PoE's design shift away from "economy is everything" is the right kind of design evolution. Posted: 10 Jul 2020 03:23 AM PDT I'll begin by labeling myself a perennial 12 challenge player, meaning I don't play every update, and when I do play I seldom go above 24 or below 12 challenges. I've been around since open beta and despite most of my demographic lamenting the zoom zoom design shift, I'd like to instead highlight something that has really stood out to me every new update I play. I'd also like to mention that I'm intentionally not talking too much about the "grey economy" of selling services, partially because it's proof that GGG can't completely create content separated from the economy, and partially because I'm so tired of interacting with the economy these days I'll gladly ignore many of these services if I can. The way the game used to be, "Itemize Everything" was GGG's unique method of spotlighting the economy. I'm not even talking about endgame either; before crafting benches were a thing I always lamented the "Merciless Lioneye's watch gear wall", stopping your progression cold to trade for some life on gear and balance your resists. The old design of high-tier maps reflected this (red are impossible to sustain, people who buy them are paying for the XP, if you don't want the XP you're better off selling them), and every major boss from every major expansion right up until uber elder (I think?) were inherently tied to tradeable items. I understand the original intent of this design was to create massive weight to each endgame encounter - "this boss is worth XX chaos on the market" really makes you respect the encounter, it's not just "the next boss that you can come into blind", you really have to research it. At the same time however, it put a lot of arbitrary barriers to engaging in the endgame content. When the choice is between selling the encounter for a massive boon to your gearing or doing the encounter and possibly getting an Atziri's Promise or even simply failing the encounter (both basically mean you get nothing), to me at least it always made more sense to just sell the encounter, maybe do it later if I get a chance to. At some point however, there was a very noticeable shift towards gating content behind doing content. Betrayal. Your board is your board, you can't buy or sell your board. You have to take the time to make it yourself. Delve, your depth is your depth, you can't just buy a "450 depth delve stone" and do depth 450, you have to work for it. Sirus and the Conquerers, you have to run maps to get these encounters, and to get to Awakening level 8 it takes a significant number of specific maps done. Also important, these encounters can't be sold, so when you get a Sirus fight available, or when you find an Delve boss node, or when you spawn a double corruption chamber, you might as well engage with them, even if you're not super efficiently profiting off of them, 'cause they disappear if you don't. From my experience in the last few patches, I've been engaging in a LOT more different bits of content I normally would just sell off, and I suspect this shift towards economy-separate content is because I'm not the only one. Which brings me to Harvest, which is actually my first foray into crafting my own gear because - again - harvest crafts don't have an inherent tie to the economy, so I'm not really losing anything by throwing 15 chaos crafts at my current pet project. Developing my garden at my own pace, building a library of horticrafts, slowly accumulating more difficult and (inherently) rewarding seeds, it all feels a lot like Delve or Betrayal, and I'm loving it. I'm not sure if Harvest is going core in it's current shape (though I'd love it to simply be a new Master), but I certainly hope that by the time PoE 2 rolls around (probably the next expansion I'll partake in unless something really catches my fancy), they'll have incorporated the lessons learned with Harvest into the crafting system. To close, old PoE felt like I was constantly waiting for that windfall valuable item drop to upgrade my build so I can do more content more easily. No windfall, build is too weak to progress, I lose interest and quit early. In Harvest, for the first time ever I'm well on my way to A8 Sirus to do end game content, with zero raw high-value drops. Just buying 20-50c bases, horticrafting them until they're an upgrade, then moving to the next upgrade project. Come to think of it, outside exalted orbs, there really isn't any universal "windfall drops" anymore, is there? Everything that's valuable is tied to doing content, and many of that content comes at me in a "use it now or lose it forever" kind of way, like Delirium mirrors. For the first time in a long time, I'm getting excited to see what the next updates bring. [link] [comments]

Posted: 10 Jul 2020 06:24 AM PDT I am well aware that there are unique jewels that can be really good for builds and flasks are extremely valuable, however with the rng involved with the rare item quest rewards, you generally get gear that is literally worthless that you just end up selling back to the same person who gave you the quest reward. My suggestion is to guarantee some life/energy shield rolls and some minor resistance values on the set gear, it would never be above a certain tier of rolls but the items themselves would still help and reward the player for completing those quests, maybe depending on the item type it would guarantee a certain set of prefixes. An energy shield belt would roll energy shield and some resistances for example while a leather belt would make a life roll and resistances roll [link] [comments]

How to craft +5 PCOC Lightning Gems Staves w/ Harvest Crafting Posted: 10 Jul 2020 11:37 AM PDT As I recently sold off my HoT gear I saw that there was very few staves listed with my mods. https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/263067686953549825/731093368796348466/unknown.png So I'm going to make a thread on how exactly to craft these so you don't get scammed into buying ones listed at extreme prices. Starting off with the not so easy-easy part. Alt spamming. Step 1. Alt spam on an iLVL 78 Elder Eclipse Staff base, until you hit +2 to All Spell Skill Gems Step 2. Imprint using a Craicic Chimeral and regal until you hit a bad suffix. Step 3. Craft on Multimod, Cannot Roll Attack Mods and Flat lightning to Spells. Step 4. Augment a lightning modifier with Harvest crafting. Step 5. If you hit +3 congrats you are done. Now just Augment a crit modifier and boom you have a +5 PCOC prefix base. But if you don't and you hit either +2, or %lightning damage follow the next steps. Step 6. Now that you hit either % Lightning or +2, you need to stockpile some Remove Lightning add Lightning crafts and repeat until one of two things happen.
Then for the suffixes I would highly recommend unless you got exalts to burn just multimod on Global Crit Multi and either 6% Damage per Power Charge or 10% Double Damage. Happy crafting! [link] [comments]
Posted: 09 Jul 2020 10:54 PM PDT Hey everyone, here's a list of all the mods that had their mods tags changed as a part of the 3.11.1b update For a vast majority of the mods, it is just either adding the "attack'" tag to them or the "attack" + "caster" tags [link] [comments]

PS4 crashes are out of control Posted: 10 Jul 2020 07:03 AM PDT I'm curious, is the PC version of PoE as crashy? On PS4, I'm seeing about 1 crash (sometimes 2) an hour. It's SUPER frustrating, and seems to be happening more often with the latest patch. Doesn't seem to be anything specific that causes a crash, just doing seemingly random stuff will blow it up.
