, but if you can read a part of a guide and offer the community your thoughts, your voice might be more useful than someone like me who started in the tail end of metamorph.

    Why write this guide?

I am a newish player starting out in very late metamorph. In metamorph, I got to T6 maps with Bane Occultist. In Delirium, I cleared 20/20 simulacrum and A8 Sirus. In trade league this 3.11 patch, I killed A8 Sirus on my Cold Dot Trickster, challenging myself to league end with my league start after it took me like 6 characters to get to A8 Sirus last league. Now, I am doing SSF and just killed A0 Sirus today. Shitty flex, but I'm proud. You can see, I like to challenge myself. I knew nothing about build making and item bases before writing this, and now I do. Arguably those are two of the hugest parts of PoE.

I am at the point right now where I can probably make a build on PoB that doesnt do loads of damage, but I cannot for the life of me figure out how the hell to choose which bases are the best for me, and which I can settle for and which I should NOT settle for. Why the hell do I take hunter boots for spectre builds? How in the hell are people getting cold dot multi on gloves? Well, I took the time to answer these questions for myself and I took the time to do some research today over the past few hours instead of asking you guys how to recognize good bases, item levels, and influences. I learned a TON.

Lastly, I'm pretty selfish. I want people to benefit from my research and knowledge or lack there of, and likewise I want you guys to correct me if I am saying some wild shit that is factually incorrect. This game is amazing, huge, and bloated. I feel like I know 5% of the game after playing all the time since quarantine. I am really enjoying SSF, and in trade league I can fix my holes of knowledge by buying gear, progressing the atlas, repeat. In SSF...if I dont know how to get my spectres up and running Im kinda fucked.

    How I approach build making

Here's my POB plan to determine if a build is viable on paper, maybe its super clunky in game and I gotta make adjustments like more damage less defenses or other way around. While not relevant to the post, you get an insight on how I think and this might help out a noob like me too.

    1) Get inspired to play a skill and look how it is built on PoE ninja in terms of how they 6L it and what ascendencies might support it the best. Dont be scared to go off meta if it makes sense. Trickster vortex cold snap is off meta compared to occultist but has some QoL that occultist doesnt!

    2) Turn on node power on PoB and build out to 113/123 points, meeting a few requirements. 1) ~170% life or ~200% ES if CI, some means of damage mitigation (path to glancing blows, path to phase acrobatics, etc), one guardian spell with increased duration (e.g. steelskin), and some means of regen ( high % life per second, life/ES on kill, etc), some mean of movement speed increases if possible, and 500k shaper dps. I don't see mitigation and recovery paired enough in conversation, it's one or the other. If you have to rely on a slow ass flask to sustain your health after you got chunked from a series of big hits you mitigated by blocking or dodging, it'll feel really awkward. Patient reaper + Cinderswallow + glancing blow with ES on block is so good for sustain.

    3) Once those requirements are met, see what POB says for links again, and then see what auras, curses, and secondary skills can be used. Maybe your LMB/movement can be a damaging spell like Vortex! Maybe it can be a guardian spell. Maybe you can trigger EE with a trigger wand and put a curse or two in there. Maybe you can squeeze an extra aura for big dps boost. Include an extra aura and extra curse if it seems relevant. I double dip going frostbite and ele weakness on a storm brand activated curse setup.

    4) Reset the tree and pick the same ascendencies and all that. This time, try to hit reduced mana reservation if possible for curses, curse effect, etc, if they are as huge of a dps boost as pumping skill points in dmg. Remember to keep up your defenses - you are subbing out damage for auras, not defenses for auras!

    5) Trade league specific, but are there any cluster jewels or 4/6L uniques that make this build pop? PoB can be used for this, search unique by total dps :) You can put in some big dps increase jewels and then take out cold damage, maybe you might find some hidden jewel notables, for a lack of better words.

The idea is to iterate. Put in a 6L, put in damage, check if 6L makes sense still, then figure out how to support the 6L, wipe the tree, put the defenses back in and path to more aura/cursey stuff. Then put in jewels, then again see what you get if you path to cluster jewels, aura/curse stuff, and straight damage.

How I learned how to identify bases, item levels, and influences to fill item slots for any build

I knew fuck all about this like five hours ago. Why do some items need i86 elder influence? Why not i82? Why do I want fingerless silk gloves vs other gloves? What the hell is Tacati? That is a beer? All these questions I came up with and tried to answer for myself, and I hope this helps you.

