[Feedback] Can we please search map tab by attributes other than map name? (EG Beyond, Occupied by Enslaver/Constrictor/Purifier/Eradicator, map contains layers of delirium, etc.)

    Posted: 05 Feb 2021 06:03 AM PST

So, this really bugs me but...it'd be great if we could search the map tab by things like attributes rolled on maps, if it has a certain elder guardian, etc.

Right now, I have to manually put my elder guardians in another tab manually just so I don't lose that boss. Will start doing that with Delirium too.

The Atlas skill trees have given the regions meaningful identities

    Posted: 05 Feb 2021 01:28 AM PST

As a casual player, I could never remember the names or the location of the eight regions in the Atlas. They were just completely meaningless. Placeholder names. Now, completely effortlessly, I know what and where Haewark Hamlet is, even specific maps belonging to the region, and I have an attachment to the region. I have a reason to care. There's more purpose to running maps now, and you don't have to run high-tier maps lest you feel like you're wasting your time. I think this has been an incredible improvement to the game.

Please add a static boss HP bar during boss fight

    Posted: 04 Feb 2021 10:06 PM PST

Obligatory, make it optionnal. But that would be nice to be able to see the overall progression of the fight without having to constantly over the boss. It's especially important on tough boss fight, since you are focused on the boss fight and sometime you can't hover on him to check what his current health is or if you did damage to him. For multiple boss, that bar could just be a reprentation of the overall boss fight (combine all the hp bar in one). It would also really add some weight to the boss fight, make you feel like you are actually fighting a dangerous enemy and not just a glorified mob.

Is Ritual giving LESS rewards in high tier maps?

    Posted: 05 Feb 2021 07:49 AM PST

I don't want to make claims that I'm not sure are accurate which is why I'm posting this as a question to the community. Hopefully via comments we can determine if there is indeed an issue. Here are the facts:

I've done what I estimate to be around 500 maps this league.

Two members of my guild who I've discussed this with as well have also done around the same.

Each of us have gotten between 5-10 raw exalted orbs from ritual.

For all three of us, ALL of our exalted orbs came from low tier maps (while we were lower level and progressing our atlas).

None of us have seen an exalted orb from Ritual in 200+ T14-16 maps (with mostly completed atlases and character level 95+).

This seems odd because during low tier maps, there was a point where I even had two exalted orbs deferred at the same time. They were fairly common at one point.

We are all heavily juicing our maps, using sextants, the new magic watchstones, scarabs, etc. I've even tried using the ritual vessels.

I've also gotten many of the higher tier rituals that are supposed to contain better rewards but it doesn't seem to.

This may be a small sample size but if we're not unlucky and this is happening to everyone then there is a serious issue. I think there is an issue with how they've coded ritual rewards and that we are getting way less high-quality rewards for high tier maps, high juice (quant) maps, or if you are a higher level than the zone (all of us are 95+ doing T14-16 which is over 10 levels below).

Or maybe its a combination of them all. Or maybe they stealth nerfed the drop rate of exalts from Ritual. Who knows, maybe we're really unlucky. Is anyone else noticing this issue?

    A Serious Problem with Harvest

    Posted: 05 Feb 2021 12:30 AM PST

So because I haven't seen anyone else bring this up on this subreddit, I suppose I'll be the one that does.

Haewark Hamlet and Lex Proxima Harvest passive nodes seem to have bugged for many people where the improved odds of running into Harvests no longer apply. And I don't mean that we haven't been seeing them due to a string of bad RNG, I mean that throughout hundreds of maps, days of playing, we run into them maybe twice, three times. Please, please, please bring this to light and hopefully the information in the thread can help people figure out what's wrong.

PSA: Don't throw away your unid corrupted maps

    Posted: 05 Feb 2021 06:41 AM PST

Do not throw your maps away just because they got not identified with the vaal orb, it doesn't get more rippy, when the map gets unidentified it keeps all the mods from before the corruption

I had to post this because i saw a streamer doing it and throwing the maps away in a gamerforlife video, if a streamer does that I imagine that many more people must be making this mistake and losing maps unnecessarily

It is time for an adjustable DC timer

    Posted: 05 Feb 2021 07:23 AM PST

According to this thread 6 years ago ("The amount of time you are left in game after disconnecting is frustratingly long."), the current DC timer is 6 seconds.

    What's the issue?

I'm not an expert either, but to my understanding, the server connection works as follows: Your game client and the server exchange data packets, while you play the game. When you decide to log out, your client sends packets with a DC request and goes to the char selection/login screen, once confirmed by the server.

