Some interesting tidbits about the hideout characters for those who never read dialogues

    Posted: 11 Oct 2020 04:06 AM PDT

So I was talking with my friends about some of the interesting little things the hideout masters say when you talk to them, and to my surprise I found that I'm the only one to listen to their dialogue. So I thought "hey, maybe there's others that don't listen to the dialogue that would be interested in this", and I've compiled a small list of funny/interesting character dialogue.

    - Alva and Einhar use similar magic -blood thaumaturgy- for which Alva was exiled because she didn't want the templar to have access to time travel. They use it in very different ways though, but Einhar find their work to be somewhat similar, just in different times. Alva is just thankful that Einhar limits his application of blood thaumaturgy to beasts, but remarks that he would have fit right in with the Vaal.

"It is as if we are two heads on the same hound, but her head is where the butt should be!"

    - Unsurprisingly, Niko creeps everyone out, with the exception of Einhar. Surprisingly though, Helena expresses some form of respect towards him, as she does towards Einhar for the same reasons : they are both very qualified in what they do, and she can appreciate that.

    - Most of the hideout gang is kind of worried about Alva, bringing up her lust for treasure. Zana sees a bit of her old self in Alva, and is worried that she'll end up making the same mistakes she did, while Jun outright questions your motives for associating with her and her greed. Helena describes Alva's greed as both "a blessing and a curse", saying that they would be able to do so much more than raid temples for treasure with her time travel, and yet her focused interest keeps the timeline stable.

    - Tane was a Karui child before becoming a slave. He was too young to learn much about his heritage, but he once got beaten so badly by his master that he came close to death. In a vision, he saw Navali talk to him and tell him that it was not his time yet, and since meeting her in Wreaclast, he's scared of looking at her eyes "because I can tell that she recognises me".

    - Cassia was high templar Dominus' thaumaturgist before she was exiled and replaced by Piety. She says that she doesn't resent Piety or Dominus for it, but it's clear that she's holding somewhat of a grudge against them. She calls Piety a whore in a dialogue, referencing the fact that Piety used to prostitue herself to fund her practices. Despite that, she doesn't rejoice in their demise, as she once called Dominus a friend, and Piety "had her own demons".

    - While we're on the topic of Piety, one of the Heist quest contracts from Faustus asks you to steal some incriminating papers from a certain Admiral Darnaw. Once the quest is complete, Faustus reads the papers and comments : "Hmm... Love letters? Well, nearly everyone's had their hand in Piety's cookie jar, so-to-speak, so that won't do." This to me suggests that Piety maybe didn't stop her practice of prostitution even after getting under Dominus' wing.

    - Baran the Crusader mentions in his will that he bequeathed his home in Oriath to his fellow templars, including Cassia, which implies that they knew each other.

    - Helena is very impressed with the work ethic and dedication of Einhar to his study of the beasts. One common thread in all of Helena's dialogues is that she respects and even admires dedication to one's work, and no one has worked harder than Einhar to understand Wreaclast's corruption through sheer empirical data. While Helena and other scientists are trying to find an equation or root cause to the corruption, he's getting his hands dirty by learning about and understanding every single corrupted animal, using "a humanistic brute force approach to a cosmic problem".

    - Despite his eccentricities, many have taken a liking to Einhar, Zana even stating that his actions come from a place of love. Einhar himself states that he loves everyone in the hideout, and he has been trying to cheer Zana up by acting like a father to her after she lost hers. Unfortunately, Einhar's definition of "father" is limited to bringing her a lot of "red and stringy" pieces of meat, to maintain her "red and stringy" hair. She fakes eating it to avoid hurting his feelings.

    - Jun's clan rules forbids her from ever getting involved with a man, but she remarks that they don't mention anything about women. She's got a bit of a crush on Zana, and dreams of having a life with her after her job is done. She's not very good at hiding it though, and Zana thinks that she is suspicious of her, because Jun tries to avoid her, doesn't look her in the eyes, and yet she's caught Jun staring at her. She asks "What can I do to win her over?", while Jun speaks of maybe adopting children with her once all is over.

    - Sadly, apart from Zana, Jun doesn't have much to say about the other characters, and vice-versa. She talks a bit about Janus Perandus though, who was taken by Jun's clan as an orphan. The fact that Janus is the only other survivor of her clan and now a member of the syndicate is a clear indication for her that he is the one that betrayed them, and led the syndicate to the Horns of Kulemak which allows them to revive.

    - As an aside about the Perandus family, despite his personal feelings towards him, Cadiro feels gratitude towards Izaro for allowing his family to access the throne without having royal blood. Despite being incredibly wealthy, the nobility of the Eternal Empire belittled the Perandus family for not having royal blood, so Izaro and his Labyrinth allowed the Perandus name to go down in history.

    - Helena remarks that Navali is a most curious case of the curse of wreaclast, having kept her sapience, intelligence and will despite being undead. When comparing her to the hordes of mindless zombies spread across Wreaclast, she wonders if her Karui essence is responsible, and Tane's story seems to support that idea.