    1) How do you know which bases to pick up, assuming the same ilvl?

    2) How do I know which influences are good on that base, and which should I target?

    3) Do different bases influence differently?

    4) How do you know what ilvl to pick up?

    5) How do you do the initial craft?

    6) How do you do the cleanup of affixes, whether it's a lucky annul or more relevant, harvest crafting?

    7) How do I apply all of this to leveling gear? Whether it is the awkward stage between yellow and red maps, A10 to white maps, A5 to A6, etc.

I'm going to do two case studies, that are relevant for ME, and should hopefully be universal to all crafting. One should be more challenging for me personally, and the other one should be more straight forward. The way I broke up these questions should make these universal for ANY build.

    Case Study 1

Context: a life/ES hybrid glancing blow cold dot spellcaster wants a great shield. Something that offers great defense, QoL (i.e. sustain, movespeed, etc), and damage would be awesome.

    1) How do you know what bases to pick up?

Well, in this case you look at what benefits you the most. Likely ES, maybe armor. So look for an INT/STR or INT based shield. Lets be simple and say you want an int based shield as to make things simple. While a titanium spirit shield has more ES, a fossilized spirit shield has more damage due to the implicit at the cost of some ES.

    2) How do I know which influences are good on that base, if any, and which should I target?

Checking poedb.tw/us/mod.php, we have a ton of information. Way too much. We know we want a int based shield, and I'll assume all int based shields can be influenced, even a twig spirit shield with 5 ES. Shaper shields give recovery of life or ES on block, which you can take advantage of as your block will be pretty high. Elder shields give 1% increased damage per attack block chance, increased maximum life, additional armor, or a CWDT set up! Crusader shields give 1% inc damage per block again, and %ES on block. Redeemer shields give a % faster start to ES recharge – while nice…we are life/ES hybrid, not the most useful, but they offer a ton of offensive benefits like increased aura/curses. Hunter shields give inc max life, charge on block, or regen. Warlord gives life on block. Incursion shields can give more cold damage. Delve shields can have a ton of QoL like + level of gems, inc effect of curses, corrupted blood cant be afflicted on you, etc. Bench craft provides more simple benefits to round out the item, nothing game changing I'd think. Essence crafting has some interesting affixes it can hit, like chill nearby enemies, gain a power charge on block, % chance to block, etc.

I'd make a case that delve shields could be nice for QoL, but conqueror or shaper/elder shields might be better for us for damage/defenses. As far as defenses go, you'd probably value the life on block than ES, but really…it's whatever is bigger. If you have 4k life and 2k ES go life on block. If 2k life and 4k ES, go ES on block – either way a shaper shield can hit both, or go crusader for ES or warlord for life. If you value damage, elder/crusader is like a free Command of Steel anoint, and that might be very powerful. In this case, a crusader shield provides you damage AND defenses…so that's a pretty good bet.

    3) Do different bases influence differently?

In SSF, you might not get a crusader influenced ES shield. You might get a Crusader influenced str/dex shield. Well, I am like 99% sure the only difference is within the base and not the influence. That is to say, the base str/dex cannot roll mana or cast speed. So it is not ideal, but you can get a crusader influenced str/dex shield and use it, but you might lose out on things like you want like mana, ES, cast speed, etc.

    4) How do you know what ilvl to pick up?

Well, we determined that we want crusader because it gives us two juicy affixes! % damage based on % block chance, and ES on block. Even though you likely have more life than ES, even if you only have 1000 ES you will gain 30-50 ES on block, and you get a ton of damage. On an ilvl68+ item, you can have both of these affixes according to poedb. That means on your very first Baran kill you might get a usable base! If instead you wanted increased warcry buff affects and the % inc damage per block chance, you'd need to wait until an i75 base drops!

    5) How do you do the initial craft?

This is where all of my uncertainty goes out the window because I feel like crafting is more of an art than a science. In Harvest league, you'd probably want to guarantee the mods that aren't tagged than are tagged. If all you really care about is the damage prefix, you cant alt spam to craft it on there, or chaos spam. Step by step harvest crafting is going to be tough for me to explain because theres so many different things that can happen, but theres three things I'd try and do. Alt orb to get the prefix %inc damage per % block chance, regal. There is a LOT of good things you can target hit on this like life, +cold spell skill gems, %inc cold damage, life, ES. The important thing is to fill the prefixes all the way because there'd be a 20% chance that augment defense would give ES on block. When you fill your prefixes, it goes all the way to 50% chance because you'd either hit ES on block or ES recovery per second, equal weightings for both. Whatever happens, don't scour, because you'd have to alt spam or chaos spam again to hit increased damage per block chance.

