/r/pathofexile is looking for new moderators!

    Posted: 28 Jul 2020 07:21 AM PDT

    Hi again everyone!

/r/pathofexile has continued to grow over the past year and since Exilecon's announcement of POE2, has only gained traction. Despite that, our team has actually shrunk!. Either due to moderators retiring or stepping down (or GGG stealing them :P). As such, we need a few more hands on deck to help keep an eye on things. Specifically we're looking for about four new moderators this time around, but that does not mean that we won't consider more than that if we find the right people. We have key openings anywhere between 4AM to 12PM UTC, likely meaning you live in east Asia or Oceania unless you work the graveyard shift. All other times will still be considered, that's just where we need some new mods the most.

    What do mods do?

Our primary goal is to minimise spam and unpleasant behaviour on the subreddit. As a mod, your biggest task will be going through the moderation queue — a list of all threads and comments that users have reported or the automod has picked up — determining whether the posts break the subreddit's rules, and taking action accordingly. Most of the time this means either deleting or approving the post or comment, though sometimes the post or comment will warrant a ban or other action. Ideally you would also be able to spend some time browsing /new and removing rule-breaking posts as they come up, especially around patch releases when the sub is at its busiest.

Other mod duties include responding to user questions and concerns via mod mail (and sometimes other channels), and joining the rest of the mod team in our Discord server to discuss anything moderation related.

    Who are we looking for?

Good mod candidates have most or all of the following:

    • A history of activity. You need to be an active /r/pathofexile member to have a good understanding of the sub. We don't have any strict requirements for how long you've been here, how much you post, your account karma, etc., but we will be taking a look at your posting history.

    • Availability. While we don't expect you to devote a ton of time to actively modding, you do need to be able to check the sub and/or respond to notifications for a reasonable amount of the day. As said in the opener, we have open slots around the clock but 4AM to 12PM UTC needs the most assistance. The goal is to have at least two people per time slot so that if one isn't available we don't have the mod queue filling up for 6-9 hours.

    • Civility, objectivity and communication skills. You need to be able to make decisions without bias, and clearly communicate those decisions and the reasoning behind them to users (including very angry users) without losing your cool.

    • Thick skin. Being a mod means you're going to get insulted on a regular basis. It's absolutely unavoidable, and you have to be able to shrug that off rather than becoming upset or angry. Additionally, you need to respond to these insults on reddit with civility, no matter what the original comment is.

You don't need previous moderation experience, but if you have any (on reddit or elsewhere) please do mention it!

    How to apply

Just reply to this post! Please include the hours (UTC) that you're usually available, your Discord username (we use Discord as our primary avenue of communication), and a quick summary of why you'd make a good mod. Please don't nominate other users (though feel free to encourage them to apply themselves).

If you have questions about modding which aren't covered above, please reply to my comment below or via PM/modmail. Other top level comments which aren't applications will be removed for the sake of organization.

    Thank you!

Buy a bunch of random/krangled ones for 1-3c, then list the 10 quantity ones for 9c.. when the bot wants to buy (which is in 99% cases).. they don't care.. they pay 9c for any random "junk" ones Sadima's.

Made 200c in the last half an hour like that.. it is boring as hell.. but it's honest work! :P LOL

The tale of two leagues, currency explosions on a hardcore schedule, and deterministic crafting on a casual schedule

    Posted: 28 Jul 2020 06:19 AM PDT

So I was listening to the Baeclast post-interview show on my commute to work this morning, and I couldn't help but end up a little upset about the mixed opinions of deterministic crafting. I'm going to preface this with a quick story.

During Delirium, I was working from home for almost the entire league. Normally, I have 2 hours of commuting time, and often work more than 9 hours a day. I have a couple hours a night to play PoE after work, and that's if I don't take the night off to hang out with my fiancé. Work from home allowed me to game at a level I had never had the time to play at since I was in high school. I got some high-priced build enabling uniques early in league, got lucky with some big crafts and was stacking exalts hand over fist (for a casual player anyways). During the league, I pretty much min-maxed every slot right down to viridian jewels. I meta-crafted 3 items to basically perfection. It was so cool.

I want emphasis on this point. I had never had the chance to do this, because I never had the currency, because I worked 9 hour days with an hour commute on each side of it. I'm not playing this game as my job.