    - Navali can see the future, and that fact causes some friction among the group. Jun in particular fails to understand why she does nothing to prevent the event she forsees, Alva wonders why she hasn't made them all increadibly wealthy yet, and Niko feels like Navali looks at him with pity, and fears that his end is near. Zana is more worried about the fact that she claims to be the agent of a god, as the gods don't have the best reputation in Wreaclast...

    - Most of the characters are worried about Niko and his exposure to Voltaxite Sulfite, but Zana and Jun have differing opinions about him. Jun thinks that there is a good person inside him, struggling to get out, but Zana, who knows a bit about madness herself, claims that Niko seems to be aware of what is happening to him and of the cause of it, and yet willingly continues to expose himself to it, craving it. Niko himself doesn't have much to say, as he dslikes most of the others with the exception of Zana.

And that's more or less everything! I hope this was a fun read for some. It's a shame not many know about these little interesting details despite all the work that went into those characters.

    Hey Everyone! You rock!

Oh my goodness what a great way to celebrate the milestone of 50 episodes! We had so much fun with this interview. In this episode, we interview Kamil Orman-Janowski, Music Director and Composer at Grinding Gear Games. If you've ever had the tingles from a league announcement, mystery box promo, teaser trailer, boss battle, or even your favourite encampment, it's courtesy of Kamil (The Tingler). Justin and I LOVE the music in PoE and had a million questions waiting for him...luckily for us he was very polite and was kind enough to pretend to like our company. We hope you enjoy the interview as much we did. Thanks Kamil! And thank you everyone for the listens.

    Posted: 11 Oct 2020 08:48 AM PDT

I really hope this is the last time we see a league based around the idea of 1 portal, not because of dying, but because of crashes

    Posted: 11 Oct 2020 12:37 PM PDT

I am tired of crashing and losing everything in Grand Heists on my way out after lockdown. I tried everything, and no matter what I do, I keep crashing on the way out on Grand Heists and I lose all investment, and I am more losing currency than I am gaining at this point because of it.

I am throwing in the towel, I cant keep playing like this. The only thing would keep me in league at this point is running deli maps because they are so cheap. But i can do that in standard.

So I am begging you GGG, to not ever again build a league around the idea of 1 portal, when your game is known to crash as much as it does, because its a real blow to the gut and irritates me so much when im on my out of a grand heist and crash, I don't even turn the game back on afterwards, I just leave the computer, its a very daunting feeling.

Maybe I am in the minority who feels this way, but I wanted to get this off my chest.

The Unveil system is severely flawed and needs improving or a rework.

    Posted: 10 Oct 2020 11:47 PM PDT

I love the idea of unveiling. You can potentially unlock a craft that be a major improvement over the basic crafts, or find niche crafts that can encourage build creativity. Unfortunately, I feel the system that's currently in place has quite a few flaws:

    1. The tier system (1-3_for unveils unnecessary and confusing. Are some crafts 3 tiers and others 1? How do we know without using the wiki? What purpose is the tier system serving? Why does the tier bar only fill a certain amount (which isn't explicitly labeled)

    2. There are too many unveils. Combine this point with #1 and you get triple the amount.

    3. Most unveils feel insignificant. I'm sure every craft has its place somewhere, but in most cases the unveil will be unused.

    4. Getting to the unveil window is innefficient. If I'm unveiling thousands(?) of items, it would be nice to have a better means to do it.

I complain because I believe there is a better system, or at least an improved one. Here are my ideas:

    1. Eliminate the tier system. Make the craft immediate upon unveil. Rare crafts can do a tier system of 2 or 3 unveils, but instead of filling the exp bar up multiple times from t1-3, place a marker along the "experience bar" so you at least know exactly how many more unveils you need..

    2. Reduce the amount of veiled crafts. There are simply too many. Alternatively, introduce a means to choose the craft you want - maybe through a betrayal reward or a super rare drop from betrayal encounters.

    3. Make the "unveil items" text bigger in Jun's window.

I have tried to engage with this content but always seem to quit at one point or another because of the above reasons. Hopefully it can be tweaked! stay sane exile

Don't bring Niles to your Death to Darnaw unless you want it bricked. Level Nenet to 4 instead.

    Posted: 11 Oct 2020 12:31 AM PDT

So, this one is sadly personal experience. Everyone knows Niles is bugged as hell, but you can usually herd him a bit so he opens the doors after a couple tries. Not this time.

Likely has to do with the area being in permanent lockdown, but at some point he just stopped opening the doors. And not the usual "I'd rather fight this enemy with my zdps basic attacks" kind of stuck: he'd walk up to the door, say the voiceline and then just... stand there. Forever.

Having him open another door might have helped, but I had no other doors to open. Other than that, the contract was gone at that point: re-entering, relogging, etc. did nothing.

So yeah, stick with Nenet. Love being an alpha tester!