    6) How do you clean it up?

I'd imagine pre harvest you'd have to rely on annul or multimodding to make sure you get what you really want. Targetting annul is super powerful, as is add-replace. For example, if you literally add remove life enoough you will hit T1 life on ilvl73+ bases. If you do remove caster add caster you will hit cast speed, +1 spell skill gems, or ele damage. That means over time, you can literally hit +1 all cold spell skill gems. The only thing I'd be careful of is remove defense add defense, because depending on your item and any open affixes you might remove the % ES we worked hard to get to.

    7) How do I know what items to get? What is my item progression like?

In organic chemistry we work backwards sometimes. Let's do that here. We wanted crusader i73+ fossilized spirit shield specifically because of the implicit spell damage, and the prefix/suffix block combination that gives defenses and offenses. That means any of the following (or similar) can be useful for us:

    • Any base shield that is crusader, elder, or shaper influenced

    • Any int base shield.

So maybe during leveling that means you grab any int based shield and slap on an essenece of "woe" or "greed", then as you get into maps you try to get an elder based shield, which you can chaos spam or alt spam or just take it as is and try and harvest shield a craft. This means if I could think of a BiS shield, lets say… +1 to all cold spell (P), % inc damage per % block (P), max life (P), some res (S), some res (S), recover ES on block (S) could be literally ilvl 73 as its gated by T1 life! Wow.

Phew, that was fun. Lets do it again, but addressing the elephant in the white room. How the fuck do you craft a huge 2h for a slammer?

Okay, lets challenge myself. I literally HATE, HATE HATE making an attack based character. Why? Because I have to craft throughout the game, loot relevant bases, and I didn't know which bases to pick up and which means to craft. So let's tackle it.

    Case Study 2

Context: A twohandy ice crash slammer. What I assume this means? Phys damage and elemental penetration as iirc all phys converts to cold.

    1) How do you know which bases to pick up, assuming the same ilvl?

Mace – 2h mace Imperial Maul has 140.2 p dps. Axe – Karui chopper has 159.8 p dps. Sword – Vaal greatsword 136.5 p dps. Staff – Maelstrom staff has 136.2 p dps but gives 25% chance to block attack damage. Okay, that answers why everyone loves axes. The base itself is just better. Though it also makes sense why Steelmage went for a staff for his EQ jugg iirc...blocky slammer.

    2) How do I know which influences are good on that base, and which should I target? I think all we care about is flat phys, % increased phys, attack speed, ele pen, and maybe if we can add extra "links".

Okay just like the bases, lets go through. Shaper gives ele pen, inc chance to give double damage, onslaught. Elder gives extended links, culling strike, inc AoE, and some crit strike chance/multi. Crusader gives phys damage w/ leech and warcry stuff. Redeemer gives % phys as extra cold damage, could be good. Hunter penetrates ele resist, and warcry stuff. Warlord gives phys damage and attack speed, as well as culling strike. A delve mod gives more cold penetration, and a incursion mod gives Tacatis as a TON of %inc phys, but Im not sure if the chaos will be good.

    3) Do different bases influence differently?

I think since we are looking at axes vs axes, the answer will be no. Base vs base….axe gives bleeding vs poison for swords apparently.

    4) How do you know what ilvl to pick up?

Well, I really like elder as a 2h axe influence. I am not sure how popular that is, though! Fortify or onslaught(p), flat phys (p), % inc phys (p), attack speed (s), culling strike (s) and critstrike chance/multi would be AMAZING I'd bet. Maybe I am undervaluing shaper/hunters ele pen. Merciless needs 83, and all the other elder mods are like 68 or 75, so that's a good thing to keep in mind.

    5) How do you do the initial craft?

…This I need help with. Out of my area of comfort. Fossil crafting maybe on an elder base? Jagged Serrated Corroded Prismatic looks good to me, but I truly don't know.

    6) How do you do the cleanup of affixes, whether it's a lucky annul or more relevant, harvest crafting?

Like I said, this is out of my comfort zone. A lot of these share so many modifiers, I'd assume its MEGA expensive. Id imagine alt spam, aug, regal, scour etc is the king here. I have no idea how harvest crafting is a thing because everything good shares a tag, its kinda crazy. Maybe theres a lot of blocking that you can target annul.