Now to say Harvest crafting is too easy, isn't fully a stretch. But why should it be hard? Because the top 1% of players who have about half as many days played as the league has been out want a "journey" towards a better item? For the casual, every item is a journey. I finished my PCOC, splodey, spell crit and curse chest Sunday night. I had to use a good number of harvest crafts to finish it, and I saved them up for the entire season. This doesn't even count linking it and buying the bases and the awakener orb. I grinded half the season for this, and it's sick. I don't feel like I didn't earn it.

I blow thru red maps, juice them, spawn and kill conquerors and sirus as quickly as possible. I haven't seen a single woke orb, awakened gem, conqueror exalt all season. No 6 link in harvest. My last exalt dropped Thursday July 9th. All my money is made off crafting VD imbued wands, and lucky chaos spamming in the garden. And things like that. Without Harvest mechanic, I would be dead broke still trying to link my chest piece I mentioned above.

During Harvest, I'm back to my commute, back to my casual schedule, and still gearing up pretty well. I will probably "finish" this character right at season end. And he will have ridiculously OP gear. But unless you have 6+ hours a day to play PoE. You aren't going to GG/finish a character in a 3 month non-harvest league. And I don't see any reason why it shouldn't be possible for the casual player to do so. Thanks for reading if you made it this far ✌️

Why are Syndicate members allowed to teleport away if they arent killed in 10seconds?

    Posted: 28 Jul 2020 06:54 AM PDT

Syndicate members are already dangerous in high tier maps, especially if the map is rippy. There is no need to punish players for being careful or having low dmg..

[Discussion] Harvest crafting is great because it's rare to take giant backwards steps.

    Posted: 28 Jul 2020 09:31 AM PDT

I don't particularly care whether one likes or dislikes how the crafts are obtained, so let's ignore that for now. Whether it's the garden as it is now, or beating bosses to upgrade your exalts into firey exalts like Tarke wants, it's immaterial.

What I don't want to see disappear is the gradual progress towards an item. So much of crafting before Harvest was a case of pouring a huge amount of money into a base (which is fine), then having to do one thing (usually an exalt or annul) that either makes the item absolutely amazing and done, or nearly done... Or completely ruins the item, and you have to start over from nothing.

The fact that I can drop a T1T1 crit amulet in SSF, and have a complete plan for how to make it a usable amulet, even though it will take me weeks, is what has made me craft, this league. Before this, my crafting has been limited to saving up currency for that one item craft, and never having enough by the end of a trade league.

[Question] does map quantity affect seed cache drop rate?

    Posted: 28 Jul 2020 12:58 PM PDT

I know that the tier of the map affects how many seeds drop. Also the general consensus is that the map quant affects the number of t2,3 and 4 seeds when you actually harvest but does map quantity affect the actual number of seeds gained from caches themselves?

I have heard a lot of conflicting info on this so if anyone can clear it up it would be much appreciated.

Mini project from a casual player: IRL with PoE playtime.

    Posted: 27 Jul 2020 08:05 PM PDT

Mini project from a casual player: IRL with PoE playtime.

I'm a casual player with a full-time job with a mini family: my wife, and my dog. She works outside and I have a home-office job, so we spend time separated from each other throughout the day, when she arrives you see I must spend some quality time with her. But I don't give up on gaming, I like to play PoE at my own pace while maintaining a relatively low-level downtime.

I'm not the most efficient player but I try to play as fast as I can to keep a low-level downtime, so after roughly 2 hours combined between IRL activities and PoE playtime, this is my loot tab:

    https://preview.redd.it/xn6p4cbagid51.png?width=660&format=png&auto=webp&s=ca3a428953056ca75aa2bd07c7acb5decafe2e98

This is the dissection of the following tab:

    • Started mapping at 21:00:

    IRL downtime:

    • 21:00 - 21:02 -> searching for some youtube content. Picking up Bob Ross videos to have on background, that son of a gun makes everything much enjoyable.
    • 21:36 -> helping my wife with dinner.
    • 21:57 -> having dinner, watching some movie for a while, chatting about life.
    • 22:36 -> go back to mapping.
    • 22:38 - 22:39 -> selling a Lioneye's Remorse, continue to mapping.