So far, so good. But what happens, when you lose connection due to internet issues? Your client can't send any packets requesting a disconnection and it takes (at least) 6 seconds, before you are logged out of the server. Anyone, who has ever played the game, knows that 6 seconds of inaction spells death in most scenarios.

Aside from this, another common instance of the DC timer occurring, is after the use of a logout macro. Said macros send a disconnect request packet and close your clients' server connection immediately. However, when said packet doesn't arrive at the game servers (due to connectivity issues, also referred to as "packet loss"), the game server just notices that the client stopped responding, but doesn't shut down connection immediately, since it didn't get the DC request packet. What follows are 6 seconds of waiting time, before the client is logged out on the game server side.

What does this look like in practice?

There are plenty of clips like this around, but here's a small assortment, taken from poe-racing:

    1. https://clips.twitch.tv/HandsomeNastySalsifyShazBotstix - Lag starts at 00:07, player notices and uses logout macro at 00:09, tries to log in at 00:13 but only gets back into game at 00:19. Character dead.
    2. https://clips.twitch.tv/AssiduousZanyCasetteWholeWheat - Latency graph flatlining after 00:07, looks like he pressed alt+f4. Character dead.
    3. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V02LAZri6mQ - Lag starts 00:19, uses logout macro or automatic DC at 00:26, instantly logs back in. Character dead.
    4. https://clips.twitch.tv/FreezingBlightedWaspTakeNRG - Lag starts 00:02, gets bad at 00:05 so she uses logout macro. Can't log back in until 00:12. Character dead.

Why is this a problem? Why now? Why should GGG care?

It frustrates players. SC players lose 10% XP, which can hurt at high lvls and HC players lose their characters, to an issue often outside their control. Even if your connection is 99.9% stable, that 0.1% can and will eventually get you. Depending on how often that happens, said players might lose motivation to play and just quit. Hard to put a number on it, but i'm sure it does affect supporter pack sales to some degree, which is ultimately what GGG as a company cares about.

It produces bad streamer content. People watch streamers to see them take on challenging fights and possibly fail. RIP clips are popular, but only if the deaths are fair. Seeing people die to connection issues isn't fun, it's just depressing.

It's unfair in competitions. Especially in the recent years, there have been plenty racing events in HC leagues, often including big prize pools. These should be about who is the best player, and not who has the most stable internet (some stability is required though, obviously). Examples of streamers dying to packet loss in races, from a quick google search:

    1. https://clips.twitch.tv/AdventurousBelovedBurritoBrokeBack - He probably noticed the bear doesn't take dmg due to desync, used logout macro at 00:02. Can't log back in until 00:08 because of packet loss. Character dead. (Reddit thread: "Chip_Idiot dies Rank 1 in Kammel race to 6 second packet loss")
    2. Reddit thread: "Tytykiller RIP to packetloss while leading Atziri Race" - Sadly, the clip seems to be gone already, but i guess the title and comments say it all.

What's GGG's current stance on this?

Aside from that initial statement 6 years ago by Chris ("It's set to six seconds, because any longer will cause people to be kicked by regular internet lag spikes too much. We may make this user-configurable in the future."), I've also found Jonathan talking about it in an interview 4 years ago, claiming an adjustable DC-timer would lead to too many unwanted DCs for inexperienced users.

The most recent mention I discovered was 1.5 years ago in a developer Q&A post: "Are there any plans to change the six second disconnect timer duration?" - "Yes, but we haven't prioritised them."

    How could it be improved?

Simple answer: By allowing the players to adjust the DC timer. In my opinion, a range of 1 second to 12 seconds would be optimal, to allow for proper customization. Now, to avoid the issue of inexperienced players messing with the settings, which Jonathan talked about, one could take the following measures:

    • Hide the setting in the config files.
    • Show it ingame, but show a warning prompt when changing it.
    • Show a more detailed note at the login screen, when disconnected by the timer. Instead of just "an unexpected disconnection has occurred", it could spell something along the lines of "Disconnected by the DC timer after X seconds. If this occurs too often, consider increasing it in the option"

    Is it feasible?

I sadly can't remember when, but I'm fairly sure Chris mentioned in an interview that an adjustible DC timer wouldn't be hard to implement and it's mostly about not wanting people to set it too low and disconnect all the time.

    Short note on game crashes

This post is not about game crashing issues. While this is also a common occurrence, GGG can't do much about these, aside from fixing the bug. In addition, dying to these can often be circumvented by using a force logout/TCP disconnect macro. I highlight this, because it is a godsend on most league starts and I would recommend it for every player. Can save you, when the client shuts down/stops responding and your internet connection is stable. Won't save you if it isn't, which is where an adjustable DC timer comes into play.

    tl;dr

GGG should give players the option to adjust their disconnect timer.