    7) How do I apply all of this to leveling gear?

I'd imagine this is pretty straight forward, and that a 5L high dps weapon is better than a low or medium 6L weapon. Keep getting better and better axe bases, rustic sash them. Essence of sorrow or flat phys I'd assume would be good essences while you get better and better bases. Then look at getting a karui chopper, then maybe get one with an elder or crusader mod, and then try to get an i83+ one for Merciless.

    The End

If you read this far, I want to thank you all for being so incredibly helpful. Streamers are helpful, entertaining, but the real knowledge comes from this sub, PoE build sub, General 4, and PoE discord when I annoy the shit out of everyone with dumb questions.

Help on self curse HH occultist

    Posted: 28 Jul 2020 01:49 PM PDT

Hey, guys. I'm planning on making a self curse temp chains occultist. I was thinking of using blade vortex as a main skill, so I tried crafting a bow with gem levels. I was looking for +1 to strength gem/ +1 dex gem/ +1 to socketed gem and I'd bench craft +2 to socketed support gems (for empower). I got the bow from the picture https://imgur.com/a/XsocE4C , with +2 to bow gems instead of support. I can't use that on blade vortex, right? Is there any other skill that could use this with self curse HH?

I managed to take down Shaper with my very own build. I'm looking for critique.

    Posted: 28 Jul 2020 09:36 AM PDT

The build itself is pretty cookie cutter, I have to admit. I invested ~20ex in it. I'm pretty satisfied with how it turned out.

It's a physical skeli build. I wanted to include To Dust in the build. In fact that was where it started, I sort of built it around the jewel.

Currently it has a respectable 1.6 mil dps per skeli including impale with a 100% chance to impale(that's what pob shows at least) with a max of 10 summoned skelies.

The settings in Configuration tab of pob are the mininum sustainable stuff:

    • Feeding frenzy which I get from the Carrion golem and Spectres.

    • Frenzy Charges provided by the specters(Carnage Chieftain)

    • Enemy is intimidated via awakened melee physical damage gem.

If I set Pride to Maximum Effect and Enable Avian's Might it jumps to 3 mil per skeli. But that's debatable since Avian is in a permanent rotation and most mobs don't stay inside pride radius for long enough to get the full effect.

    As far as survivability goes:

    • A respectable 5.3k life.

    • 75% block and 70% spell block IF bone offering is up(with increased duration it lasts 12 seconds so it's fairly easy to maintain).

    • Divine Flesh helps with elemental damage(88% chaos resistance - in POB the equiped shield has +13% to max chaos resistance to offset the Divine Flesh buff which doesn't work in POB)

    • The usual meat shield of zombois provides some protection(unless projectiles fork)

    • 3 to min endurance charges provided by jun mod on 2 x rings + amulet => 3 permanent endurance charges without the need for warcrys. Physical damage is still problematic if it's not blocked. The occasional 1 shot happens.

Pob without Max pride effect and Avian's Might: https://pastebin.com/nLV048kE

Pob with Max pride effect and Avian's Might: https://pastebin.com/BaV7tSBE - This is mostly for show since it's rarely going to be max pride. Avian's Might happens but has a cooldown of 6 seconds so it's not reliable for burst damage.

This build could have probably been done better. Since it's my first one, I'm quite pleased with the result.

Any suggestions on what to improve are more than welcome.

    Begginer build

    Posted: 28 Jul 2020 04:08 PM PDT

    Hi

I'm very new to this game (played less than 6h) i actually play duelist and i'm following a build aiming to be a slayer cyclone. Can I clear all the content with it ? I saw that the two others ascendencies have a cyclone build too what are the main differencies between them ?

Thanks for reading me and for your answers

Returning player: could use some help getting into this league

    Posted: 28 Jul 2020 11:43 AM PDT

Hey all. Let me preface this by saying that I re-downloaded the game last night after being gone for about a year and a half.

The last build that I had a TON of fun playing was dual wield cobra lash assassin. I loved the ranged aspect of the skill, but i don't know how viable cobra lash is for this league.

could you guys link me to/suggest a build with great clear speed/survivability for Harvest? Ideally with a primary skill that plays similarly to cobra lash assassin? I loved playing melee with a ranged skill that does DoT when I used to play.

thanks in advance. really appreciate any suggestions.

    Need something for challenges?!?

I have maybe 25ex to spend for a build. I'd prefer not minions or mines. And not BV.

    Thanks for any input...