    Finish:

    • 23:05 -> defeating Al-Hezmin

    Total time:

    • ~1-hour playing.
    • ~ 1 hour of IRL stuff.

    Total encounters:

    • 2 metamorph boss.
    • 3 legion monolith.
    • 2 delirium portal.
    • 2 Vaal side areas.
    • 1 Blight encounter.

    Total maps:

    • 12 maps.

    Strategy:

    • JUST ALCH AND GO. Rerolling in case the map rolled reflect/reduce life regen/reduce max resistances, well you name it, all those dangerous mods.

    Conquerors defeated:

    • Veritania (6 maps cycle)
    • Al-Hezmin (4 maps cycle)

    Outcomes:

    • 11 Chaos -> 6c from Lioneye's Remorse sell, everything else dropped.
    • 1 Divine -> from Legion monolith.
    • 71 Alteration orbs + 9 shards -> this is from drops and id/vendoring rares picked from the ground. That's why I consider quite important picking rares from the ground, you not only can find something useful but they sell for alteration shards and alchemy shards depending on the mods they have. 71 can't be much but if you are way faster than me you can generate even more alterations.
    • 33 Transmutation orbs + 5 shards-> I pick them up just for the Wisdom Scrolls.
    • 8 Alchemy orbs + 15 alterations -> from drops and from vendoring picked up rares.
    • 1 Orb of Annulment.
    • 6 Scours.
    • 2 Glassblower's Bauble.
    • 5 Regals.
    • 1 Engineer's Orb.
    • 1 Orb of Horizons.
    • 11 Fusings.
    • 4 Vaal orbs.
    • 11 Chromes.
    • 9 chisels.
    • 13 Silver coins.
    • 1 Simple and 1 Awakened Sextant.
    • 34 Augmentation orbs.
    • 55 Jeweller's Orbs.
    • 18 Orbs of Chance
    • 4 Blessed Orbs.
    • 1 Gemcutter's Prism -> this is from vendoring some qualitied gems. For newer players: if you vendor a certain amount of qualitied gems that makes 40% quality in total, you'll have a Gemcutter's Prism as a reward from NPC.
    • 44 Legion splinters in total and 13 delirium splinters.
    • 3 catalysts
    • 1 Deli Orb.
    • 11 Incubators.
    • 7 oils.
    • 5 essences.
    • 14 sac fragments.
    • 2 small cluster jewels.
    • 17 red maps (from T14 to t16 including a Shaper Guardian map). Whenever you can never EVER skip the bosses (unless bosses like Kitava on Lava Lake, or Eater of Souls from Core map, they are stupid and dangerous), you can find very good map outcomes, even Synthesis unique maps (I found 2 Cortex maps just by killing map bosses).
    • 2 Organs from Metamorph encounters.
    • 5 divination cards -> 2 "Her Mask" + 3 "Emperor's Luck"
    • 220 seeds.
    • 1 Thief's Torment + 1 Kikazaru unique rings.

    Conclusion points:

    • For those who have a life apart from playing PoE and somehow complain about having only some spare hours each day to play while gaining no currency, let me tell you that you can be even more efficient than me and generate even MORE currency. But as you can see, if you have at least 1 hour for just playing PoE (take into account I had 1 hour of downtime while doing IRL stuff) you can't deny that the currency is there waiting for you. This is not as incredible as it seems, you can find some PoE players that generate WAY MORE CURRENCY than me in less time.
    • DO THE SIDE CONTENT. Side content is as important as the main league mechanic. I didn't interact with Harvest during that time, I focused on Vaal side areas (for sacrificial fragments), Legion, Blight, and Delirium encounters (for several rewards). I do this every time I can while running maps to maximize my rewards.
    • Play at your own pace. I've taken my time to pick up rares, id/vendoring them, putting stuff on the tab when my inventory ran full, going back to maps to pick up more rares and stuff. Play fast, but don't rush yourself.

I hope this little information post helps casual players and to demonstrate that if you keep your downtime as low as possible while focusing on gaming, you can obtain great rewards.

    Cheers!

    Edit:

As some users asked me in the comments, here are some other details:

    1. a photo of my dog:

His name is Morrison, like Jim Morrison from The Doors. One of his legs got broken because of a car crash and didn't heal well as he is an energetic dog. So it looks like \"twisted\" haha

    2) This is a single sample session, /u/lmaogoaway suggested that would be nice to record this session at least 10 more times to compare the odds. This would make the project more realistic in terms of average outcomes and what can expect the players to get with just alc and go mapping. I'll do that maintaining the same format, 2 hours sample while trying to get at least an hour of plain gaming coupled with IRL stuff if anything happens in the middle.

    3) Some other stuff I didn't put in the post:

    • No sextants, no scarabs, no fragments, no chisels. Just alc and go maps.
    • Atlas stats: A8, 149/154 in terms of map completion and 146/154 in terms of awakening objectives. This important if you want to gain maps in return while mapping. Remember that having awakening objectives completed increases the modifier of non-unique maps an this will affect your quantity/rarity too while affecting the other map mods as well. Awakening levels augment the odds of getting map drops during your sessions.
    • In terms of map device mods, I have just used the standard increased quantity, I didn't want to involve other mods on the map (Anarchy, Breach, Ambush, Nemesis, Harbinger, Metamorph or Legion respectively).
    • For maps, I ran T14s mostly and some T15/T16. I should have recorded this, which maps were the ones I ran, I'm sorry for not doing it.

    4) In terms of side content, the only ones I did are the ones I've listed in the post. I didn't interact with Harvest, not even once just for the purpose of pure mapping and looting. Interacting with Harvest would take some more time that I didn't want to spend just for this project.

    5) The tab sorting was not recorded while doing this, was some time off that I spent after finishing the mini-project after killing Al-Hazem. It took me like 30 more mins to get everything sorted and recorded on a text file.

Molten Strike DPS with Slower Projectiles test

    Posted: 28 Jul 2020 02:18 AM PDT

3.11 Harvest patch changed how molten strike works with slower projectiles support gem and i decided to test how is it compared to the "normal" setup.

ideally you want to swap conc effect with slower projectiles, because conc effect reduce both the projectile distance and AOE while slower proj only reduce the distance.

but my build is useing a helmet for the 6L setup, it has conc effect and immolate built in so i had to swap another gem.

EDWA (Elemetal Damage With Attacks) has chosen because the only other options were combustion and multistrike, both are better for my build.

before testing it in game i wanted to check the online molten strike calculator to get some numbers, apparently it got updated with the new changes to wildfire and slower proj, which means more accurate results hopefully.

    Calc results for total DPS:

    EDWA: ~5.2m

    Slower proj: ~5.9m

the calc shows that slower proj yields 13% higher DPS overall compared to EDWA, not a huge margin as i suspected.

    Actual DPS in game:

so i hopped in-game and made a small test between the two by running a mino map for each setup.

mino felt the best option as the boss has a big life pool and the it is very stationary during the phase-less fight.

the dps was measured by dividing the boss life by the time to kill of each setup.

mino has base life of 32.5m (according to wiki), with awakening level 8 bosses have 24% more life, so 32.5X1.24=40.3m .

time to kill with EDWA was 8.98 seconds, 40.3/8.98=4.487 or about 4.5m dps.

with slower projectiles it took 7.38 seconds to kill mino, 40.3/7.38=5.46 so about 5.5m dps.

    5.46/4.487=1.217, almost 22% more damage.

now that is a big difference! surely worth considering the swap for single target.

the difference between the total dps increase from the calc and in-game could be due to inaccurate testing, and remember that i only did this once.

#Important note: mapping with both conc effect and slower proj felt bad, the projectiles land very close to you, which ideal for single target but not so much for mapping.

faster projectiles did make the projectiles land much futher than the normal setup, but you do feel the lose in damage compared to EDWA and SlwProj.

i also swapped the legacy wildfire with the new one, projectiles got to the edge of the screen, so coverage was nice, but the damage was really low because you lose 50% of your projectiles, and in a build which scales dps purely by projectiles it pretty much 50% less damage.

TL;DR: slower projectiles support gem is better than elemental damage with attacks for single target in a build that scales purely of projectile damage.

the video: Single target test on mino

    calc results: https://imgur.com/a/bxJrYqG

*test was done in Standard with legacy gear, your mileage may vary with different builds and/or projectiles count.
